Atopic eczema is a skin condition that can be in remission and can flare up because of different factors. The skin condition is known for its distinct characteristics, such as red, itchy skin. Although it is mostly common in children, it can occur at any age. Over the years, there has been growing interest in different strategies to prevent and manage atopic eczema. Each person is different in the way their condition flares, and most of the time has been treated with topical calcineurin inhibitors and topical corticosteroids. In the article, “Validation of Treatment Escalation as a Definition of Atopic Eczema Flares,” there was an experiment ran to validate concepts of atopic eczema flares based on daily medicine usage, if there was an escalation of treatment or the days that topical anti-inflammatory medication was used. In the experiment data was used from two atopic eczema studies, and they were both analyzed by themselves. The data that was used from the previous studies were both based in the UK and they included children with different severities of atopic eczema. In the first study, the participants received normal care and water softener. The experiment consisted of 336 children that had moderate to severe atopic eczema. I have seen firsthand how much it can effect a person’s life. My mother was diagnosed with this disease when I was 11, when she went to the doctor, they did not think that it was that big of a deal, and she was prescribed different types of medicine. Although the medicines that she was given she had allergic reactions too and they caused scares. Her atopic eczema flare when she is stressed or worried about something. She will find something that helps it, and it works for a while then it will stop working. It is a never ending battle no matter how hard a person
