Bashana Haba’ah was composed by Nurit Hurish, composer of over 1,000 songs and one of Israel’s most prolific and diverse composers, in 1967. This piece in particular comes from Israel and is a Hebrew song. Jewish music first originated in the Middle East area about 2,000 years ago, specifically in the land of Israel, and has continued to spread from there, soon reaching America, where we now sing and perform it today. Something interesting about this piece is that it was written shortly after the Six-Day War and a lot of the poetry throughout the piece creates a very strong image of a world in peace, without war.
Irataba (c. 1814 – 1874) was a leader of the Mohave Nation, known as an advocate for peace with whites and a mediator with the United States. He was a renowned orator and one of the first Mohave to speak English. He became the Mohave Nation's Aha macave yaltanack, an elected, as opposed to hereditary, leader. As a result of his many interactions with US officials and settlers, Irataba was invited to Washington, D.C., in 1864 for an official meeting with members of the US military and government, including President Abraham Lincoln. He was the first Native American from the Southwest to meet an American president. Upon his return he negotiated the creation of the Colorado River Indian Reservation, which caused a split in the Mohave Nation when
This piece is based upon the scriptural text from the King James Bible it was first performed in Dublin in 1742; Handel makes use of the renaissance technique of word painting and multi-part polyphony. It uses fascinating word painting and is repeated throughout the piece. This piece comes from the oratorio called Messiah; it is the third piece of Messiah. It is the combination of homophony and polyphony with the addition of two trumpets. There are also two oboes, two violins, a viola, and a basso continuo. The use of basso continuo (instrumental accompaniment) requires a chordal instrument and a thoroughbass.

Gluckel of Hameln, or Glikl bas Judah Leib, was a German Jewish woman born to a prominent trader and merchant, and a skilled business woman. Women in the seventeenth century worked voluntarily to help provide for their own families. Many German Jewish woman were expected to work and remain active, often with many different occupations throughout their life. Gluckel was vowed to Chayim Hameln at the age of twelve by her parents, and was married at the age of 14; somewhat uncommon with women in Northern Europe but not unheard of with moderately successful Jewish families. Gluckel assisted Chayim in his business ventures and often became a key figure in the operation. From an early age Gluckel was competent and determined; her potential
Asha, I agree that Baba was no longer viewed as a perfect man after Amir found out the news, but I also disagree that Amir doubted the relationship between his father from the time he started to see the differences. When Amir was very young he found his love for books and that he was considered weak and cowardly, while his father loved to watch, talk about sports, and was known as a strong, courageous man. These differences were the beginning of many that caused Amir to doubt whether he was even related to Baba. Amir and Baba did not even really have a relationship until they moved to America. With Baba and Amir living so close to each other, they were able to get to know each other. Amir was able to know Baba as a man and not the god-like person
Edwin Starr’s War, and John Lennon’s Happy Christmas, demonstrates the catastrophe created by war. Through their songs, the necessity of peace is emphasised for the future of the world. “Oh, war, I despise cause it means destruction of innocent lives, war means tears to thousands of mother’s eyes. When their sons go to fight, and lose their lives.” It is evident that the lyrical terms formulates imagery, further empowering the message. In Happy Christmas, juxtaposition has been implemented to foreshadow the bright future if war is eradicated. “A very merry Christmas, and a happy new year, let’s hope it’s a good one without any fear.” The audience is able to empathise with both of these songs, “war means tears to thousands of mother’s eyes.” This line resonates with people young and old, mothers are considered the backbone, and always guiding their children to a bright path. Someone who gave them life and should always be internally grateful for. Thus, the complete contrast of the message in the song Happy Christmas,
Tell el-‘Amarna, the city built by Heretic Pharaoh Akhenaten was located between Luxor and Cairo along the Nile. The city was occupied during the reign of Akhenaten and abandoned after his death by his son, Pharaoh Tutankhamun. Although the city was along occupied for a short period of time, archaeologists have been able to reconstruct a fairly accurate representation of the city. However, because the city was associated with Aten and the religion of the heretic king, the city was partially destroyed and nearly all evidence of the culture during the reign of Akhenaten was destroyed. Although the Egyptian people attempted to erase this pharaoh from history, the city tells the story of the time through the few pieces of art, the tombs, and the city plans. The articles written by Croker and one of the ones written by Kemp discuss the value of architecture and how it related to status within the society of the time. The other articles written by Ikram, and Kemp, Stevens, Dabbs, Zabecki, and Rose discuss the art, religion, and ritual practices. The city of Amarna was created on the basis of abandoning the old gods in favor of the worship of a single god, Aten. Societies in ancient history were based primarily on religion, and while archaeologists try to use Amarna as a basis for the study of New Kingdom Egypt because the religions changed Amarna should not be used as a template. Akhenaten aimed to abandon the old ways
Today, and in the historical setting, the leader of the Mevlevi order is a direct descendant of Jalâl ud-Dîn Rûmî, known as the Hazrat-i Chelebi . Beginning with the son of Rûmî, who first began to organize the current understanding of the Sufi order, this hereditary nature played into the role Mevlevis had in the Islamization process. Interestingly, there does not seem to be a need for mystic wisdom to be the Hazrat-i Chelebi. According to one source, “It is not necessary that the [Chelebi] be gifted with spiritual advancement.” Instead, there are two leaders, one spiritual, and the other administrative, with the Chelebi being the latter. This is important for the understanding of how the Mevlevi helped with the Islamization of Eastern
In the meantime, the song starts. With the sweet voice of Michael Jackson, we saw three important frames, in the first scene, we saw soldiers stand in behind dust, and this means they are in a war. From this scene, we can see that the war is just
