For quite some time people have been trying to legalize Pot in Missouri. Marijuana is from the plant called “Indian Hemp Plant” people actually consume the seeds, flowers and leaves from the plant. On the street, it is called by many other names, such as Dope, Hemp, Weed, Grass, Pot, and Mary Jane. I feel like this would become a huge issue in Missouri, bringing laziness and workers who don't work hard. Also it would be bad for the public. Marijuana can ruin your chances to get a job and put a huge negative impact in your kids’ lives. The short and long term effects of marijuana include impaired vision, time perception and sensory, difficulty with thinking, concentrating and problem solving; shortened attention span, decreased …show more content…
Some studies also have linked pot to suicidal thoughts. The NIDA notes that marijuana use can result in a 40% increased risk of getting psychosis, and the drug also can lead to Anxiety and Depression. Marijuana can ruin your kids’ lives. There has been an 80% increase in Weed use among teens since 2008. Do you want your teens to be making great grades for their education? You should need to know that studies have proved that teens who smoked pot regularly lost as much as eight points in their intelligence quotient test and they didn’t recover their intellectual ability when they became adults. Even though there are more articles about marijuana being good for you and the economy, I still believe that all these negative effects it has on you and the public are very bad, therefor it should remain illegal. Marijuana is used for medicine also, it is legal in 15 states for medical use only and in Colorado it is totally legal for everyone over 21 years old. One way I can prevent Missouri becoming a legal state is to promote awareness and give my honest opinions. I feel like the public is doing enough when it comes to raising awareness, like the D.A.R.E program that schools have. If I see any of my friends wanted to try it I will talk to them and ask them if that’s what they really want for them. I could try and

Marijuana should be illegal in every state not only in Mississippi for medical use. Mississippi is one of the many states that marijuana is not legalized. I believe that they should make it legal for people
The topic of legalizing recreational marijuana in the United States has been a very controversial one. States such as Colorado and Washington have gone on the offensive and have legalized recreational marijuana and have enjoyed the high revenues brought in from cannabis sale. On the other hand other states have kept low profiles because they are wary of the possible negative outcomes of legalizing recreational marijuana and are using the states of Colorado and Washington as guinea pigs to see what their next course of action on this controversial topic should be. This is not only a highly debated topic among politicians, but also by the people. According to a poll conducted by the Pew Research Center 52% of Americans
Legalizing marijuana would mean that it would be easier for the drug to get in the hands of kids. According to CASA findings “Despite reported declines in teen marijuana use in 2007, almost eleven million teens report using marijuana. Marijuana is a major substance that is being abused among teens in America. More than five times the increase in such findings for all other substance abuse.” With marijuana becoming so popular again with teens most people believe that we should keep the drug illegal.
According to Jessica Atkins many crimes in several states are increasing due to the “selling and possession” of the substance. Atkins also pointed out that marijuana is a “natural herb” and it is extremely less dangerous than any other illegal substance. With that being said many also worry about parents who also consume this drug and the effects it would have on their children. Dr. Melanie Dreher conducted many experiments and has inferred that children who are born to marijuana consuming parents show no factors of birth defects, also the child tends to be more intelligent than children not born to marijuana consuming parents. There is also a lot of benefits towards consuming medical marijuana also, it can benefit anyone who has a mental illness and could also help a woman's pregnancy with decreasing the sense of nausea and vomiting. Marijuana is a very controversial topic especially legalizing it but people need to realize that there are substances that are killing many people today that are completely legal under the federal law and it is injustice to keep a drug that has many benefits and could help people
Marijuana is an addictive drug. Fifty percent of everyday marijuana users become addicted. Most of all my peers I go to college and went to high school with smoke everyday with no intention in stopping. They smoke maybe five times throughout the day and when I ask why, they told it helps them stay calm and chills them. So they are really telling me that their body cannot function properly without their daily dose of marijuana because their body is trying to keep at homeostasis. That is why when everyday users try to quit smoking, they suffer from irritability, sleeplessness, anxiety, and a decreased appetite. Marijuana effects motivation, short term and long term memory, and also school work. College students smoke throughout the day, so it makes it very likely that they try to do school work or even go to class under the influence. One fact that I really didn’t know about with marijuana is that it increases the heart rate, along with raising blood pressure and damaging the lungs. For me that is important because I was born with a defective heart that takes twice as much energy to pump blood and I also have high blood pressure which is hereditary in my family. So not only did I put myself at a criminal risk, I also put myself at a health risk as well. There is also a risk for someone to buy “laced” marijuana which means that there is potential that
Dr. Drew Pinsky once said “It would be malpractice to say cannabis isn't addictive”. In America, of the 7.3 million people charged were classified with illicit drug abuse in 2012, 4.3 million were with marijuana. The more legal and accessible marijuana gets, the worse it will be for society and the users. Marijuana needs to stay illegal. Marijuana has many effects that prove it needs to remain illegal. Marijuana largely and negatively affects your mental health, is horrible for your physical health, and ruins lives and is dangerous for the community. Looking at those three reasons we can see that marijuana needs to remain illegal because it largely affects your mental health, is terrible for your physical health, and wrecks lives and is dangerous
A number of movements to legalize marijuana have been gaining attention lately. Currently there are 14 states where marijuana is legal for medical use (medicalmarijuana). 41% of U.S. citizens believe marijuana should be legalized (drugpolicy) but others are still concerned about health damage. American society has lost the war against marijuana, and that's okay. We should stop wasting time and money trying to reverse history and instead legalize both medical and recreational use of this mild narcotic widely seen as no more harmful than alcohol.
