I want my time spent in the OTA program at Wright College to be as successful as possible. The program is very important to me especially since it could determine what my future career will be. I plan on taking this program very seriously, more seriously than anything else in my life. I understand that sacrifices will have to be made in order to make my time in the program a success and that some will be easier than others. I plan on making this program my number one priority and I realize this will most likely be the most difficult educational challenge I will experience to this point. I also understand that there will be difficult times that one can’t predict that must be dealt with. I plan to deal with any of these obstacles that may …show more content…
Jewel is nice because I get to improve my customer service and deal with a ton of different people every shift. It helps you develop self-control because sometimes the customer isn’t right but we have to make it seems as though they are. In order to make every shift a success I must manage my time for task properly, deal with any issues a customer may have, and be able to communicate with my other co-workers on what needs to be done and who will do it. The other job I currently have is at an Athletico Physical Therapy Clinic. Athletico helps me get some experience in the medical field and deal with a variety of different patients and get to know them more then I would be able to working at Jewel. In order to be successful at this job every shift I must demonstrate good bedside manner, juggle multiple task and patients at once, and communicate with the physical therapist on what they want done and how to do it. While I can handle to work load with my current schedule, I do plan on leaving at least one of the jobs once the first semester of the program when it starts if I’m accepted. I’m still not sure which one I …show more content…
I mainly did these volunteer service hours during my time in high school and some others in grade school that I can’t quite remember. For my first three years in high school each student had to get a certain amount of service hours. For all three years I chose Merrimac Park for the location I would choose. It was close to me and I went there often. My first year I simply walked around the park and picked up all the trash I spotted. The second year I did this but then I also asked if they would let me help in the park house as well. They said yes so whenever I came I would sweep the floors of both the hallways and the gym. The third year I was once again looking to do a little more so I offered my services as a score board operator for the youth flag football league I had once been a part of at the park. I knew the person in charge of the athletic programs at the park so he agreed. I was even allowed to ref a few games because I know the basic rules having been in the league and also playing football myself in high school. I think that year was my favorite out of the three. I loved cleaning the park but adding on the role to help out the flag football league was a blast. It was something that at the time I was passionate about and had a close tie with. To be able to help was truly an honor and made me glad I was able to volunteer my time at the
I have been a part of different activities for my community service. I have helped the TLC preschool afterschool with cleaning tables and toys once all the children have gone home. I have also been to the shelly baird school where they disabled kids go for schooling and helped out there with the students doing their work and played games .I am currently in “Dude Be Nice Club” and recently we participated in project night night where we would gather donated security blankets a book or stuffed animal and deliver them to children who have very little in homeless shelters. My community service in this case helped me realize that there are people out there who need some encouragement to help them get back on their feet and realize in life that
As far as community service, I volunteered at a local activity center and worked at a local salvation army thrift store. At the NorthWest Activities Center, I assisted employees with organizing invoices, answering phone calls, making any reservations
It takes time out of your day and usually goes unpaid. In my life I have been involved in many service “projects”. One service that I have always participated in and enjoy doing is helping the boys in sixth grade and below. I have worked many boys basketball tournaments and helped out at these tournaments. I have also went to the saturday morning boys basketball practices as well as the camps that have taken place over the years. At these practices and the camps I lead the boys in drills, help them out, and teach them. I have also helped out at the preschool, the dinners, and other celebrations at the Landeck Church. I believe that I do posses the qualities of service and that I always will.
As surprising as it may sound, I have been doing community service since the sixth grade and it is a new experience each time. It all began with a community clean up known as 'Keep McAllen Beautiful' as we got there everyone seemed excited to be there. It was beautiful to see such unity inside of my community, and I decided from then on that I would like continue helping out where it is needed. As I joined the National Honor Society my chances of providing my services increased, and I decided that I would assume a position of leadership when needed. I became the society's president, which allowed me to develop my time management skills, creativity, and efficiency. I organized an fundraiser for the hurricane Harvey disaster victims where all
Volunteering and participating in service projects are two of the most rewarding activities in my opinion. Some people may find it was a hassle or only do it because they have to meet the minimum requirement for school or work. Helping others, for me, has always been somewhat second nature to me. Over many years of volunteering I believe I have developed qualities that will stick with me for life and benefit me in my career. As early as freshman year, in high school, I found myself looking for ways to give back. I started by looking for opportunities within school, where I came across the A+ tutoring program, and so my journey of giving back began. While tutoring, my patience for others really evolved, partly by choice and partly because
Between band practice, studying, and officer meetings, I find time to volunteer. Through my 3 clubs, I have completed over 250 hours of volunteer service. Many of my service hours have come from HOSA, where I can obtain clinical experience through volunteering at nursing homes, health fairs, or hospitals. Volunteering has been extremely important to me, and every experience is special. I can remember vividly my first volunteer experience at a soup kitchen where a man began to sing hymns. It was such a shock to me that I could be as much of a blessing to people. That experience inspired me to continue volunteering throughout high
From day one my mom taught me that you will get more satisfaction giving to and helping others than you ever will by just doing things for yourself. I truly believe this. Volunteering to teach swimming lessons, organizing recycled items, and visiting the nursing home are all things I have been involved in and doing each of those I have learned more and more about how important service is. Just recently my classmates and I helped an elderly woman move all of her belongings out of her home and into the 4H building for an auction. The 4H building is on the fairgrounds where I have volunteered to clean up every spring for the last 3 years. Service is very important but also very rewarding. I look toward to doing more service projects in the
I am a member of National Honor Society. We volunteer and help people in anyway we can. So far I have about 20 hrs of community service. I helped my teacher moved everything in his class during the summer. I helped an old woman raked leaves in her backyard. I volunteered to assist my high school's registration. I lend a hand to elementary school children and basically played and watched them. I assisted a youth wrestling tournament. There are many more services in which I hoped to help out.
