Baylor University is the oldest university in the State of Texas. Throughout its rich history, Baylor has endured many hardships. However, these hardships have only helped to strengthen the university into the successful intuition that it is today. In the early 1840’s, Union Baptist Association members discussed the establishment of a Baptist university. This discussion lead to the development of the Texas Baptist Education Society. The Texas Baptist Education Society would work hard to establish a Baptist university, no matter what struggles they encountered. Naturally, going to a University is going to be more expensive than a juco because it is a four-year college verses two. Tuition for a two year juco is 2000 dollars according to the U.S. Department of Education. This seems expensive, but when you hear a university like WSU tuition is 2900, 2000 does not seem bad. Knowing you could get the same education for the first two years at a cheaper price is useful. The dorm cost is also extremely different. WSU cost for dorms plus the meal plans can add up to over 4000 dollars a semester. On the other hand, Butler’s cost for dorm and meal plan is over 2,500 dollars a semester.
Every university has a mascot, and Texas State’s mascot is, drum roll please…. BOKO THE BOBCAT! The bobcat has been the university’s mascot, since 1921 and was named by Beth Greenlees in 1964, after winning a “Name the Bobcat” contest. Fun fact about Boko is, he has been the “USA National Champion” mascot two times. Furthermore, Texas State University is filled with traditions and legends. Texas State has many iconic landmarks, but two well-known landmarks are The Stallions and the LBJ statue. It is said that if students rub any of those two statues before an exam, they will receive good luck. Students also participate in a yearly event called, Soap Box Derby. The Soap Box derby was founded in 1967 and consists of racing homemade cars, made by student organizations, against each other. Cars begin racing from the top of a hill and are stopped by gravity and/or brakes. Texas State University, the “rising star’ of Texas, has a star that is lit up, during graduation and when athletic events are won. This tradition began in 1942, when a man found a Christmas decoration star and placed it on top of the water building. He turned it on, after
“Give me an Army of West Point graduates and I'll win a battle... Give me a handful of Texas Aggies and I'll win a war.”- George S. Patton, Jr. West Texas A&M University (WTAMU) is a school with a strong sense of pride. WTAMU is affordable, has high acceptance ratings, teaches what I want to learn, and is not far from where I live. WTAMU is the best college for me to attend to become a computer engineer.

The French made a colony in Texas but they were killed in three years by Indians. After this, Mexicans put up missions but they were abandoned in 1691 because they were running low on resources. There was no one to supply them and many of their horses died. Many rich people came to Texas back then for cotton. When Mexico won its independence from Spain it let 30,000 Anglos and 7,000 Mexicans live there.
I graduate high school in early June, I plan on attending Radford University and I plan on studying nursing as my major. Radford University seems like a perfect fit for me. Most students find it hard to transition from high school going into college. Some people are practically an adult going off into this new chapter in their lives and you have to face all that alone. Students approaching this time in their lives becoming a young adults have to figure out how you’re going to balance this new chapter of your life.

As a military wife one of my greatest duties is to support my husband while he supports our nation. That duty has led to our family having to relocate and change many aspects of our lives including which school I attend. I am thankful that that obligation is now making it possible for me to potentially attend The George Washington University. While transferring midway through a degree certainly is not ideal I do feel like this is a remarkable opportunity that I am eager to embrace. I cannot help but feel as if my journey in higher education is finally getting where it was supposed to be all along. As a teenager, I envisioned life at my age and it never involved four children and a halfway complete English degree. I had planned to attend the university in my hometown and then, after four perfect years of course, become a wonderful high school English teacher just doing what I loved every day.
Last but not least, Texas A&M has a really great cost and financial aid program for students. The In-state tuition and fees were about 10,176 dollars while out-of-state tuition and fees were about 28,768 dollars. If I was an In-state student, this would have been a great opportunity not only because of the students life and academics but also because of the tuition fees. However since I am not an In-state student, the cost is pretty expensive.
When people hear the word “college”, many panic inside at the thought. But, when I hear the word “college” I think about Illinois State University. In early July, I attended an Open House at ISU for my very first official college visit. As I stepped onto campus, I couldn’t but help to feel like it was my future home. Many aspects of the tour made me draw nearer to choosing this college after finishing my High School career. Illinois State University seems to fit my personality very well, has an amazing program for what I want to study, and is an outstanding campus for my academic strengths and weaknesses.
