Biography Arnold Schwarzenegger was born in Thal, Austria in 1947 in a strict Roman Catholic family. Schwarzenegger received beatings from his father on a regular basis, was miserable most of his childhood. Since the early age of 10, Schwarzenegger had dreamed of moving to America, or as he saw it “the land of opportunity”. Schwarzenegger had discovered that bodybuilding could help him move to the US. Schwarzenegger is one of the best sources of inspiration for immigrants everywhere. He moved to a foreign country all by himself, and not only survived, but also thrived, and became one of the most prominent figures of the 1990’s and early 2000’s.
What Did He Do? Schwarzenegger started off his career as a body builder and Olympic style weight lifter. After a couple of years pursuing these two professions, it was evident the Schwarzenegger was better suited for body building, and decided to focus on winning Mr. Olympia (an international bodybuilding tournament). Being the youngest competitor to ever win Mr. Olympia, and winning six consecutive titles was not enough to satisfy Schwarzenegger desire for success, so Schwarzenegger decided to pursue a career in film. Arnold Schwarzenegger was able to become a body building phenomenon, one of the biggest action movie stars, and a prominent political figure; and he was able to accomplish all these goals as an immigrant. When first stepping foot on US soil, Schwarzenegger had very minimal English, and almost no understanding of the American culture, and despite this Schwarzenegger was able to achieve his childhood dream. Having personally experienced the immigrant experience, and seeing its effects on my parents has caused me to have tremendous admiration and respect for this great man, and all the great feats that he has
