On today I observed Mrs. Dillon’s 6th period art class. The room was filled with students’ artwork, both from the past semesters and the current semester. Among the artwork were mosaics, murals, cement masks, and art guides — color wheel. It was a combination of 9th, 10th, and 11th graders, both male and female. There were 23 students present and they sat in groups around tables consisting of two boys and two girls and one table filled with all boys. The teacher was absent on today, but the students behaved just as if she were there. When they entered the classroom, the grabbed their journals and headed to their assigned seats. Usually there would be a journal displayed on the board, but since the teacher was absent, today there wasn’t. Their

1. The only change in the classroom was all of the children special notes from their parents, "My child is Special because" The teacher posted them on all them were posted on the door.
Art is the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination. Most schools have art classes all the way from kindergarten up to high school. Some of the arts that are offered at most schools are basic art classes, like visual arts, 3D art, musical arts, etc. While some other schools provide more advanced art classes like, the dramatic arts, design, photography, etc. Recently, there has been some controversy whether the education of arts is necessary in schools.
The purpose of this essay is to fully employ all of the new observational skills that I have learned from the start of the semester to now. With that in mind, I was feeling very excited to use these new “abilities” as I was observing art. The San Diego Museum of Art was very interesting indeed, and I have never experienced art in such a way that is sort of hard to describe. The museum had paintings and galleries ranging from the Renaissance era all the way to the eighteenth century and even Impressionism and Post-Impressionism as well. However, my eyes instantly caught Henri Matisse’s painting, Bouquet, this painting had so many details, elements, and meanings as well as similar characteristics from past chapters that I have read this semester.
Prior to my observation, I was eager to have an opportunity to observe a class for an entire school day. While I certainly have a background working in school settings, I have never been able to focus on understanding and evaluating the different aspects of the school day. For my observation, I was placed in an inclusive fourth grade class. Two co-teachers ran the class of eighteen students.
During the observation of Morning Meeting, I noticed that my mentor teacher separated the children by gender when the calendar helper counted the number of boys and the girls in the classroom. My mentor teacher asked the calendar helper to have either the boys or girls stand up first to be counted. When the children are getting ready to go outside or to the bathroom, the teacher has also the boys and girls in separate lines. I felt that there were other characteristics for the teacher to separate the children. For example, she could she could have asked the children stand up or line up based on their eye color, hair color, the color of their clothing, their favorite animal, or even the first letter of their name. unyard is educated in a Special Class placement. Junyard was observed during a Math lesson that included whole class instruction and individual seatwork. He mainstreamed into the general education classroom.
At the end of the lesson Students are going to be able to describe where they live using the verb "vivir" and "tener" in Spanish. During unit two, they been using the these verbs and in the beginning of the lesson they answer the "Do NOw" activity where I asked then: ?Donde tu vives? They answer the question in Spanish and used the verb in the correct tense. After that, they answer a listening question where they had to identify the part of the house using the vocabulary proposed at the beginning of the lesson. Finally, they started a project where they had to create a Floor plan and describe their ideal house. For this activity, they have to use the verb "tener" in present tense. The completion of these activities ensures the acquisition of the new vocabulary and the verbs tense. It is important to mention, that this lesson will continue next week because students need more time to complete their DOL activity.

It was 1:00 pm when I arrived at Wanamaker Elementary School. Patiently I waited outside the door. When I was finally let inside the classroom, I was welcomed by a mixture of bright smiles and blank stares. Mrs. Stark then introduced me to the class of twenty third graders. After she introduced me to the whole class, I quietly made my way to the back of the room. As I looked around the classroom, I saw twenty occupied desks. Mrs. Stark decorated her classroom with many motivational posters and some of the student’s artwork. During my observation of the classroom, I was able to see how the teacher interacted with the students, how gender roles were apparent between students, and lastly see the how the students interacted with each other.
This lesson was from the Math Investigation books that are provided to the teachers every year. This was the start of a new unit, which was unit five. I was a little nervous to start off the unit considering this would be how the students view the rest of the unit. I had some trouble reading about the lesson when I first saw it. I got a little confused and thought about why the cube train was involved. I ended up looking ahead and seeing how it fit in to other units and it made a lot of sense.
Another student that I observed was always doing something that he wasn’t supposed to be doing. On the first day of my observations, the boy walked into the classroom late, without a backpack, and completely disrupted the class from doing their work. While observing the boy, I noticed that he had not picked up his pencil once to do his classwork, and when he was told to do his work, he would yell at the teachers and interrupt the students. To distract the boy from distracting other students, the teachers allowed him to color pictures and do other activities. When the science teacher came into the class to teach them a lesson, the boy kept distracting the class and kept getting up and walking around the classroom. He then started to draw on
In my previous post about what I thought art was, included multiple different ideas of creative expression. My original post was very limited on basic knowledge of art, and I was not including in depth explanations of art. I mentioned that art could be found in paintings, drawings, sculptures, literature, music, etc. I never thought to state how many different types of paintings there are, or even the multitude of different types of literature and music. This class taught me the art is not just something that pleases the eye, imagination, or ear. Art has meaning. I learned a lot my first couple of weeks of this class, and a lot of that came from the lecture, as well as the artists of the week videos. My favorite artist of the
Conducting classroom observations are very important to the prospective teacher. Observing helps show how experienced teachers manage their classroom. For this observation it was important to notice how the classroom was arranged, how the teacher interacted with the students, the teacher’s management style, and interview the teacher.
At the beginning of this semester, I was not really sure what to expect. Going into this class, I wondered what the course would entail, and how well I would do because I have never been someone who has viewed themselves as being good at art. In saying this, however, throughout the course of this semester, I feel that I have truly grown; I have grown personally, as well as an educator, and for that I am grateful. I have really worked hard this semester and I have really tried to be openminded; openminded to new ideas, allowing myself to be vulnerable, and to try new things myself, and I feel that I have been able to do just that.
