The Mind-Body Problem is the debate on how both the mind and the body interract with eachother, and how they are connected. The mind is all about mental processes, thought, and consciousness. The body is about the physical aspects of the brain and the brain’s neurons, and how the brain is structured. Many of the questions asked about this problem are along the lines of; is the mind apart of the body or is the body apart of the mind? In this essay I will be explaining the arguments, counterarguments, and responses this particular problem. Thinking (having a freedom of choice) is a mental event, and yet can cause physical behavior to occur (muscles to move in response to behavior), which would be the body. Both elements are very closely related, but yet are argued as to whether they are connected completely or not. Dualism maintains a vivid distinction between the focus of the mind and matter. On the other hand, monism explains that there is only one unifying reality, substance, or essence, which is basically saying that everything can be explained, which is not factual on any terms. Dualism states that the mind and body not identical due to the different processes that they both complete. The mind and body both do different tasks daily, and they do not complete the same tasks. Although, the body may need the mind to complete certain tasks, the mind does not need the body to think about things, as well as, process certain tasks. My theory of this problem is that the mind and body may be connected, but they are definitely not identical in any way. Just like how the mind and body aren’t identical in processing information, subject and object aren’t identical as well.
