Several people think if smoking is legal and if the smokers are of age then they should be allowed to smoke. They also think It is not the job of the government to tell anyone what to decide to do with their life and not for them to command smokers to stop. They think that banning smoking in public would applaud people to smoke more in their houses, this will hurt other people in their house, especially their kids. It would also make bars, pubs and clubs go out of business. In an article by Joseph Bast called “Smoking Should Not Be Banned in Public Places”, Joseph Bast altercate that "people are free to do things both great and foolish so long as they do not conflict with an equal right held by others." This combines smoking. Considering scientific studies have not definitively found the danger of secondhand smoke, smoking bans should not be established in law, he says. There is documentation that less people are smoking, and he believes that each person should have the freedoms to do anything they want. Joseph Bast is president and CEO of the Heartland Institute, a nonprofit research and educational organization that promotes free market solutions to social and economic problems.
This is the article I am going to debate because I strongly disagree that smoking should be allowed in public places. My intended audience for my debate would be the government especially the one who makes the laws. The executive branch, when authorized by Congress, enacts Federal regulations they would be my direct direction and who I would contact.I am going to draw their attention by stating facts and information which is included below about why smoking is dangerous for smokers and for everyone around it and why it should be banned in public. In my opinion tobacco is one of the most commonly used drugs in the world, especially in the form of cigarettes. What is considered a drug? “A drug can have two distinct definitions; a “chemical substance, especially one prescribed by a medical provider that is used in the diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of a condition or disease. The second definition references the unlawful use of substances, “A chemical substance such as a narcotic or a hallucinogen that affects the central nervous
Smoking is an activity that has been around for many years for people to use and adapt into their lifestyle. It is a tool that many people use to help reduce the stresses of life and put them in a comfortable position that enables them to cope with the hectic lifestyle they are living. However, smoking has been scientifically proven to cause many types of cancer, the most common being lung cancer resulting in numerous deaths across the United States. According to BBC, "Smoking is a greater cause of death and disability than any single disease" (BBC, 2). Evidently, the benefits and drawbacks of smoking have been debated for many years, and only recently have some countries have placed a ban in public places such as Britain and the United
Smoking should be banned in Australia. Smoking is a disgusting habit that many Australians use every single day. The impact of banning smoking altogether in Australia would be a massive favour for everyone. Australian adults who smoke everyday and Australian Secondary Students from the age 12 to 17 smoke over 22 billion cigarettes per year and effecting other people to start smoking because they think it’s a cool way to get attention. But I think that banning it in almost all public places is a great idea but I raise this question to you, “Why not just Ban Smoking?” This question was raised in a ‘The Age’ article in 2013. The main point of the article is, smoking is banned in pretty much all public places and there are often neighbours writing to the council complaining about a smoking neighbour, so why not just ban it altogether?
In the U.S. almost all of the things harmful to humans are banned except for alcohol and smoking. In Sally Chen’s Smoking Is Bad For Everyone So It Should Be Illegal, Chen makes her case against smoking and other types of tobacco consumption. Chen states that Smoking and tobacco should be banned because “It’s an addictive drug that not only harms the user but everyone else through secondary smoke.”
People that smoke are the people that get all the unhealthy stuff in a body like cancer and many diseases that can be caused.“If smoking persists at the current rate among young adults in this country, 5.6 million of today’s Americans younger than 18 years of age are projected to die prematurely from a smoking-related illness. Another 100,000 were babies who died of sudden infant death syndrome (often referred to as SIDS) or complications from prematurity, low birth weight, or other conditions caused by parental smoking, particularly smoking by the mother. “Smoking has been around for a long time. The problem with smoking became worse when “production climbed markedly when another cigarette-making machine was developed in the 1880s by James Albert Bonsack, which vastly increased the productivity of cigarette companies, which went from making about 40,000 hand-rolled cigarettes daily to around 4 million.” Smoking is a problem around the world because it causes lung cancer, many other cancers, and some horrible diseases. This problem should be solved because “More than 10 times as many U.S. citizens have died prematurely from cigarette smoking than have died in all the wars fought by the United States during its history.”
