The first example I noticed in the movie was on Halloween when Julian was holding a mask and saying how Auggie looked like the mask. Jack says also in this scene if he looked like him, he would kill himself. This would be an example indirect bullying because they aren’t saying it directly to Auggie, but behind his back. This would also be verbal, because they are talking behind Auggie back. Also on Halloween, Julian asks Jack why he friends with Auggie any ways. This would be an example of relationship aggression, because he is trying to damage Jacks relationship with Auggie by making him feel bad for being friends with him. When Julian draws a picture and gives it to Auggie that says Freddy Kreugar. This would be an example of social aggression, …show more content…
Then write “No freaks allowed,” and “Do everyone a favor and die.” This would also be an example of social aggression, because he is once again trying to ruin Auggie’s self esteem by making him think no one wants him there. When is Auggie starting school? How does this relate to the grade we discussed with bullying. In the beginning, Auggie’s dad said “it is like leading a lamb to the slaughter”. What do you think he meant by this? (2 pts) Auggie started school in the 5th grade. Middle school is when bullying is at its highest and Auggie is almost in middle school. When Auggie’s dad said, “it is like leading a lamb to the slaughter,” he means that Auggie, who doesn’t look like everyone else, is asking to be made fun of once he gets into school. Explain what happened between Julian and Auggie in Mr. Brown’s class that the teacher did not understand? What type of bullying (direct or indirect) was this and why. (2 pts) This was an example of indirect bullying, because when Julian ask Auggie if he likes Darth Sidious, he is referring to Auggie looking like Darth Sidious. It is indirect, because he didn’t come right out and say he looked like Darth Sidious but he referred to that. The teacher didn’t understand what Julian was referring to. This happens a lot in bullying, the teacher doesn’t catch on to the little comments that are being said to make fun of
He was really happy that he can finally go to public school but yet he was nervous. When Auggie was born, he was not like any other kids he was different from all the other people so that kinda made his life hard for him because he had a rare sickness that does not often happens but for Auggie it happened to him. He thought that was not fair for this to happen to him and not anyone else. When he was born that is when it started for him.In the book it says this “ I know I’m not a ordinary ten-year-old-kid.” (pg.3)
Auggie really learns to stand up for himself and to be confident as the book progresses. Towards the end of the book, Auggie has some self-realization about his life and how to be more brave when it comes to other people bullying him. He says, “It's not that I care that people react to me. Like I've said a gazillion times: I'm used to that by now. I don't let it bother me. It's like when you go outside and it's drizzling a little. You don't put on boots for a drizzle. You don't even open your umbrella. You walk through it and barely notice your hair getting wet” (207). This strong quote shows the theme because Auggie learns that even through the most difficult times, anyone can make it through. Reader should take away from this quote that sometimes, it is best to tough it out and make it through, rather than do nothing about it. Ultimately, having courage is another important theme for the book
And boy will I tell you Julian deserved it. With all the stuff Julian puts Auggie through Julian deserved worse. On page 267 Amos stood up for Auggie by saying, “ Leave him alone dude.” It was really strange for Amos to do this since he was on Julian’s side for awhile.
While on the other hand Auggie, a elementary student was born with severe craniofacial syndrome and deals with looking very t5 different from the rest of the kids he goes to school with. Throughout the book the author, R.J. Palacio tells the story as if you were there with Auggie as he faces challenges mostly through school and with friends. As you can see these
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to go to a new school with no friends and a different face? To have everyone look at you and make a repelling face? That’s what it was like for August Pullman in the 5th grade. Auggie is different that everybody else in 5th grade. Auggie was born with a facial deformity so he looks different that other people he has had 27 so far in his life. Auggie goes to a school called Beecher Prep. In my opinion Beecher Prep has had a positive effect on Auggie’s life because now he has made more friends like Summer, Jack Will, Max G, Max W, and Reid. Sometimes it is hard for auggie to fit in when people like julian step into the picture, but overall Beecher Prep has made Auggie’s life a little easier.
