What is the difference between moral thinking and moral acting? Moral thinking can be defined as considering doing an action but not executing it. Moral acting is having a thought or idea and executing it. For the most part, people often consider morality, where they think they must do something that is suitably correct but never actually implement their thoughts into actions. In Louise C.K. quote, Louise demonstrates the inner struggle of having moral thoughts but not being able to fulfill the intensions. Louise is conflicted on whether he should give up his seat for a soldier. Louise spends a long time thinking about what he should do and even feels pleased with himself for considering giving up his seat. In the end, Louise does not give …show more content…
Is Louise a good person just for thinking that he can do good? It is hard to classify whether a person is good or not, especially when their intensions are positive. In my opinion, I believe that everyone is born as a moral and just person. Consequently, I consider that outside sources and the environment of a person affect the goodness of that specific person. Therefore, it is hard to gauge and say that a person is “good” because most people are caring and justified. So what makes a good moral person? In my opinion, if I person has empathy towards others and shows compassion and reliability I believe that classifies the person as “good”. People who are “good” take initiative and learn and grow from others. It is important to realize, that to express goodness and morality, there must be action. Anyone can show and express sympathy but people lack empathy. Sympathy is feeling bad for someone, while empathy is understanding what the person is going through. It is extremely challenging to understand another person from their perspective, this is the reason there is so much conflict. Consequently, people cannot always be “good”. It is difficult to always be selfless and care for others and show empathy and compassion. Therefore, for me there is no such thing a perfect and ideal good …show more content…
For the most part, I think we must be open-minded and recognize different outlooks yet still be committed to our own personal morals. In the text, Thinking Critically About Ethical Issues, Ruggiero emphasizes the importance of respect. Ruggiero quotes Errol E. Harris, “every person should be regarded as worth of sympathetic consideration”(Ruggiero 78). To be a righteous and even successful person, understanding respect is critical. Ruggiero adds on by stating, “we should desire only what is really good for ourselves, so should we desire the same thing for other people because they are essentially no different from us” (Ruggiero 79). Ruggiero statement is very powerful, because it causes us to think selflessly and empathetically. I agree with Ruggiero’s idea, if we care for each other and show respect toward each other there will be a development in equality and consideration. Subsequently, it is imperative to stay genuine to your own beliefs and ideas, but being able to collaborate or even recognize someone else thoughts makes an enormous
Growing up, I have always been taught to abide by the rules, study zealously and diligently, and to be a virtuous person; the same cookie-cutter rules most children are taught. Despite them being completely clichéd, I keep these three basic principles ingrained in my mind, adding more to the list as I went. During my many years of schooling at Fairmont, I encountered many personalities, groups, and individuals all with their own beliefs and even some who didn't have an opinion. Now, as I am getting older, I find myself no longer shielded from some
From job-related experiences, when I am placed into situations with individuals who have different ethics from me, I cautiously take steps to determine ethical dilemmas choices without violating the rights or opinions of all involved. In addition, the experiences working with teams at work, have taught me to carefully view the opinions of others before entering into open disagreement over a given course of action. I strongly believe, apart from the ethical position,. an individual has his or her individual right to express their opinion. The results of my EAI, combined with my experiences throughout school and work, have educated me that all ethical decisions require cautious thought. I firmly believe, in order to achieve the best results, one needs to take numerous factors including but limited to culture, into consideration while also allowing for future implications of any action dictated by ethical decisions I make.
