We arrive from the wombs of our mothers as blank pieces of paper. Quickly, however, these blank pieces of paper are flooded with questions that directly and indirectly request you to find x. From deciding which crayon color would be most appropriate to turn the walls into our canvas to deciding which combination of friends will best allow us to enjoy ourselves yet remain productive to choosing the colleges that best fit our needs, our lives have always been filled problems that require us to find x. Through the principles of mathematics, we’re taught to search for a single definite answer to the many obstacles we are faced with. However, these obstacles are often not as simple as mathematics can be in many situations: there isn’t always a
The financial aspect of going to college can weigh on someone very much. Sometimes, to the point that some choose not to go to college for fear of cost alone. Not to mention the cost of books and other class required material.
For first year students coming straight from high school, college life can either be very exciting or overwhelming depending on how well one prepares for it. Some have the notion that college is fun and is all about partying, while some believe that it is an environment in which they can achieve the ultimate freedom thus escape the stringent rules made by their parents at home. Others look forward to experiencing a different learning environment while being exposed to different cultures and sharing different academic knowledge. Successful assimilation into college life is determined by the student’s capability to transform into the new role of a college student. Numerous students face challenges they have never experienced before which can
Today, young people live in an environment in which many judge beauty on a superficial level, overspending budget margins for college or the student cannot afford to go to college at that year. Others such as social influences of the classroom, outside of the classroom, parents and teachers can have a profound effect on the college student too. These influences often meet with the students at multiple points in their lives. It depends on the student if they ignore, embrace or follow these influences that comes to pass. Is it expected to do as the others do? The real question is if all of these specific influences and individuals alter our lives for better or worse.
The decision to attend graduate school can be one of immense commitment and responsibility. Success requires rigorous planning and well-defined goals, both short-term and long-term. Exceptional communication skills are also necessary to interact effectively with fellow classmates and faculty. Although completion of a Master’s program opens doors to many professional career opportunities, it does not come without challenges. One also must have several strategies in place for dealing with these challenges when they arise. With determination and hard work, overcoming these barriers will lead to success.
The actions that are made following High School are huge and they greatly impact the future of your life. We can attend college, enlist in the military, or go straight into the workforce. We have a plethora of options after High School. Attending college is more suitable for me than going straight into the workforce.
“Why are you even bothering to go to college? Seriously.” “There’s a party tonight. You have to be there.” One of the obstacles to academic achievement that I face on a regular basis is a lack of support in some areas of my life. Actually, sometimes it isn’t a lack of support that is the problem, but more a pervasive attitude that education isn’t that important or is a waste of time. My coworkers are happy working in retail forever, and good for them, yet seem resentful that I have made my education a priority. At times they seem bound and determined to lure me off track with invitations to parties during exam week or offers of promotions if I cut my course load. At school, many of the students in my community college courses don’t seem to
My worries about college are more in how well I will do in higher level classes and if I’ll be able to help my Family during my time in College. As a First Generation college student, I feel like my family has so much trust and high expectations for me to do well in College and graduate. I don’t feel pressured even if my family does expect a lot from me. I worry about many things like money, time, family, friends, school, and etc. I don’t worry about fitting in because I can get by with only focusing on myself and not caring about what other people think like whether they accept me or not for who I am and who I’m not. I have never had the feeling of not belonging because I’ve gone to schools where the students are not so different from me so we would all understand each other and didn’t care if someone was poor or rich, we respected and treated each other fairly. Up until High School I worry that the transition to college will be a bit challenging but nothing that I can’t handle.
What is the most dreaded topics among high school students? College. College is intimidating and frightening. However, students should be relieved to know that a home away from home can be found at the University of Missouri. The university of Missouri can also be known as Mizzou. The University of Missouri is an exceptional choice for students pursuing the medical field because of the high level of competition at the Sinclair School of Nursing, the vast variety in majors, the manageable admissions, and the intriguing campus, but one should be cautious in considering the crime rate on and around this campus.
Organization is the key to being successful in college. As a freshman, I struggled with mastering this skill, but throughout my years in college I would say that I have perfected it. One can assume, that if I had not mastered the skill of organization I would not currently have a 4.0 GPA. Along with my full time college schedule I have other responsibilities which sometimes make it hard for me to maintain my organization. However, through the use of successful time management I have been able to maintain all of my current responsibilities. My current level of responsibilities includes an internship, a part-time job, and a full time school schedule. I attend my social work classes at the University of Wisconsin Green- Bay every Tuesday and Thursday
I want to be your future generation, to make a change on your college, I want to make the difference in all those young adults that think that they cannot do things because they are afraid that someday their education would just be taken away on a day they do not even expect it. I want to enter the medical field with my head up with my grades at the top and lift them up as much as I can so one day I can be educating your children or your family members. My family is all I have in my life at this point , I come from a small town called Tuxtepec, Oaxaca, Mexico. I came to the united states when I was nine years old without having a clue of the language, having to stay the whole week after school to learn the language was not easy, I sometimes would cry because it was hard for me to understand what someone else was
Although attending a brick and mortar college is an aspiration many people experience, others may encounter trepidations or anxieties about successfully negotiating the demanding requirements of a higher education. However, students paving the way in the new frontier of online learning face unprecedented challenges in completing equivalent fields of study. Admittedly, learning to navigate through the online course was not overly difficult; nevertheless, having experienced web browser compatibility issues, it appears that one may require a bit more computer savvy than the average brick and mortar college student. Despite these minor issues, the Online Writing Lab was not only easy to navigate but was exceedingly beneficial. Additionally, this
Going to college is a big deal for some people, college usually means getting out of the town you grew up in and going on to bigger and better things in life. Some get scholarships to go to their dream college, others aren't so lucky, they have to take out student loans and get other financial aid help. There are many challenges about going to college, but money is the biggest challenge of them all. Having money is the only way to get into college or getting scholarships, but not everyone gets scholarships. If your parents do not have the money to send you to college, they have to take out student loans that you have to pay for, for the rest of your life almost. It is challenging to get into the college that you really want to go to school at if you do not have the money to put yourself through college.
These students who can use their devices operably are learning more and are disrupting the classroom less. These devices are also not the distraction it is the people using them, so if a teacher catches someone in the classroom misusing their cellphone they can just take it away from that one person. But the people using their devices should not be punished or be restricted to using their own personal devices.
In the current state of our society, the most financially satisfying jobs typically require a college degree. This becomes a problem to an individual if they choose not to attend college and try to enter the workforce right out of high school, or attend college only to later decide it is not working for them and, consequently, end up dropping out of college, possibly accumulating thousands of dollars in student loan debts but no degree. Rewind back one generation, to the parents faced with the choice of whether or not to attend college, and it is very unlikely that they are planning their future family at this point, let alone how their level of education will affect their children – the children of this generation who are now being
Within the graduate school setting, strong communication skills are vital when interacting with classmates and faculty. Perfecting communication skills in the classroom setting prepares students to communicate effectively with fellow colleagues and professionals (Fisher & Zigmond, 1996). An essential strategy to improve one’s communication skills lies in the ability to be an excellent listener. Klein (2009) asserts that effective listening involves more concentration and focus than any
