In this essay I will describe the many requirements and expectations set forth in the army's AR670-1. I will describe the importance of obedience to it and cite many of it's detailed descriptions. I am writing this essay because I failed to meet the standards asked of me me by both these regulations, and my leadership. I accept the responsibility of my actions and will not let my failure recur, nor will I let my fellow soldiers repeat my mistake. Since my failure was in regards to grooming or personal additions to uniform, I thought it would be pertinent to cover these subjects most thoroughly, If any additional information is required of me I will add on to this.

The Army’s new Occupational Physical Assessment Test has been the answer. The test by design is not to access if the applicant possess the fitness level to step directly into the job, but rather to gauge their ability to improve with training to meet that jobs physical demands. Professionalism is very essential to any profession to include the military. I would not use situational ethics to resolve the problem with the general in regards to the typo in the performance report because I do not think that it needs to be apply to this situation. However, I will apply the Army values in resolving the problem that is at hand. I will apply duty to this situation because I would be true faith to another soldier, so I would support my leader by making the necessary correction and addressing them with it, this would show my support to my unit. The general may have look over the mistake but that is where duty would play a part because the Army is one team one fight. Seen that Lt. Colonel saw the mistake he should address it because looking out for his promotion should be a reason he allow one

Moral and ethical qualities comprise an officer’s character and help determine how to make proper and ethical decisions. “An informed ethical conscience consistent with army values strengthens leaders to make the right choices when faced with tough issues.”11 Character is indispensable for successful leadership. Army officers must embody the army values and encourage others up and down the chain to do the same.

While on deployment, individuals in the military will be challenged with both moral and ethical decisions. The results of these decisions can come with unforeseeable repercussions which may greatly affect the mental state of a soldier. “Ethics are standards by which one should act based on values (JSOU, 2016).” As members of the SOF community, we must be culturally perceptive and ethically proficient. In the next few paragraphs, we will discuss and evaluate ways to mitigate and resolve ethical issues that may present itself to an individual on the battlefield.

The size of the military reaches astonishing numbers and due to this many ethical dilemmas take place. Moral and legal issues occur throughout whether it be on the field or on base and addressing those cases calls for just and fair trial. Numerous factors must be accounted for such as where it occurred, historical basis to back judgments, the authority of the individual as well as the individual themselves in the sense of their beliefs and the decisions they made. Including all these factors lead to an answer for this ethical dilemma: To what extent does the military punish a soldier for disobeying morally wrong orders given to them?

The ethical problem is roots in the culture, so solve this problem is inevitable. While the alcohol consumption is part of our social life, the soldiers cannot avoid it. First recommendation is the maintaining the chain of command. The commander should assign the chain of command if alcohol related event occurs in order to maintain the continuous leadership in the unit. He or she should give the temporary authority to the next leader in the chain while the alcohol’s effect disappears from the commander’s body. This measurement could prevent lot of previously mentioned negative effect, such as decision-making and using authority while intoxicated or mind- altering state. The next recommendation is important in the lead by example perspective.
