When I was 12 years old, I broke my elbow while snowboarding. After surgery the doctor said that I didn't need physical therapy, and that I could rehabilitate myself. In the 8th grade I searched the internet about how to rehabilitate my elbow, and returned it back to full health. And I found that just a simple curl with a light weight and doing circles with a light weight are the most effective way to rehabilitate an elbow. A physical therapist (PT) is defined by The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) as the treatment of injury or deformity by physical methods such as massage, heat treatment, and exercise rather than by drugs. Hirai is a the manager at a local rehabilitation hospital. He does management functions such as staffing and budgeting as well as treats patients who have been injured at work and those who have problems with persistent pain. Mr. Hirai is also a certified assessment specialist and a certified clinical instructor through the American Physical Therapy Association. Mr. Hirai stated that there are many types of physical therapy specialties but some of the more common are in outpatient, pediatric, outpatient neuro, inpatient, and sports medicine. All of these types of therapy utilize some basic principles however, utilize very different techniques. All of them have the same overall goal, but they differ by the age of their patients and they way they go about treating their patients. An outpatient physical therapist handles patients with somebody that has an injured shoulder or elbow or somebody with a long term disability. A pediatric physical therapist works with children with injuries or who were born with disabilities, for example if a child has a brain injury they would go see the pediatric physical therapist. A patient for an outpatient neuro physical therapist would be somebody that recently suffered from a stroke, brain injury, or spinal cord injury. A patient for an inpatient physical therapist would be somebody that just had surgery that was strong enough to leave the hospital but not quite strong enough for everyday life.
