What is art? How do you define it? Is it something that you see only in a museum or does it also appear on your refrigerator door at home? Does art have to be brilliant or can it just leave you pondering its very existence for years to come?
These are all questions that I have had many years to linger on. Art in my world began when I was very young. I was blessed to be born into a family who was anything but normal, they were creative! Thankfully, it didn’t stop there, I have been able to utilize my creativity ever since. I would have never known that my family or my educators in my adolescent years would play such a role in how I would view the world for the rest of my life. As quoted in the reading, What is Creativity? on page 4, “[m]any young children who have lived their first years in supportive environments naturally exhibit the characteristics of creative individuals”. Nevertheless, I did not realize it would be up to the adults in my life to keep that alive in me!

Giles had once cultivated. My favorite memory of art education through these teachers in high school was how each year they would take their Art II students and higher to Chicago. Here we would go to the National Art Institute and the Museum of Contemporary Art. I was able to submerge myself with unusual, yet famous works of Art. My favorite work to see was American Gothic, such a popular piece of work that I got to see myself! The outcome of this yet again began to reshape, remodel, and repolish who I would grow into as an adult. I believe these teachers took us on these trips to allow us to see art in the real world.
