In this class art has taught me many things that I didn’t know before or that they were associated with art particularly. This has gave me the opportunity to appreciate art and what it gives us the chances to do with it. Art also has changed my views on many things. To be specific, according to what I have learned in this class, it has changed my view on the role art has in reflecting social, economic, and humanistic issues. Also, I have learned many new artists that had works that were particularly meaningful in expanding my view of the world. All in all, art has many things to it to learn and appreciate from and to give you the chance to learn something that is creative and beautiful that you didn’t know about before. I have learned many …show more content…
First of all, the thing that changed my view on the role art has in reflecting social issues is that, at first when I knew about art, I didn’t know that there was actually people fighting for their rights on art and which then caused a social issue with whether, for example, letting women have rights about their opinions on art and posting them on display in museums for other people to see. I thought art was just a simple hobby for people who like to do it for fun and show other people around the world their talents in the world of art. But little did I know, it was a big deal for some people and some people had to fight for their rights in order to do what they love sufficiently. Next, the thing that changed my view on the role art has in reflecting economic issues is that, people try their very best to solve problems in the art world, no matter how big or small the problem is. They have invented so many things such as photography and things to capture motion and speed such as films, to make the art experience more successful. They would have problems such as “How can I do this?” or “What if?” and create …show more content…
For example, the Tempietto which is the Church of S. Pietro in Montorio by Donato Bramante is one. The building is based on ancient round monuments, some of which commemorated dead Roman emperors. Without this, I would not have known about this amazing church in Rome. It’s expanding my view by giving me the opportunity to discover buildings that I haven’t known about and maybe would never get to see in person. Another example is, the Hagia Sophia which is in Istanbul, Turkey. It is one of the most magnificent domes in the world was designed for the Byzantine cathedral of Hagia Sophia “Holy Wisdom” in Istanbul. It was built in the sixteenth century as the central sanctuary of the Eastern Orthodox Christian Church. After the Islamic conquest of 1453, minarets were added and it was used as a mosque. This was one of the most amazing mosques I have ever seen. To know that one day maybe I could go over there and pray is just absolutely amazing. The interior of the mosque is very beautiful and spiritual. It has arabic writings on the domes which have the name of God “Allah” and his prophet Muhammed(pbuh). This has changed my view on the art word because to know that your roots could have built this with the remembrance of God and for you to pray in is just simply amazing and emotional. And that I know for a fact that I would wanna go there
The article “Book Tackles Old Debate: Role of Art in Schools” by Robin Pogrebin explains the influence of art and the conclusion of two researchers, Ellen Winner and Lois Hetland. “Students who study the arts seriously are taught to see better, to envision, to persist, to be playful and learn from mistakes, to make critical judgements and justify such judgements,” conclude both researchers.
Art helped me learn to express the feelings I couldn’t say and during that time period and I choosing to study it is the greatest decision I have ever made. Art is the reason I live now. It gives me hope, happiness, and an ability to escape. I love how it can change my view and to make me feel things. This year one of my illustrations was hung in the Museum of Contemporary Art: La Jolla, and I could not be prouder.
The thought of art is more than what you see it is what you feel and what you learn from looking at it. Art can heal the soul and create and new outlook on images we may see every day. Sadly, we may not always see the art in things, pieces, or, humans.
By educating students any form of art, can open up new connections to imaginative thinking. The arts could even lead students to find new ways of studying that could benefit their other classes. Arts helps in finding different ways into processing ideas, not just analyzing an idea, but also taking into consideration of the more human side to things: emotion. With a student being more emotionally prepared to take on any task, it helps a student judge what is best for themselves in their routine of study. In “Necessary Edges” Yo-Yo Ma says how “we are also aware that wise and balanced judgment results from integrating the critical and empathetic, taking emotions as well as reason into account” (258). If the education system incorporates arts into the system then students could find means as to help relax from higher levels of thinking, as a means to release stress and to positively believe that they are striving to be their best. Wood supports the idea of incorporating art into education because with the incorporation of more technology placed into classes then it becomes “exhausting: a continuous period of forced engagement, with no relief in the form of time when my attention could flag or I could doodle in a notebook undetected
I was fortuned to have had parents who had a respect for all kinds of art and approached life with an open mind. Thus being furthered blessed to grow up near a metropolis which possesses a major art museum and galleries showcasing new talent, filling young eyes with wonderment. An art appreciation study early own in life would have been beneficial but alas, I burn with shame as one who falls in the class of “I know what I like” when asked about art. I am all agog for semester’s end to be better equipped to articulate on why I am moved by a particular piece. After listening to the first week lecture and reading the first two chapters of the course text, it was difficult to narrow the subject of my essay to one subject. But, Chapter Ones quotes
In the contemplation of art, or rather the conceptually intangible definition it currently possess, it is imperative to be mindful that “art” has been utilized as a promotional device, ceremonial item, aesthetically purposed article or perhaps none of these or all. It is because of this vague term that Carolyn Dean, in her text, “The Trouble with (The Term) Art”, makes a case for the consequences of applying the term “art” in societies that lacked such a notion which also accounts for the Western-centric lens the field intrinsically utilizes when viewing non-Western art. The claim is deftly supported by the utilization of expert accounts in the subject, alternative perspectives for what is considered the current norm, and self-examining questions,
1. Do we create a hierarchy within archaeology of the tools/human fossils over the unknown objects/art objects by placing more importance on the sciences than the arts, i.e. we readily fund certain projects of a scientific nature (i.e. proving the missing link) vs projects of a purely aesthetic nature (restoration of pre-Columbian burial wrapping weavings)? What motivates this hierarchy, if a hierarchy exists?
