The person made the biggest impact on Canadians in 2017 are Omar Khadr, he was fifteen when he allegedly killed Christopher Speer, who was part of the US army, other soldiers were injured from the grenade in Afghanistan. I think that this is important to know because he now lives in Red Deer in Alberta and is going to Red Deer college. Some people agree with the 10 million dollars because his charter of rights were ignored and so the government gave him the money as an apology but others disagree because he killed and injured Us soldiers. So a bit about his life is that he is born in Toronto, Canada on the ninth of September in 1986. He has two sisters and four brothers. His father so-called brainwashed him in a way. His father had connections
On June 12, 2016 a 29 year old man named Omar Mateen walked into Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida and killed 50 people and wounded 53 people. Omar Mateen was a security guard wanting a future in law enforcement. Pulse is a popular gay nightclub and Mateen entered the nightclub around 2 a.m. with both a handgun and a rifle. He began shooting anyone and everyone in the dark and loud nightclub while people ran to hide and protect themselves from getting shot. Some people used bodies around them to cover themselves and others crawled out the air vent when it was removed. Many people were falling to the ground and Mateen would make sure people were dead by shooting them several times. Mateen was in the restroom around 5 a.m. when he had a three hour stand off with the police until police finally crashed into the night club and shot him dead. In the past Omar Mateen was seen drinking in the nightclub many times over the past three years. The guns that Omar Mateen were legal and purchased. 39 people were pronounced dead inside the nightclub and two were pronounced dead in the parking lot. Later 11 people that were taken to the hospital were pronounced dead. This became the worst massacre shooting to occur in the United States. This called a hate crime because he targeted the LGBQT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Queer and Transgender) community and his family told the police that he has become angry about two men kissing in Miami. The police has records of Mateen calling 911 saying
I am writing an essay about someone special who impacted Canadian citizenship in 2017 in either a good or a bad way. That special person I chose is Justin Trudeau and his team. Justin Trudeau was elected to be the president in 2015 and still is. There were a lot of good things he and his helpers did in 2017 therefore, here are my three that I have picked.
Osama Bin Laden was the most wanted terrorist in the world last saw the barrel of a United States Navy Seal. The master mind was an al-Qaida leader known for some of the greatest attacks of terrorism in the world. This wasn't your average person, Osama was smart. He never had contact with the outside world, he casted threats though unknown, unanimous, untraceable, devices. The United States tracked him for years, he ended up being know for the greatest attacks of terrorism in the world.
The 9/11 terrorist attack made a definite impact on Canada. It transformed into a more
The Soviets invaded Afghanistan, in 1979. Osama, believed he should join Afghan in his duties as a Muslim to fight the occupation. He moved to Peshawar, Afghanistan. Osama used aid from the United State under CIA Program, operation cyclone. After the Soviets left their country in 1989, Osama went back to Saudi Arabia. He returned as a hero, the United States referred to him as a “Freedom Fighter.” Osama was disappointed with what he thought was a corrupt Saudi government. His frustration with the United State occupation, Saudi Arabia, during the war of Persian Gulf. Osama spoke against Saudi government, reliance of American troops.
Fourteen years ago, on September 11th 2001, the future for the entire country was impacted and changed. The United States wasn’t engaged in any wars, few of us had ever heard of Osama bin Laden, and we deported half the number of people we do today. But maybe hardest to believe, you didn’t have to take your shoes off at the airport.
To some, he is the most hated and most hateful man in the world, and at one point was the most wanted criminal on the face of the planet. Osama bin Laden, in 1988, founded an Islamist network called al-Qaeda; the foundation built from his faith in God. This network would soon become a feared terrorist group from different countries across the globe. Bin Laden built his network with intentions of harming others that did not share his beliefs. Among his methods were: armed terrorism, suicide bombings, and alleged financial manipulation as the world has seen through attacks throughout history. The fear of al-Qaeda’s ability to use chemical terrorism was prominent with the rise of Islamic extremism. Al-Qaeda, throughout time, combines
During the 1990s, Osama bin Laden, a fundamentalist militant and leader of Al-Qaeda, issued several fatwas (legal edicts) opposed to the stationing of US troops in Saudi Arabia. By middle of 1996, Al-Qaeda was barely functioning as a terrorist organization, and had only thirty members. Facing irrelevance and anxious that he was losing his leadership role over Islamist militants worldwide, bin Laden, announced a "blessed jihad" to oppose the United States and its Western allies on August 23, 1996 (Bruce, et al., 2005). As part of this jihad, bin Laden declared war on the United States, which he intended to recruit new members for Al- Qaeda. This effort failed.
