Beowulf and Achilles are both heroes that have been in many battles in they time on this world but they were very different types of heroes with very different traits that made them heroes. Beowulf was self-less, fights fate, and calm will on the other hand Achilles was hot tempered, accepts fate, and selfish. Even with all the things that are different between them they had one big thing that both of them had braver which was one of the things you need to be a good hero. First let’s talk about Beowulf his traits are that he is self-less, fights fate, and calm. He show that he self-less when he go to help the king with his monster when it is not his home land . he fight his fate when he go to fight with a dragon and dose it alone when he
ethics, is great warrior, and is very loyal to his master. Beowulf is also rewarded for his deeds
Beowulf, a brave warrior, displays characteristics that influenced a positive attitude toward his people. Beowulf’s bravery and loyalty were two characteristics that influenced his people. Arrogance was another characteristic shown by Beowulf. However Beowulf’s arrogance showed a negative effect on the Danes. His arrogance was not as prevalent as his bravery or his loyalty but it still threw off his positive characteristics.
What do Achilles, King Arthur, Harry Potter, and Beowulf all have in common? They all demonstrate the qualities of epic heroes. Beowulf represents several characteristics of an epic hero and demonstrates the values of the Anglo-Saxons. He is the main character of his story, he has a main goal, he travels and fights with a group of people, and he accomplishes many valorous deeds; the values of the Anglo-Saxons are also shown through the actions of Beowulf, such as courage, loyalty, and fame. For example, when Beowulf heard a cry for help in a far off land, he answered. He fought larger than life monsters, and won. His exceptional strength proves his epic courage and heroism.
The first trait Beowulf shows off is his bravery. He shows his bravery by traveling across the ocean to ask the Danes if he and his men can go out and defeat the terrorizing monster Grendal. In the poem Beowulf goes to the King of the Danes and says “… Grendal and I are called/ Together, and I’ve come. Grant me, then,/ Lord and protector of this noble place,/ A single request! … That I, alone and with the help of my men,/ May purge all evil
Beowulf possessed great strength that separated him from other men. Being able to use a sword that no ordinary man was able to carry gives the feeling that Beowulf is something more than a human being. It makes him special and causes him to stand out from all other men. Fame is something that makes a hero more noted. Beowulf’s popularity
The next characteristic that Beowulf had that showed how he was an Anglo-Saxon hero is his superhuman strength. One quote that shows this characteristic is, “Follower and the Strongest of the Geats-greater and stronger than anyone anywhere in
Beowulf and Achilles were both good warriors and won many battles. They were also both leaders of their kingdoms or tribes. They were both half man and half god so they were very strong. Achilles liked to show off and get more praise for what he did but Beowulf was more humble than Achilles. Achilles was driven by his emotions and did what his mind told him to do before thinking about it first. Both of them would take their enemy's body or a body part and hang it up or display it as a trophy for winning the battle.
Beowulf is a hero in the eyes of his fellow men through his amazing physical strength. He fought in numerous battles and returned victorious
Just the way they take care of their business is completely different but very interesting. They are also strong but in different areas. Bravery is something that most heroes in our society have to have. Beowulf has so much bravery it’s crazy you could tell he was meant to be a warrior from the day he was born. I think Beowulf has so much bravery because just the way he carries himself.
Character traits are important to literary elements because they help the reader get an understanding of who they are reading about. Beowulf is a part of a medieval tribe called the Geats (Shmoop… Beowulf), he is represented as a heroic figure who puts everyone else’s safety before his own. He was willing to risk his life in order to save the city of Herot from the evil monster Grendel, who feeds off of the citizens. “That mighty protector of men Meant to hold the monster till its life Leaped out” (Beers #23). In this excerpt from Beowulf, Beowulf is fighting the monster Grendel in the town of Herot. He is risking his life to save all the citizens he possibly can from this monster who tortures this town daily. “Grendel escaped, But wounded as he was could flee to his den, Only to die, to wait for the end Of all his days.” (Beers #24). Beowulf was able to defeat Grendel after putting up a hard fight. Grendel flees from Herot back to his home to die. The morning after the victory the townspeople cheered on Beowulf (Shmoop… Beowulf) for saving them and honored his bravery for
In the book Beowulf, Beowulf, the main character, is a man of great strength and ability. He is depicted as a man of wisdom, and that he is a prince that comes from a kingdom that is well respected. He fights many battles, and is seen as a hero with glory to his name, but this does not mean that he is as flawless as he seems to be. Beowulf is a man who desires to help those in need, however, he is greedy for the glory and treasure that he will receive in thanks of his success. He is truly confident, but because of this he is impulsive, never questioning his ability to take on a task. He is also brave, he has almost no fear, but this tends to make him reckless. He is a hero to many, but he believes in himself in such a way that he acts foolishly, and it will eventually be the death of him.
Beowulf exhibits many obvious heroic qualities, such as his strength and confidence in battle. These along with more subtle diplomatic actions serve to define him as both a great warrior and leader.
These two characters made incredible actions that influenced that their names were remember for a long time; Beowulf looks like any other warrior, he followed the code of a great warrior and also the code of the heroes, things that just a few people used to do but Beowulf had and special kind to be he was arrogant because he know the strong that he had and he did crazy things that always at the final those actions looks very intelligent for example when he fought with grandal, he decided to fight without armor because he wanted a right fight without to have advantage everybody thought that he was crazy but at the final they saw that it was very intelligent because grendel was immune to weapons so he only could be affected by normal hits like punch or kicks that was what Beowulf did. Achilles had a unique kind to be it was similar to the kind to be of Beowulf but it was not equal; Achilles was arrogant too but the difference between Beowulf and Achilles was that Achilles was more arrogant and he never did things that will not benefit to him in something.
The first way in which both characters are similar is in the fact that they both travel from great distances to take part in a battle against some evil. In the medieval Germanic epic, Beowulf leaves his people the Geats of Scandinavia to help Hrothgar, the king of the Danish people, to kill Grendel, a monster who attacks the king's hall and devours the king's men. Beowulf slays Grendel but then must challenge Grendel's mother in order to restore Hrothgar's kingdom to safety. Likewise, Achilles joins the other Greeks and travels to Troy to do battle against Paris, Hector and the other Trojans for having abducted Helen, the wife of Menelaus. Achilles performs many heroic deeds on the battleground and adds renown to his name among the Greeks.
Beowulf and The Iliad are both famous works of literature that have been studied for hundreds of years. Both Beowulf and Achilles are great heroes in their Epics. An important component of these Heroic Epics are their heroes and their how the act. Beowulf always exhibits the traits that would make him an epic hero, and would never do anything dishonorable or that wasn not for the benefit of everyone around him, while Achilles had moments that made him look dishonorable and not heroic. Overall, Beowulf is the better hero because he never gave up and fought for God, while Achilles refused to fight and disrespected Greek traditions such as respecting fallen foes.
