1 Running Head: Information Technologies Applications Information Technologies Applications Haya Zeidan Strayer University HSA 315 Dr. MOUNTASSER KADRIE Assignment #1 April 26, 2011 Information Technologies Applications 2 Abstract The information Technologies Applications is widely used nowadays. Information technology (IT) has the potential to improve the quality, safety, and efficiency of health care. But before everything we should increasing our understanding of the information technologies in the health care. Also, we should understand what types of (IT) applications are most useful for improving health care? In this paper I will compares …show more content…
The system can remind providers to offer the service during routine visits and remind patients to schedule care. Reminders to patients generated by EMR systems have been shown to increase patients’ compliance with preventive care recommendations when the reminders 5 are merely interjected into traditional outpatient workflows. This system helps in disease management and preventive services. It provides very vital information like patients without an exam for certain time, patient with certain levels BP, patients who are taking a certain class of medication, patients who are suffering from a certain type of disease, screening and immunization information, Lab tests Results, etc. This is a complete DB driven system and user can create any rule that she wants on any of the modules in the EMR and he will be alerted for the same. -HER: its Improve clinical processes or workflow efficiency, Improve quality of care and Improve clinical documentation to support appropriate billing service levels. Share patient information among health care practitioners and professionals. Reduce medical errors (improve patient safety). Establish a more efficient and effective information infrastructure as a competitive advantage. Also, it is can Share patient information among health care practitioners and professionals. Improve clinical documentation to support appropriate billing service levels. -E- prescribing: Improved patient safety and overall quality of care.
However, health informatics is the kind of application system normally used by most hospitals and clinics to deliver high quality and cost efficient healthcare service to the community. According to Bacon County Hospital press release (2002), the informatics system was implemented to make the delivery of medical services such as surgical treatment and other general treatment faster. In this paper, therefore we look into how the informatics systems/applications has evolved since it was implemented by the Bacon County Hospital; discuss the future trends for healthcare informatics and how these trends impact the healthcare delivery system.
Based on the patient safety, patient satisfaction, data, and culture of the institution, it is possible to choose different methods of reducing risk in health care settings. Those methods include ancient methods such flow-sheets, Kardex, sticker reminders, checklists. The EMR is a new and convenient method to mitigate error in health care settings.
Electronic medical record or EMR is information technology applications. These are helping managers improve methods in facilities. Health care technology is improving and evolving EMR is an important part of that component. Health information technology helps with health care organization to keep an accurate track with patient medical information. There is also Clinical Decision Support System that helps with figuring out diagnostic treatment recommendations it helps nurses or doctors it is referred as CDSS. Electronic Management Material is used in health facilities or EMM helps with tracking inventory, such as medical supplies, pharmaceuticals, and others. These applications help to improve quality in the health care facility or services at FMHC. It helps managers keep accurate data to make sure doctors have the right information on patients and his or her care. The managers at FMHC can look through the CDSS databases and collect the correct information to see warnings on drug interactions on prescriptions to clinical protocols. The EMM can ensure the organization has the supplies
Health Information Exchange (HIE) supports both transferring and sharing of health related information that is usually stored in multiple organizations, while maintaining the context and integrity of the information being exchanged (HIE, 2014). The goal of health information exchange is to expedite access to and retrieve clinical data to provide safe efficient, effective, equitable, timelier patient-centered care (HIE, 2014). HIE “provides access and retrieval of patient information to authorized users in order to provide safe, efficient, effective, and timely patient care” (HIE, 2014).
Healthcare information technology forms a pivotal part of today 's healthcare system. Improved quality of healthcare, patient safety, drastic reduction in medical errors and enhancement of care delivery is possible because of the induction of these solutions in the healthcare delivery environment. Today, healthcare IT solutions are enabling processes like planning, decision-making related to organizational development, strategic planning to drive growth, recruitment of competent personnel, managing employee benefits, payroll, intra-department communication, etc.
Health Information Technology has increased efficiency; medical breakthroughs have increased life expectancy, cures, and improved preventive care. Benefits of EMR’s are the opportunities for improving health care efficiency, safety, health benefits and net savings, reducing hospital lengths of stay, nurse’s administrative time drug usage in hospitals and drug and radiology usage in the outpatient setting (Takvorian,2007). EMR’s will assist with research and quality improvement leading to rapid advancement in personalized medicine. It helps patients become more involved in their care (Takvorian, 2007).
In today’s healthcare industry, technological advances for the treatment of diseases are on the raise and constantly evolving. There is an increase on the usage portable devises capable of record patient’s information, computerized provider order entry (CPOE) stations for prescription drugs order entry use by authorized license health professionals and other systems that can process data and share by other healthcare professionals. With the introduction of an EMR which is a digital version of a paper chart in a doctor’s practice or office. An EMR consist of the medical record history of the patients in one practice, it provides the physician, nurse or clinician the capability of following up patient’s preventive screenings, vaccinations, and records the physician’s notes for future diagnostics and treatment.
I selected Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and the purpose to talk about ADHD is to help parents to identify and help them if they have a child who is probably affected for this condition. For me is very important as a parent to identify the deficit as early as possible to start helping the child who is diagnosed with this condition. According to The National Resource Center on ADHD “Individuals with ADHD can be very successful in life. However without identification and proper treatment, ADHD may have serious consequences, including school failure, family stress and disruption depression, problems with relationships, substance abuse, delinquency, accidental injuries and job failure.”
Electronic Health Systems are equipped with many features that are designed to reduce medical errors and help navigate patients through the healthcare system. One system that is worth looking at is the MedicsDocAssistant™ (MDA™). MDA™ supports many features such as alerts (“MedicsDocAssistant,”). Alerts will pop up on a provider’s screen letting them know that there is something wrong with the patient’s care. Alerts can range from prescription alerts, warning physicians of potential adverse drug effects or allergy complications, to alerts pertaining to clinical decisions regarding patient examinations, procedures and screenings that may be crucial. For example, the system will alert to the physician to remind female patients of a certain age to schedule a mammogram screening. The objectives of these alerts are to aid in properly diagnosing patients, identifying gaps in care, running appropriate tests as well as improving patient outcomes (“How EHR Alerts,” 2012).
EMR systems would change the way care is delivered with designed technology and proper use of its software.
The EMR system created by eClinicalWorks allows providers to share patient information with hospitals that follow the Intergrating the Healthcare Enterprise standards.
As part of the year 10-health studies class, in the last unit, the class has made a recommendation to improve the situation related to the health issues. In the present unit it is required to implement an issue. As a class one environment that the class has in common is Macgregor SHS. Assigned to groups of 5, the members are to identify a health problem within the physical environment. The physical environment affects one’s health because it can facilitate or discourage interactions and may subsequent benefits of social support. An example is that an inviting environment around the school would encourage more students to enjoy and have comfort around the area. Another reason why it can affect student’s health is it could be an influencing factor
The information technology is changing the world at deviate speed and evident in the healthcare system. The integration of new technologies within the system are emerging the change in nursing practice and improvement of patient safety. The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview on the implemented in nursing practice strategies and contribution of information technology to the development of new healthcare system.