From being independent thinkers to knowing what is right from wrong in our society, however, things are not always as black and white as they seem. Although we might know what is right within our society, our right might be wrong in other societies. We have a democratic society, but others don’t have that luxury. Even though North Korea may be a communist country, South Korea is a democratic country, but they have their own point of view on things, as well do other democratic countries. It is the norm in South Korea and in many other countries to follow the social hierarchy, but when we look at our society, although we always state to respect our elders, we expect respect from everyone whether they’re older or younger. By being exposed to the new culture norms, it would benefit me in understanding how others see
Libertarians support the view that people have free will and so we are free to make moral decisions. For a Libertarian, the key evidence for this is the act of decision making in our daily lives. Hume states that “experience is what we see to be true”, each human being experiences the feeling of being free to make a decision. If experiencing any other action constitutes it to be true, then why not the same for free will? Libertarians argue that we have awareness of the choices we make; we can choose to do anything that we are capable of. Though we are influenced by our environment and experiences, ultimately we can make our own decisions, nothing is
This is a study about one’s ethical and moral behavior and Christian World View as related to personal and professional growth and development. This study examines my personal views of moral behavior and Christian World View as it relates to my expectation of what a manager in a leadership position should posses and why. Growing up in a African-American Baptist church and ultimately landing in a diverse Christian Church has shaped my life and viewpoint when it comes to values and beliefs. There are 5 characteristics that I believe a Manager should possess: Authenticity, transparency, empowering, trustworthy and competence. These five characteristics help to build rapport and trust in a manager, which are good qualities to possess when leading a team.
The theory that I find true to the true nature of moral responsibility and its relation to human freedom and determinism would be compatibilism. Compatibilism is the claim that we are both determined and that we have moral responsibility (Lawhead 120).
Everyone is capable of being good. But the question you should be asking is if that’s their desire. People are capable of anything. They can also be very tempted by their bad side or their risk-taking side, which can be brought out by others. Some people have a lower tolerance for temptation which makes it easier for them to do what other people say. Such people are also known as followers. They can be tempted by bad things while trying to do the right thing. Each person’s personality can affect everyone around them. People’s cores can be fundamentally good but they could be tempted or affected by others.
That requires not just the right to be left alone, but also the right to communicate with, to learn from and test views in conversations.” (18-19) To interpret, the “light” an individual goes by and follows without the command of others can improve the way society accepts others and can help develop a community with tranquility that contains a better more peaceful outlook. Accepting others for who they are even if that individual's way of thinking or acting is a world away from yours shows a unique advancement in humankind, remarkably only few express this way of

Not only do I consider others perspectives and ideas when I make ethical decisions, but I also consider my family's history. My family gave up everything to come to America for a better life, risking all possibilities of failure. This taught me to jump on any opportunity given to me to be a become better person or to live a better life despite the fear of failure and rejection. Because of my grandparents giving everything up and moving here, I have grown up in a place full of wonderful opportunities and amazing
This research focuses on the importance of moral behavior and its relations with critical thinking. In order to do this I chose to view a certain situation that occurred and had the qualities to prove and discuss my main topic. I chose to use a recent story that occurred during the 2016 NFL Draft, in which a player by the name Laremy Tunsil was publicly humiliated due to him going against his moral behavior. His agent, family, and himself all had to find a way to quickly and critically think how to fix their problem. Through social media and television Mr. Tunsil found himself defending his moral behavior and redeeming himself in order to be drafted.
This paper will compare the usefulness of character-based and consequence-based approaches in making moral decisions. In a character-based approach, the consideration of the moral agent is central in making decisions, and actions are made in order to reflect and strengthen good character. In a consequence-based approach, the consideration of the outcome is central in making moral decisions, and actions are judged based on the outcome. Usefulness will be defined in terms of three aspects: consistency, convenience and assurance, with assurance being defined as the confidence that the decision made is correct. Through the comparison of the two approaches, it becomes clear that a character-based approach is more useful in making a decision.
Leadership is not an easy task. This is mainly because in every situation, the leader is expected to make some decisions that determine the direction that his company takes. As such, if he makes a mistake, there is a very great possibility that the whole organization will be misled (Charnes, Cooper and Rhodes 2). As such, the leaders need to be very effective in their decision making skills. This is mainly because if they. An indecisive leader is an ineffective leader there is no way that he can lead the organization to success. A leader needs to be very decisive so as to rally support from his staff (ubalt.edu
When surrounded by different groups, one uses various types of ethics. For example when one is surrounded by friends and brothers or sisters one forgets what on was taught by our elders about manners and about being courteous, but when dealing with elders or a superior, certain carefulness is necessary. One cannot just say anything that pops out into one’s head, because one can be judged accordingly and would be thought to be vulgar or disrespectful. We develop many values and ethics through past experiences whether it is a positive or negative experience. These thoughts and beliefs are what guide us through our
I was respectful of others moral and spiritual beliefs although they my have differed from my own.