Some medical reasons that marijuana shouldn’t be decriminalized are that it has long and short terms effects. Examples of the short term outcomes include memory loss, difficulty with thinking, loss of motor skills and increased heart rate. According to the National Institutes of Health show that someone smoking about five joints per week is taking in as many cancer causing chemicals as someone smoking a pack of cigarettes every day. There is no science proof that smoked marijuana can be used for medication. Since cannabis plants are polluted with a range of fungal spores, smoking marijuana may increase the risk of infectious organisms. Taradiff, J. "Marijuana and the War on Drugs. “Marijuana. Farmington Hills, Michigan: Thomas Gale, 2008. 157. Print.
I guess you can call me narrow-minded, old-fashioned for not believing what most other people believe in, which is weed should be legal. However, make no mistake marijuana is a drug that poses a real threat to your life and health. The harmful impacts of legalizing marijuana is greater than any benefits. It would not reduce crime or costs of public health. Moreover, it’s going to affect the safety of your society, your kid’s future and your educational achievement. I really hope it won’t be
Although it is a highly common defense that marijuana is not addictive, it in fact is. Many regular smokers find themselves ridden with very similar withdrawal symptoms of a tobacco addict (Marijuana Addiction Symptoms and Effects). Around 9% of people who use find themselves dependent on marijuana (Is Marijuana Addictive?). That may not seem like much, but that is almost 1 in every 10 people hooked on a drug that is supposedly “non-addictive.” Legalizing a drug that causes disorientation, paranoia, depression, anxiety, dizziness, and a slowed reaction time is not safe, not to mention the fact that it is a gateway drug, often leading users to use even more damaging and dangerous drugs (Is Marijuana Addictive?). With the legalization of a drug like marijuana comes increased use and abuse of the drug. Marijuana is unsafe medically for the individual using and for the people around them when the user is under the influence, it will cost the government money and time and it will cost employers tons. Legalizing marijuana would be a huge mistake by our country.
Marijuana is believe it or not, one of the safest ‘illegal’ drugs on Earth. It is safer than legal alternatives: alcohol or tobacco. According to CNN “1 in 8 Americans smoke marijuana on a regular basis.” the drug can provide medical benefits, lower social costs, and better the economy. Therefore Marijuana should be deemed legal for recreational and medicinal usage across America, because it provides medical benefits, lowers social cost, and betters the economy across the board.
More than one in three people have experimented with marijuana in their lifetime. Meaning that if you’re living, breathing, and socializing chances are you’ve met thousands of people who have either tried or is currently dependent on marijuana. Whether it’s referred to it as cannabis, hemp, weed, pot, reefer, grass, or mary-jane, it’s gone global and has proven significantly difficult to control. There is no substantial research stating whether weed is clear cut good or bad for people to consume, but most doctors and counselors will tell you it's a no-go. Pot is detrimental to mental and physical health, your personality, and society as a whole and should only be legal in instances where death is inevitable. The negative side effects of this
Marijuana, also known as Cannabis is the third most well-liked recreational drug, which only falls behind alcohol and tobacco, in the United States (The Whitehouse, n.d.). Marijuana is made up of dried leaves, plants, stalks, and pits from the hemp plant Cannabis Sativa, which comprises of the mind-altering compound delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), in addition to other associated compounds. This plant substance can correspondingly be converged in a resin called hashish or an adhesive black fluid called hash oil. Efforts to legalize marijuana for medication treatment and recreational use in the United States have grown in current years. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) states that marijuana may perhaps
Marijuana does more good for your body than harm and it’s healthy for the environment,so no pollution and it can also help the economy by saving space in jails. There’s more medical/good outcomes from marijuana than there is bad. The consumption of marijuana is proven to be healthier for your lungs than cigarettes, which is legal at the age 18. Marijuana can help medically too, helps ease anxiety disorders, depression, parkinson’s disease, and tons others. According to study published by Journal of Neurology,Neurosurgery and Psychiatry in 2013,cannabis contains THC which can relieve the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease by assisting in the prevention of damage caused by free radicals and activating PPAR a receptor. In studies on rats, the researchers