Kehinde Wiley is a New York based artist whose paintings focus on the themes of empowering black men and combining classical and contemporary styles.
The shift from Realism to Impressionism in the 19th century represented not only a change in form, but it also represented a shift in ideology. As one of our module videos notes, rather than focusing on accuracy and clarity, Impressionism emphasized “what the mind and the eye sees” and the “impression of light and color.” We will briefly discuss how the differences in the approaches of the Realists and the Impressionists had interesting implications for arts and how these ideologies can be applied to the ways in which believers and unbelievers interpret art.
It can teach patience and determination. Having something tangible to see what they are capable of helps students with self-esteem. It allows them to develop confidence instead of just being told that they need to have it. Art is not just a grade but rather something that students created and something that they can take pride in because there is no one else out there that can make what they did. Art allows students to become engaged in what they are doing because the outcome is not some number on an arbitrary scale. It is something real that ecourages students to want to solve the problems that they encounter. It lets them experiment without fear of failure because there is always another
However the protests in the world today can also influence other things such as politics, companies, and mostly anything that can provoke people to be against. However, I believe that art has a big influence on my opinion of the world today. I believe that even if almost all of the art is a depiction of the world today, I believe that these are mostly by the view of the European culture. This is because, in our history, many of the Europeans countries were the people who helped found and influenced the countries to be what they are today, and the art that we create are also formatted by the ideas of the Europeans, such as the British, French, Italians, and many other European countries. Also with the violence in our world today, I believe that changed the art direction as well, as art used to be peaceful scenery of everyday life, to a gruesome type of pictures of war and blood. People like Erik Erikson, Cindy Sherman, Kehinde Wiley, Phillip Akkerman, Kerry James Marshall, Yoko Ono, Kara Walker, Keith Haring, and Ai Weiwei all showed many different types of formation of art and what they do, and they showed how the art world have changed throughout the years that their art was
Art was one of my favorite classes, but I wasn't a fan of algebra class. There are many differences and similarities between art class and algebra class. I love taking a bit of nothing and turning it into a work of art that I can be proud of. One of the main reasons I disliked algebra class was how much homework we had.
Art is a catalyst of change. It can confront both social and political issues as well as providing people with a creative outlet in which they can express their innermost thoughts and feelings - but what effect can art have on our society as a whole? Artists today have the unique ability to connect with people in a creative, innovative way that they can understand and interpret themselves. With this ability, artists are able to express their own views as well as influencing the views of others. Art is an immense part of our world – so much so that we barely even consider its impact upon us – but just how significant is the work of artists in our modern day society?
When I first arrived at Boston College, I learned and heard through my peers that taking an art class was something everyone did Junior or Senior year in order to fulfill the core. I had inferred that an art class was something “easier” than other classes that provided more traditional classroom academics. However, I found this to be strange as I never believed that an art class was easy; in fact I believe that an art class can be much more difficult than a class like English, Math, or History. With classes such as those, there are guidelines, structures, and rules you must follow in a strict way in order to do well. In Art however, these guidelines, rules, and structures are much more transparent and open to interpretation. In highschool,
Art is personal; an expression of inner thoughts and desires, affecting the way I not only see the world but myself. In order for a person to grow they must know who they are, their aspirations, the true nature of their thoughts, and their actuality of their persona; the physicality of art has given me this knowledge. With practicing in the arts I am able to grow as a person and I am able to see that growth within me. For with the expression of creativity, comes an outlet, an outlet of the unconscious, forming and showing the reality of the mind. This outlet releases internal emotions and helps me to find tranquility within myself. This state of mind is a supplement for my own personal problems. Also, I am able to create new ideas, ones that help me see the world in a new light. I am able to form a relaxing and mesmerizing state of mind, one that leaves me fascinated with the world around me, along with a deep love for simplicity. Visual arts have truly given me an insight on my own mind and happiness in my life. This is why I full-heartedly believe and practice in the arts, to find peace of mind, not in the world, but in myself.