On page 15, dad said “ so sending him off to middle school like a lamb to the slaughter .’’ this is stating that his dad doesn’t really approve of him going to middle school at that period of time. His dad is having an argument with Auggie’s mom. She thinks that he should go to school because she thinks it will be good for
August Pullman is a 10-year-old boy who has a mandibulofacial dysostosis. Which causes his face to appear different. Because of Auggie’ appearance, people a very unkind to him. Auggie has gotten 27 surgeries to help him with his facial deformity. He lives with his parents, his older sister Via, and his dog Daisy. Auggie has been home schooled up until the 5th grade, but his parents decide it's time for him to go to a real school. They register him to Beecher Prep and take him to meet the principal, Mr. Tushman. Before Auggie starts school he takes a tour with three students who will be in the same grade as he was going in. On the tour, he meets Jack Will, Charlotte, and Julian. Jack Will was the kind kid, but Julian was really mean to
I think that Auggie’s experience at Beecher Prep was a good one for him to get a taste of the real world. The reason I think this is because he made good friends like Summer & Jack and to a lesser extent Reid. Also, he made good relationships with his teachers and Principal. Also another example is how more towards the end of the the story Amos and Henry stand up for him when 7th graders mess with them.
The theme of Wonder shows the reader to be loving and kind no matter how the person acts or looks. R.J. Palacio, the author of Wonder shows in the story that students at Beecher Prep, Auggie’s school make fun of him. According to the text they call him names such as by “rat boy, freak, monster, freddy krueger, E.T., gross-out, lizard face, and mutant.” This quote shows how hurtful names can be. They leave ugly and nasty notes in his locker. On the other hand, there are a few students that stand up for him and help him through the hard times. Two students, Jack and Julian got into a fist fight because Jack had gotten stuck with Auggie and Julian wanted to change that since he thought Jack was bummed about being with him. Julian asked Jack “do
At lunch a girl named Summer sits with him and they become friends and sit with each other everyday. Auggie constantly gets teased and made fun of by Julian. Julian's mom even photoshopped Auggie out of the class of the class picture and Julian gave it to him. As the year goes on more people like Auggie for who he is and they stop focusing on his face so much. When auggie went on the nature retreat he got attacked by a bunch of big seventh graders but luckily he was with a
Auggie handled the situation ok with his friend Jack who also hurt him with his words. But Jack didn’t know Auggie heard him . Once Jack found out he apologized to Auggie and Auggie quickly forgave him. Auggies friendship makes him realize that the world is just as what it turned out to be. With all Auggies situations he thinks about quitting
In this story, there is conflict when Julian is starting to bully Auggie and jack. For example, Julian would write nasty, mean, and rude notes in his locker. That would say,“ You look
Bullying can be overt behaviors such as criticism, belittling, being ignored, and spreading rumors, for example.
On Ethan’s exciting first day of school he snuck in the door to his first teacher of elementary school, Mrs. Kelly. Ethan was a well behaved but extremely hyper, outgoing child in the classroom. Ethan was an easy person to get along with in school, he had many friends he would talk to everyday. When report cards came around he had pretty good grades, he was an honor roll student. Along with that Ethan participated in the school’s bitty ball. Ethan was very good at bitty ball. He was tall and had quick legs, which were his advantage. As years went by in elementary he began to think, “I don’t care, it’s just school”. His image as a person was the same but he just stopped caring about his school work. He just wanted to be outside at recess playing ball. By the fourth grade he had a little sister and he moved to a different school, Milltown Elementary. He did not like Milltown, he wanted to go back as soon as he possibly could.By the sixth grade he moved to English and was in the English school for one year then was transferred to Crawford County Jr.
“Youth who participate in bullying are in some way socially vulnerable and use bullying as an expression of power” (“What is Bullying”). Some kids bully because of family problems, personal experiences, or even just to get anger and frustration out. From the book Lord of the Flies this is an example of bullying, “He took a step, and able to at least hit someone, stuck his fist into Piggy’s stomach” (Golding 71). Physical bullying from the character Jack to Piggy, the character that is most bullied. While physical bullying is a big part of the novel Lord of the Flies there are a couple of other types of bullying that are also
