Animals have played a big part in my life, I have always had some sort of animal ever since I was born. Growing up I've had dogs, hamsters and fish and I have loved all of them deeply. Veterinarians must hold a doctoral degree in veterinary medicine, pass a national licensing examination and meet any other state-specific requirements for licensing or certification. They must complete and participate in a four year Doctor of Medicine (DMV) program. Some of the courses that are in the DMV program are; Animal behavior, Veterinary pharmacology, Animal Nutrition, Clinical Pathology, Large and Small animal medicine, Diagnostic Imaging, Anesthetic and Surgery principles. Veterinarians in training will usually complete rotations of Cardiology, Dentistry, Oncology, and or Equine care. Growing up, I always asked myself, should I become a veterinarian? My family owned several of pets - especially only cats and dogs. I wasn’t satisfied with cats and dogs. I often begged my parents to own a bunny, a hamster, a gecko, or even a horse! My parents always declined. Instead, I often went to museums and state parks visitors center just to learn about animals. I also watched television shows related to animals. I found living things fascinating. I tend to go wandering outdoors. I would search, catch frogs, and watch any critters scramble or fly by. Also, snakes and spiders even never bothered me. I would do anything to learn about animals. This made me think that I’m worthy of being a veterinarian.
A question that after years of experience, the answer remains uncertain. What do you want to be when you grow up? From a photographer to fashion designer, I regularly had a response, but it was never the same. I was all over the place without a passion that could lead me to be thrilled with my future. Until I found it within my backyard: my pet. I have a passion for animals and trying to save them. As a child, my parents wouldn’t approve of keeping every stray I see as of the result, I felt powerless to save the strays; so I decided the only I can save them is by becoming a veterinarian.