I believe that I have significantly strengthened my application since the last PTCAS cycle. In August of 2014, I gained admittance into Delgado Community College’s physical therapist assistant (PTA ) program. I completed the program in July of 2015. Over the course of eleven months, I excelled academically and maintained a 4.0 GPA. Prior to attending DCC, the only observation hours I had completed were in two different out-patient clinics. During my time in DCC’s PTA program, I was assigned to four different clinical rotations. Three of my rotations granted me the opportunity to observe the practice of physical therapy in a skilled nursing facility and in two different acute care hospital settings. My fourth clinical rotation was an out-patient
For my community service, I have been going to Lyndon B. Johnson Head Start Program, or LBJ. At LBJ, it is my responsibility to look after children and clean up after them. The teachers there set up many activities for the kids to work on, most of the time they finger paint. The teachers also set up small field trips. For example, we once went on a field trip to a house that had set up a pumpkin patch and many other activities for the kids. The house we went to wasn’t very far from LBJ. The children had so much fun choosing a pumpkin and playing different games, and I had fun helping them and taking care of them.
Service in the school and community is an insight to your character and work ethic. I have over 20 hours of community service from many different experiences. Last summer I worked for Camp Barakel, a summer camp, in the kitchen. I assisted in serving food and cleaning. I learned discipline and teamwork through this valuable experience. Not only this I’ve worked with the Elderly in Rehabilitation centers and the patience and nurturing qualities is something that will forever be valuable in my life. Last but not least working as Big Sister or Buddy to a 4th grade girl has given me the chance to positively impact and influence her life as simply as having a friend is immense. All of these service opportunities as added to my character and prepared me for the responsibilities of
Since the summer of eighth grade I have volunteered at Essentia Health Hospital making tie blankets for inpatients. These patients are able to take the blankets home with them when they are well enough to leave the hospital. Moreover, I volunteer at my local church for a once-a-month food share. I help unload the food from the truck, sort out the rotten produce, and distribute the food among the shareholders. Additionally, I clean up highways and trails as a part of Green Club ,and I partake in numerous other volunteer opportunities within my school
The activity this week is based on value and ethics. We chose our team this week and our team was assigned to role-play based on SBAR. Our team divided ourselves into different healthcare professionals to effectively communicated and facilitated our patient. I was given the part of being a Physical Therapist and had to evaluate and recommend proper therapy to my patient. I believe I was successful in my evaluation and recommendation based on my knowledge of a Physical Therapist.
The first thing I want to state is that I learned quite a bit from this course. This is probably one of the most challenging courses I’ve taken thus far in my college career. Most of tasks I’ve done in this course I have never done before and that’s what made it so challenging. I am use to taking courses that require me to study material from presentations and books. With this information I take exams and quizzes. This course was nothing like that. This course had me going out and networking with individuals outside of the university. The networking is the very first thing that stood out to me in this course since I am not really the outgoing/ people person. From networking I did learn a lot and met numerous interesting people that
When I was a freshman volunteering was expected as service hours, but by my sophomore year my high school would not acknowledge the volunteer hours anymore. Regardless, every year I took it upon myself to sign up for these service facilities because I was eager to know what it would be like in the medical environment. In college, I plan to apply for internships regarding my profession to have more knowledge in order to become a pediatrician. Having volunteered at these medical facilities has taught me to stay dedicated to what I do because not only did I obtain more knowledge about my intended major, I was able to enjoy meeting many people through these organizations and listen to their different life stories. Had I only volunteered for the required high schools hours I would have not created all the amazing friendships and great opportunities I was able to experience.
