Attending: I started the conversation with a direct question of “So, Ms. Erickson, you wanted to discuss a problem you are having with Maria?” She responded with “Yes.” During this conversation, I asked indirect questions such as “What are the concerns that you have? and “Have you talked to her about why her homework hasn’t been completed?” These questions were at the beginning of the video. At 53 seconds, we were talking at the same time, which I did realize until I reviewed the video. Unfortunately, this happened another time at 1:01 but I stopped and waited for her to complete her comment. Both of these incidents seem like normal conversation, and I was the one being interrupted. To me, this it is fine for her to interrupt but …show more content…
In this situation, the teacher was the one asking most of the questions. This is because she is a new teacher with very little experience with contracts.
Score: 3 By answering the actual question that she has, I am showing that I am listening to her. I am providing her with the correct answer to her questions instead of avoiding them or talking around the response.
Empathy:
During the conversation, we did stay on the topic of Maria. The teacher did have concerns about how much time the interventions were going to take to implement. I did explain the contract is quick and easy to put in place. Also, I offered to help her set up the progress monitoring in the computer. I have found by teaching someone how to set this up the computer they are able to complete this process on their own in the future. This will save time for both of us.
Score: 3 - We did stay on the topic of Maria. I understand that the teacher is concerned about the amount of time that will be invested in one student. However, I tried to ease her concerns by assuring her that it would not take much time.
Assertiveness:
I am finding “I” messages along with acting as a consultant a difficult balance. I want to assist the teacher by providing suggestions and helpful information without actually doing the work for them which is my job as a consultant. I personally have implemented contracts and entered the

4. Self-Assessment: I was impressed on how quickly I found the answer to the Problem of the Week. Normally, in this math class, first answer you get immediately is not the right answer. But this time I got it on the first try. I would rate myself a 10 out of 10 for my
In the case scenario provided, Jeff Bliss though that the teacher was not teacher as it is expected of her. According to Bliss, students need to be taught on a face to face basis in order for them
In my role as a teaching assistant I am in some instances the first point of contact for the pupils or parents so therefore I would need to show strong effective communication.
“She was able to answer all our questions about the subject and provided us with information and resources to further our learning. I felt prepared for the next school year.”
In the weekly meeting that we have for this student we are all supposed to say how the week prior has gone academics, behaviors and other concerns. The goals of the meeting are to mostly collaborative with the special education, regular teacher and special education aide in the academics. Some of the things we talked about was if there were any questions of modification for anything in the curriculum going on. Also, any behavior concerns that was going on that needed to be addressed and dealt with by the bcba and aba technician. We spoke about the progress the student has had in the different areas in her goals. Everyone sits in a round table and goes around saying what they have seen in growth or lacking areas to improve. The behavior data is also
In conclusion, I did great in this class because I was conscious about what goal of this class. I was ready for this class since the day I registered for it, and I decided to read and follow what it mentioned in the syllabus, and to listen to my teacher. It was my responsibility to be up to date on my works and assignments even though I had another class this semester. As Jean De La Fontaine said: “slow and steady wins the race
I encouraged Maria to identify her goals, as if I were to do this on the her behalf, they are unlikely to be achieved, as Maria would be disconnected from a goal that she has not developed herself, and will not be
I thought I did well at explaining the purpose of this meeting. First, I asked Kelsey if she knew why we were meeting. Because I was a school social worker, I was slightly aware of Kelsey’s presenting problem. Chang at al., (2013) states, “it is important to cover the essential material in a way that the child or adolescent can clearly understand” (p.122). Because Kelsey was a sophomore in high school, I first allowed her to explain why
I feel I should get a four out of four for my grade. I was on-time for our meeting on Saturday, September 24 at 6:00 pm. I participated fully in the group discussion concerning the modules and readings of Challenger Deep. We discussed how this book may not be picked up by teens or adults just reading the cover. This book may need to be book talked or have a display set-up around it. I feel that I was professional and congenial during our 90 discussion. When I started talking, sometimes I would start at the same time as one of my other group members. I would offer to let them go ahead. We discussed the books that we read for the Printz Awards, which I read Bone Gap. We all watched Mean Girls because it was on Netflix. We feel it discusses
Sabrina, Sabrina, Sabrina, you're too funny, maybe being in the field as a Social Worker would have changed her...wink, wink. At least she realizes that she talks too much. Although this is a touchy subject, as her friend, I would have diplomatically told her not to constantly refer to herself; after all, it's best coming from you and not some stranger. Her listening to your emotional conversation, is great; but my gosh, her experience came in handy right? When someone is distracted and not paying any attention, especially, being on their phone, I no longer continue speaking. You can tell they are listening by what they say next, smile. Honestly, that happen to me as well, where others are talking and I'm distracted, hence, I missed what was
Charlotte continues to do excellent work in Precalculus. Her perfect homework and notebook grade show her commitment to finding success in the course. Confidence in her abilities is the only thing on which Charlotte could improve. I will continue to encourage her in this area and look forward to working with her the rest of the
Because of Maria’s’ age she is in Piaget’s concrete/operational stage. Piaget’s suggests that teachers teaching this age group should assigned readings are brief and clearly organized. That their lessons should contain concrete props and visual aids when dealing with complicated material and that the learning experiences provided to students present the world in a logical and predictable way. I would hope that Mr. McDermott was including these recommendations for his whole class. I also think that Maria, an English language learner is going to need some major accommodations, compared to the rest of the English speaking class, even if Mr. McDermott is teaching perfectly to his other students.
Even though I like to pay attention and be other-centered when I am having conversation with others, sometimes I violate a conversation in unappropriate turn- taking. For instance, one time I was having conversation with a friend of mine. I was not giving her an opportunity to finish her conversation. I felt that I knew her point of view. My interruption was intentional because she was repeating the same story, which I have heard more than one time. Also, I was in hurry because I had a class, so I started looking at my watch. I tried to give her a signal that I was not interesting on the topic. I know that it is impolite to interrupt someone, however, if someone is repeating the same story several times, I prefer to ask questions instead of
I believe my discussion and engagement in Discussion #2: Art and Culture of Hip Hop Playlist 1 merits a grade of 5/5 points. In my original post, I provided an analysis of the playlist and connected six songs from the playlist with a common theme. I researched the songs and their artists further and drew information from other class resources, namely, Rubble Kings. The post answered all questions from the prompt, elicited class discussion, and was submitted on time. In addition, I replied to each of the comments on my post and continued our discussion of female artists in hip-hop and their influence. Lastly, I responded in a timely manner to three other students’ posts. I spent more time with the playlist and listened to several of the songs