May 2nd, 2011. I was in the 8th grade. The school, the nation , and the world had essentially learned about the death of Osama Bin Laden the night before. As I went to my classes I could tell that a feeling of happiness and joy filled the air. I could not remember much about that day up until the last period of the school day.
It’s important to recognize those who make an impact on their world. Mohammed Mossadegh is one of those people, as he represents 1951 “Person of the Year”. Mossadegh was born on May 19, 1882 in Iran, a place known for their trading routes and oil supply. The people of Iran take pride from where they come from, while appreciating their Zoroastrian religion as Kinzer says, “the Zoroastrian religion taught Iranians that citizens have an inalienable right to enlightened leadership” (Kinzer 20). Being only eight years old when Iran’s government started to fumble, Mossadegh was able to grasp onto politics at a young age (Kinzer 54). As Prime Minister of Iran under the Pahlavi dynasty, Mossadegh’s decision to Nationalize the most profitable British business in the world, the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company, caused foreign conflict as it did political chaos (Kinzer 53). Mossadegh’s decision was based off of his experiences he had, during his reign as Prime Minister, and the great passion he had for his country (Kinzer 123).
The United States is at risk of new terrorist organization. Resent attacks on parise shows the reach of this new terror group Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. Al Qaeda has evolved into something more serious ISIS. The United States has a moral responsibility to protect itself and others from the threat ISIS poses and the rules that ISIS inforce. The people of the world have the right to practice their religion in their own way and not live in fear of groups like ISIS.
"ISIS is taking over a lot of the oil and certain areas of Iraq. And I said you take away their wealth, that you go and knock the hell out of the oil, take back the oil. We take over the oil, which we should have done in the first place" (Meet the Press, 2015). In this quote, President Donald Trump comments about the invasion of the United States (US) in Iraq in 2003 during an interview Meet the Press facilitated by Chuck Todd in 2015. Trump emphasizes that proceeding the conclusion of invasion of Iraq in 2011, the United States of America should have kept ownership of the oil to prevent terrorist groups like that Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) from gaining control. Though the 2003 Iraq War was thought to be in retaliation to
The war in Afghanistan has done no favor for stability in the region. You spoke on several options for all leaders involved. The best choice is training the Afghan National Security Forces on current United States tactics on combating the local enemy. It is safe to assume that the United States will be leaving the region in the short term but what happens after that is crucial for the stability of Afghanistan. A historically brutal country becoming stable would have outward reaching impact on the entire Central Asia region. The government has to have the forces in place to defeat their own enemy. At the same time, the United States and partner nation must create an
What comes to mind when you hear “The War on Terror”? For someone like myself I immediately go back to my tenth grade English class the morning of September 11, 2001 and the devastating effects of terrorism and what we as a country need to/ should do to keep ourselves safe. Sometimes you need to detain a large quantity of suspects to find the few terrors amongst the many innocent, Habeas Corpus is made to help protect and weed out the innocent and when that right is violated in hopes of find the bad within the good it is no longer an acceptable way to fight terrorism. Several case have come to the Supreme courts and no one can clearly answer to what extent the war on terror justifies the President's unspecified time limit on enemy combatants
September 11, 2001, is a moment frozen in time. It was on this day that the world seemed to stop turning, and its course would never be the same again. It was the day of the largest organized attack on American citizens that took the lives of 2,976 innocent everyday people (attention grabber). It not only destroyed buildings, it destroyed lives. Not only the innocent lives of the thousands murdered in the burning buildings were destroyed, but the lives of their families were destroyed, and their hearts became filled with hurt and loss. As a result of this unthinkable attack on our country, the lives of thousands of American Soldiers and their families would soon be affected as well
