Argumentative Essay On Same Sex Marriage

Decent Essays

Those pushing for “same-sex marriage” assume that the change is for the greater good and we should all just get on board. What they fail to recognize is that gay marriage is not simply a matter of personal belief or a “yes” or “no” issue.
Recently, the debate over same-sex marriage has been one of the most divisive political issues in our nation. We belong to a remarkable generation, one where definitions are changing, prejudices are being broken, and homosexual relationships are slowly gaining acceptance in contemporary society.
Advocates of same-sex marriage believe that marriage is a private affair between two consenting adults where individuals should be granted equal rights, regardless of sexuality. The belief that marriage is just private love sealed by the state sounds like a sweet idea. Yet, as our leaders lean towards an agenda of political correctness to keep the minorities happy, we are losing touch with fundamental Christian values.
Whenever the Bible mentions marriage, it is clearly described as a union of a male and a female. The first mention of marriage, Genesis 2:24, describes it as a man leaving his parents and fulfilling God’s demand for procreation through a loving sexual relationship with his wife. In the New Testament, this viewpoint is further reinforced. Homosexual desires and actions are deemed to be unnatural and unrighteous. While the Bible does not explicitly mention “gay” marriage, however, it is clear that homosexuality is against God’s will.
