Atticus, he is persistent, positive, truthful, serious, concerned, wise, empathetic, and reasonable. But which ones make him, him the most? Is it positivity, or wisdom, it could be any of them.Which ones make you, you? In To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, the theme of social justice is demonstrated through the character of Atticus Finch who is positive and persistent. Social justice is where there is justice in terms of the distribution of wealth, opportunities, and privileges within a society.

“‘It is not time to worry yet,’Atticus reassured him, as we went to the dining room. ‘We’re not through yet. There'll be an appeal, you can count on that” (Lee 213). Atticus is persistent here because he tries to protect Tom Robinson even though there is a guilty status on his head. Atticus also knows that Tom will be proven guilty again, but he wants to try his best and give it all he’s got. Earlier in the novel Jem (Atticus’ son) was having trouble with Mrs. Dubose and was going to give up before Atticus stopped him, “‘Just one more week son,’ said Atticus. ‘No,’ said Jem. ‘Yes,’ said Atticus” (Lee 109). This shows Atticus as a fatherly figure and having Jem be persistent, just like he would. Atticus is also being persistent by telling Jem to continue with what he promised even when he does not want to. To better understand the character of Atticus we have to go deeper, such as finding a hidden meaning like Atticus continuing his fight for Tomś case and wanting his son (Jem) to complete his tasks. Persistence, positivity, wisdom, kindness, and empathy. All of these words are ones that describe a good-doer in the novel To Kill a Mockingbird.
