Benchmark Assignment: Ethical Dilemmas
Most recently Canon City, Colorado suffered from an ethical dilemma when, hundreds of naked co-eds started showing up on the football team’s cell phones. The act of having pornography on their phones executed not only the suspension of the team, it also caused the police and courts to assess the acts as child pornography trafficking. This predicament has inspired blatant conversation between parents and the community at large.
For the purpose of this paper I would like to introduce my friend TJ. He is a Christian father and husband. He reluctantly had to admit he watches porn when his teenage son, a member of the Canon City team, confronted him on the issue. This paper will accompany the Jenson family

The social control theory in essence is a change in the social sanctions of the men in the church. The higher the sanctions the less likely a Christian man will continue with unsanctioned activities such as pornography. (Wright, 2016). The family discusses how football, church activities and other social events could take precedence over pornography in their household. Mr. and Mrs. Jenson made a commitment to be there for each other so that TJ can have a healthier sex life. By doing this Tim is learning how he can walk closer with God and still be a healthy young man who respects himself as well as his …show more content…
Also, the whole family is participating in more church activities. These steps they are taking will benefit their family and promote a healthier relationship among the family unit.
Comparison
It has been a month since the Canon City Tigers became sidelined for pornography usage. The public school had an extra burden on its hands because of the separation between church and state. It seems that anything not sanctioned by God is always more burdensome. With the help of the courts, the Canyon City teens did not face any charges associated with the incident. Nor did the school take any further action against the football team. Taken aback by the lack of results enforced by the school, the Jensons were pleased that they took the time to examine their actions and discipline Tim.
Conclusion
Thanks to his parents, Tim is now doing better in school. He is facing his consequences by sitting out the rest of the football season. When he does see his girlfriend it is at a church activity or a family event. Parental control is on all the Jenson’s devices. There isn’t any porn tucked under beds or in mislabeled dvd cases. Mr. and Mrs. Jenson are in counseling with their pastor. TJ has a new and brighter lease on life; as well as, a better relationship with his wife and son. They have all learned a valuable lesson in that a Christian needs to add a little Jesus for success in everything they
Social control is when a person unites to society that prevents them from violating rules therefore; if the bond weakens, they are free to commit delinquent acts. Travis Hirschi, a sociologist, argued that the social bond a person maintains with society contains the commitment to the pursuit of conventional activities, such as
Social control theory is critical to criminology because of the strength and impacts a relationship or bond between people have. These relationships are influenced and shaped by behavior, personality and the environment they choose to surround themselves in. Direct social control is important for children, having a healthy family relationship and role models create a balance with social control. If a society works together to create positive support for each other it helps control the crime that is once influenced by negative activities and poor role models.
It today’s society, pornography is a fast-growing epidemic that is evident in families, marriages, and teenage lifestyles. Supporters of pornography claim that it can be used as a tool to teach students about sex education. However, critics claim that pornography is unjust, influential, and dehumanizing. Pornography is unjust because it has the potential to break down intimate relationships and marriages. It can also have negative effects on children in particular young boys. More and more young boy’s minds are being influenced by pornography which is leading to misinterpretations about how to have a healthy sexual relationship. Most importantly, pornography dehumanizes women and it exploits children. Women and children are being victimized for the sheer pleasure of someone viewing pornography.
They met in middle school here at Jefferson. She didn't like him at the time because Tim came to school smelling like manure and she thought farmers were gross. When high school came, they dated for a very long time. They are married now. She has influenced him in more than a few ways. One of the ways she impacted Tim was, she helped make him the best he could be. She influenced him to stay in school and she also keeps an eye out for him. She is his partner in crime. A second impact in Tim's childhood, was his brother, Ted. When he and his siblings were all around middle school age, all the boys had to help move a few of the farm tractors to Tim's farm. Ted didn't want to help that day, but Tim needed his help. He told him he had to and so Ted listened. When Ted was driving the tractor, he took too hard of a turn. It tipped over and he passed away. This impacted Timothy a lot. He blamed the accident all on him and has still yet to forgive himself. He doesn't break out of his shell very often anymore to have a good time because of what happened around 20 years ago. He has gone to a medium with his wife, Lindsey to talk to Ted. Ted told him to have fun more often and play jokes on his family. He even told him to get a tattoo. Tim's third impact was his Grandpa Cota. His grandpa taught him how to do everything on the farm. His grandpa was the person that inspired him to become a farmer and own his own farm. Tim's grandpa was one of the biggest people in Tim's life growing up. His Grandpa Cota was his inspiration and role
The pornification (or alternatively pornographication) of the social world has created lasting effects in the lives of people that they must deal with every day (Dines 1998, p. 164). Pornification is the process by which the social and cultural world is sexualised. This occurs through the expansion of media technology and the pornography industry, as well as changes in media regulations and restrictions which allow pornographic imagery to intrude into public spaces (Tyler 2011, p. 79). This essay will offer explanations for why the pornification of the social world is occurring, how the phenomenon differs from a freedom of expression issue and is instead considered a sociological issue, what consequences and harm arise from these explanations, and will offer social measures that can be adopted in order to deal with the issue. Pornification has occurred in almost every realm of the social world, including in its unaltered form on the Internet, social media, marketing, advertising, music, fashion, sport, and art. However, this expansion of easily accessible pornified content is a stark and confronting challenge for our social world.
