An equivalent solution to solve the issue of under focused fine arts programs includes organizing a school’s current instruction time more efficiently within the school day. Schools could achieve efficiently using a combination of course integration and more planned and punctual lesson plans. Class time of Core subjects normally take precedent over arts classes and non Core subjects. Maximizing instructional time for all subjects would benefit the students and schools, despite the high cost it would require (Davis). It is sensible to spend time on funded areas, but is also important for students to receive a balanced education. Conversely, increasing this amount of time in extracurricular activities would take away time from other prioritized extracurriculars like volunteering, sports, or school sponsored clubs. At any rate, schools need to reconsider classroom time management and make it more efficient. Alternatively, schools could equalize time to the school day or year and would allow more instruction time for school subjects, from fine arts and science to math and reading. Longer days would allow for either longer periods or more classes, which could be used to consistently expose students to fine arts and improve their abilities within it. If the US adds length to the school day there could be more time for fine arts classes, as well as Core subjects. There are already schools in the US that do this. A newspaper published information about the Volusia schools in Florida, adding one hour to their school day. Within seven years they saw a dramatic improvement in English- Language Arts (ELA), reading, science, and math. Their scores improved twice as fast as other schools who had shorter days (Schachter). A longer school day would bring an educational equilibrium, as Core subjects would be taught for the same amount of time as fine arts, sciences, and gym. This equilibrium would allow for more instructional time and give students an equal and balanced education.
