Athletes Overpaid

Professional athletes are highly talented and determined entertainers with extraordinary physical abilities. They compete in various sports to entertain people and make a living. Those include basketball, football, baseball, hockey, tennis, and the list goes on to any athlete that gets paid to play. These athletes train really hard and for long hours to be the best at what they do. Fans pay to watch them perform because they really enjoy seeing them. Like other entertainers, such as actors and singers, athletes are paid large amounts for their performances. Professional athletes are not overpaid for the amount of physical and mental stress they go through to do their job.

Do you think professional athletes are overpaid? You might think they earn more than what they are worth for playing half a year, but athletes have many things which contribute to their salary. Some of these things include their earnings from endorsements, ticket sales, performance, merchandise, their social contributions, and TV ratings. Although there are many factors that contribute to their salary, professional athletes may be overpaid because as a society, we contribute to their success. So, in the end, part of the athlete’s salary comes from the people who support the sports in the first place. These are just some of the reasons why athletes are paid so much money.

The National Hockey League’s minimum salary is $500,000. The NBA’s minimum salary is over $450,000, and the MLB has a minimum salary of $400,000. So just to start out in any of these leagues, every single player is already making the same if not more than the President of the United States. Now the President not only makes important decisions that affect the course of our country, but he can also affect what happens in the entire world. How could an 18-year-old rookie pitcher with no experience professionally be started out on a base salary making more money than the president? I think that teachers, doctors, firefighters and law enforcement should get paid more than professional athletes. I think this because teachers provide education for people who want to become something like a professional athlete. A teacher educates people. Doctors and firefighters help people and even save people's lives. Also they all have to go and pay for college a lot longer than a professional athlete would have to. Pro athletes are not overpaid and should not be criticized for their high salaries.They get their money from fans buying merchandise, tickets and supporting their teams. Pro athletes also get money from big businesses sponsoring them. Although they get a lot of their income from fans and sponsors, they also appear in ads and support businesses. In conclusion, Professional athletes make a lot of money, but deserve all of it.

Athletes in the United States are overpaid. Do they really need that much money for just playing a sport? There are people who save lives such as firefighters or nurses who do not get paid nearly that.

Imagine you are a teacher. You show up to work every day to a long day of teaching, helping students, and prepping for the next day. You get home from work and have more grading and preparing to complete to be ready for the next day. After working for hours upon hours every day for a pay lower than the average US worker’s income, you turn on the TV, only to hear about the millions of dollars someone is making over a time they may not even be playing or working at all. Whether pro athletes are being given too much money has been a hot topic for the past few decades, ever since athlete salaries have been skyrocketing. Even the incomes of physicians, the highest average paying job in the country comes nowhere close to that of an athlete at the highest level. Pro athletes work very little, are paid much more for their work load, and aren’t able to spend their money effectively after sports.

Are athletes paid too much? Yes, they are paid too much. Think about other people who need the money to survive like the homeless. There are other reasons why athletes are overpaid, but I'm going to focus on the ones that in my opinion are really important. The homeless, teachers, doctors, etc., and the environment.

Professional athletes are paid exactly what they deserve and they work harder and risk more than people think.Athletes put their blood sweat and tears into this. Also according to athletes earn what they deserve,athletes on average at the end of the career make 24 million just like the rest of the world.

Athletes are what you could call spoiled, and a lot of people believe that they are not overpaid.But there are so many more important jobs that are actually doing something for our society, but were wasting this money and giving it to athletes who just play a game for their money. A lot of this is our fault to, we watch them play on tv, we fill the stadiums, we purchase the tickets , and we buy their merchandise. The average American family makes $53,657, some of this goes to bills,taxes, and the food they need to eat. Is this really fair? Athletes can basicly just throw their money around on whatever. American also have it pretty good but were not spoiled, Africa on the other hand, it's a struggle and it's kinda sad that they don't get this easiness of life.

Do you really think that athletes deserve to make more money than the nurses of this country!? Did you know that athlete’s salaries are up to $56 million a year? Yet Barack Obama-the president of the U.S- only makes $400,000! Do you realize what this means? It says something terrible about our society. We prefer entertainment over safety. Many athletes are paid millions of dollars. Some people think these athletes don’t deserve their money, but others do. This has been a problem that has been on and off. Never really solved. Did athletes deserve their money? Yes or no? Most likely it will never be cleared!

Athletes are paid because they do something they enjoy. They play their games, train, and travel around the world full time. Seems enjoyable compared to a nurse’s career. Nurses have to work around 12 hours everyday and are only paid about $70,000. Is there a reason why we pay entertainers more than Lebron James has made $71 million in a year. Compare that to $400 thousand, the amount of money the president makes in a year.

On the other hand, Athletes make more than nurses, but do they deserve it? They deserve to make a decent living for after retirement. They usually have 5-15 years in their job. Indeed, they are playing for the fans: us. Is it really worth it, thought?