A full functional analysis of Leader X’s feeling, thoughts, events and behaviors both preceding and following his use of pornography will be conducted. As well as exploring the function that pornography is playing in his life. By doing this I will be able to determine what is causing Leader X to use pornography, for example if he is using it to escape stress or using it as a way to feel better about himself or even as a way to escape from a situation. Leader X will be taught stimulus control strategies which will involve destroying and removing all pornography he has and in addition to this he will be taught how to use imagery. By teaching Leader X imagery he will he will be equipped with a way to survive his urges to use pornography as well as learn that if he resists his urges they will subside.
Dr. Mark Lasser’s book “Healing the Wounds of Sexual Addiction” gives hope for those who are in the throes of sexual addiction and those who suffer with them. Laaser feels that this book is important because of the pain and desperation that he experienced from sexual addiction; he now wants to share what he has learned about the power of the Lord and healing. In this book he relates how sexual addiction has grown to epidemic proportions (Laaser, 2004, pp.17). The Internet has been the source of much of that growth, with a bevy of materials of a sexual nature being readily available to everyone with computer access. The Internet has just what they are looking for in the form of pornography for sexual
People in today’s society want to blame everything that happens on someone. If there is no discernable culprit, mob mentality will take over and that mob will eventually point the blame toward someone or something. Regardless of whether or not that person is truly to blame. Julie Amero fell victim to this. As a substitute teacher Julie was entrusted to look after a 7th grade class. When she noticed the class crowded around a computer she went to investigate. What she saw on the screen appalled and frightened her. Popup after popup of pornography littered the screen. Every time she closed one window another would open. It wasn’t until she turned off the screen and sent the children away that that children stopped seeing all of these images. When the parents of the children in the class caught wind of this, they immediately went to the principle. The parents did not stop there, they called the police whom eventually arrested and indicted Julie Amero with four counts of Risking injury to a minor, which can carry maximum sentence of 20 years.
The social control theory suggests that individuals all have the potential to violate the law and that modern society presents many opportunities for illegal activity. It bases itself off of self control, a strong moral sense that renders a person incapable of hurting others or violating social norms. Isn’t it true, then, that other’s define morals differently and in a different manner, therefore defining their own sense of self control?(Much like the functionalist disadvantage that not everyone has the same beliefs!) For example, self control to me would be to refrain from quitting my part time nanny job due to the amount of stress it places on myself and my immediate relationships. Self control to someone else would be to refrain from stealing money from their place of
“ethical dilemmas are commonplace, complex, and require critical thinking skills that are honed through practice, and practice, and more practice. Airth-Kindree, N. M., & Kirk horn, L. C. (2016).
Thesis – Multiple outlooks have been taken on the ethics of pornography, and the means by which it may either negatively influence power in sexuality, or actually provide some sort of social value and worth. These different ethical perspectives display the flaws in the industry and what it represents; yet they also end up proving the fact that it can be modified with positive influence and that pornography is not something to be deemed utterly unethical.
Pornography is an ethical decision that many people face every day. In this ethical dilemma, TJ enjoys masturbating to internet pornography inside his house
Child pornography has been present in society for centuries, but has only recently become more accessible through the development of the printing press and subsequently, the technology of the Internet. Until the mid-1990s, "illegal child pornography [had only] involved depictions of actual children engaged in sexually explicit
In an era where internet and social media dominate, there must be a consideration of legal issues concerning privacy rights. But where is the line drawn when it may be associated with the sexual exploitation of youth? R. v. Barabash, 2015 SCC 29 [Barabash] is a circumstantial case that centres on concerns of privacy rights involving private use, child pornography, as well as regarding the establishments of exploitation and consent. Barabash involved two fourteen year old girls who were runaways, dependant on drugs and involved in prostitution. According to Statistics Canada (2008) at the time of this case, youth aged 12 to 14 were twice as likely to experience sexual violence then that of young adults, this statistic was even higher if the victim is female (Sexual Assault, para. 4). While they were staying with two significantly older men they were involved in sexual activity that was videotaped and photographed. Under s.163.1(2) of the Criminal Code the men were charged for making child pornography as well as the older man was charged with possession of child pornography under s. 163.1(4). While the trial judge found all elements of the offences were established, the accused raised in defence the private use exception outlined in R. v. Sharpe, 2001 SCC 2 [Sharpe], which the judge failed to disprove beyond a reasonable doubt. Through theoretical and legal frameworks this paper will analyze the defence of private use through objective analysis with reference to
In recent years, pornography has established itself as perhaps the most controversial topic arising out of the use of the Internet. The easy availability of this type of sexually explicit material has caused a panic among government officials, family groups, religious groups and law enforcement bodies and this panic has been perpetuated in the media.
