Arguments Against Veteran Homelessness

The life of a veteran names Bryan turned for the worst after his mother passed away about 5 years ago. Before her death he was involved in the community and was an all-around good guy. After her death he lost his involvement in the community, his mental stability was slowing getting worse and he ended up in a coma from trying to end his own life. After 3 months in the hospital they discharged him, promising they would find a place for him to go. “They said will sort it out for you, but nothing got done” (Brians Story). This leads to our problem of veterans being left on the street, sick mentally and physically after risking their lives for years to save ours.

Problem: Veteran men and women of all ages have fought for our freedom, and gave us a place we can call home yet each night majority of them do not have a place to go or to call a home. “While 8% of Americans can claim veteran status, 17% of our homeless population is made up of veterans” (Veteran Homelessness). Each night they must worry about where they are going to sleep, what they are going to eat, and if they have the proper clothing for any weather that could come there way. It would benefit the veterans by giving them shelter or a place to go when needed. It would provide them with a meal, and a type of “family” to eat with on holidays or other occasions. As well as give them the proper clothing for any weather conditions they might have to live through. The help from us could also help their mental stability and benefit everyday people from having to worry about what the “crazy” homeless veteran is going to do. As a community we could feel better about ourselves knowing we did the right thing and helped someone who did everything they could to help