When the medical associate researches the health ethnics of smoking they should have research tobacco is legal substance, people have a choice. The banning of smoking in public place only forces the people to smoke in the privacy of their homes even more. This will affect most eating and drinking establishments financially. The government will stand by these laws for banning smoking but do they stand by the taxes that are made for the selling of
Marijuana laws in the United States have long been too strict and unfairly harsh regardless of which side of the marijuana debate you are on. Marijuana is considered a schedule 1 narcotic by the DEA the same as heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamine, which seems to be a bit of an over exaggeration and the laws regarding marijuana far too stringent. Marijuana is effective as a medical treatment for a plethora of different medical conditions, even with the proven medical benefits some states still do not allow marijuana to be used as a medical treatment. With all the evidence that marijuana isn’t harmful recreationally should it be legalized for recreational use is the next question that comes about. A final argument would be that the resources being used to fight marijuana, including housing offenders could be going to more productive uses.
Because of her skin color she was moved back to a worse train car than the one she was already in. It states in paragraphs 12-14 that," I can't take your ticket here," he said." You'll have to move to the smoking car." This means that she was horribly discriminated against because of her skin
The use of tobacco has become a global problem. Tobacco poses serious health issues to both kids and adults. People in today's society believe that the government has no right to take smoking away from the public. I think of it in a completely different way. First of all smoking is very expensive. These expenses don't just get payed by the people; non smokers also pay for people to smoke indirectly. They pay for people to smoke via public assistance. Second of all, smoking is extremely bad for your health. Smoking results in many health complications. Finally, smoking does not just risk the life of a smoker. Smoking will also harm the people around you.
A health watchdog is to take legal action in California against the manufacturers of some of the best-known brands of e-cigarettes, following tests to establish the levels of toxic chemicals they contain.
Smoking is an expensive habit. People who smoke cigarettes can spend as much as $2,500 a year on them. Smokers’ claim that it helps relax them and it releases stress but the negative aspects of smoking outweigh the positive. Smoking is a health hazard for smokers and non-smokers. Smokers should have the right to choose what to do with their own health but they should respect non-smokers. Many people believe that there are good and bad outcomes from smoking. I believe that smoking is bad and that it should be banned.
Simply put the majority believes that the right to smoke cigarettes is not in the constitution and in that, it's not illegal to put more and more regulations on smoking. It is indisputable that tobacco use causes a litany of negative health effects and in that, the public should do more to help put more regulations on tobacco usage altogether. For one thing individuals can get involved by volunteering to work smoking prevention hotlines. This allows people to counsel others who are having a hard time giving up smoking, or keeping themselves from starting. On the other hand, individuals can attend addiction seminars. Through this they can meet other smokers, and attempt to help them deal with their issues in a healthy, helpful manner. In the same light, people and talk to their family members and friends who smoke, and try to help them deal with their problems so that they wouldn’t have to turn to smoking. Smoking is an epidemic that kills millions worldwide each year; it's up to each and every one of us to put an end to
Smoking laws in Queensland are extensive and most have been in effect since 1 July 2006. Smoking is not allowed in all enclosed public places . It is permitted in residential spaces, along with specific outdoor public spaces such as beaches, children's playgrounds , sport stadiums and at outdoor eating and drinking venues. It is also allowable within 4 metres of public (i.e. non-residential) building entrances. In 2010 it became illegal to smoke in a car when a child under the age of 16 is present. In 2011 Brisbane City Council banned smoking in the CBD shopping strip Queen Street Mall.
The effects of cigarette smoking can be horrifying. Smoking is dangerous not only to those who smoke, but to non-smokers and unborn children as well. Cigarette smoking is also physically and socially harming.
The government is trying to brainwash the public. For example, when you are at your local beach if you live on the coast or even at your local park, the harm to nonsmokers from your smoking of a cigarette just doesn’t exist. There are those who claim the local wildlife is being killed by ingesting the discarded cigarette butts but this is just not true, a cigarette butt is merely paper and cotton, which isn’t harmful to wildlife, as well as when you are smoking in public and God forbid a child may see you smoking and try to imitate you thinking that if an adult does it makes it cool. “But the claim is that the real reason behind smoking bans is to protect smokers from themselves by making the places in which you can smoke harder” says Ronald Bayer an investigator for the Public Broadcasting Station. As well as the fact that health officials use other arguments as to not appear patronizing. The fact of the matter is that public smoking bans are very effective in "denormalizing" smoking and increasing quit rates.
Although many claim the opposite smoking tobacco has been proved scientifically to be addictive. Addiction is when a person is physically and mentally dependent on a particular substance and is unable to stop taking it without incurring unpleasant effects. Once the body tastes nicotine the addictive chemical found in cigarettes it craves for more. Nicotine creates a pleasurable feeling that appeals to the smoker. However, since nicotine is the only addictive drug in tobacco if extracted from tobacco then tobacco won't be addictive.
