In “Why 2017 was the Best Year in Human History” Nicholas Kristof argues that, despite anything negative that happened, 2017 was the best year for humans as a species. More specifically, Kristof argues that it is better to live in 2017 than any other time period in history. He writes “A smaller share of the world’s people were hungry, impoverished or illiterate than at any time before. A smaller proportion of children died than ever before. The proportion disfigured by leprosy, blinded by diseases like trachoma or suffering from other ailments also fell.” Kristof is suggesting that 2017 was a year of increase for the human species. In conclusion, Kristof’s belief is that 2017 was a exceptionally great year.
In my view Kristof is right about
Our human history has affected us greatly, Teddy Roosevelts speech talks about the Nile and Euphrates River. We migrated from there to America. How back then we would hunt for food now we just go to a grocery store. We are supposedly safer but it’s really more dangerous. We didn’t have that much technology back then but we have so much now. An example would be in Black Panther the technology they have that no one else has. We used to use natural resources and we would be fine but now we use the natural resources up for the technology we have
Things that happened years ago have all changed to nowadays; either by a few changes but still very similar or dramatically changed in a positive way.
The social and demographic changes of the last century led to the increased growth and aging of the population by transitioning and evolving with time. Back in the 19th and early 20th century, the world was not as advanced as it now. We now have better medicines, vaccines, technology, health care and opportunities to seek assistance.
Even though it did not completely end discrimination in America, the history surrounding World War II and the Civil Rights Movement was one of our nation’s most defining eras. The equality of the country had never been focused on more than it was during this time. Segregation laws, also known as Jim Crow laws, were eradicated as a result, thus ending a long shameful period in US history. Or, at least starting its decline. Religious and ethnic intolerance shifted to more tolerance among Americans during and after the second world war when soldiers learned to get along to achieve the common goal of ending the reign of terror spread by the evil
There are a lot of reasons 2017 will be great. I get to play hockey, have great friends I can trust, and have time for everything else! There are honestly too many reasons for just one essay, so there will only be a few.
Arthur Asher Miller lived through some of the best and the worst times in the United States’ young history. He was born on October 17, 1915, in the middle of World War 1, when the American economy was booming and the standard of living had increased throughout the nation. Miller had two siblings, an older brother and a younger sister. Miller’s mother was a teacher at a public school and his father was a manufacture of women’s coats in New York City (Nelson 13).
Freshman year could definitely be the worst year of High School when it comes to your social life. This is the year where you can expand your friends to more than just people in your grade. This year is also a sad year because it is when you find out who your real friends are. High School is all about gaining new friends and losing what you thought were your friends. When I started my freshman year all I heard when I started was that your real friends will show and you fake friends will vanish. In my case this did not happen. Yes, when I got into Highschool I did grow farther apart to some of my friends, but I would never say that they have vanished from my life or anything like that.
"August 2026: there will come soft rains" relates to documentary "Life after people" in where it is explained how the evolution of our actions to survive can harm us very deeply and may even lead to our self-destruction, as it is quoted in the documentary "we're the first generation that could by deliberate actions cause it's own
George H.W. Bush deserves to be named “Person of the Decade”. He worked hard to follow his own beliefs in what was the right thing to do and achieved amazing things because of that. When dealing with the Soviet Union and Mikhail Gorbachev he established his own methods and plan instead of following Raegan’s. Soon after his plan was established things in Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union began to change. The berlin wall collapsed and the communist rule through out Eastern Europe was overthrown. Bush chose to let all of these events happen naturally, cautious not to do anything to make Gorbachev’s position any worse. Bush had the policy review complete and decided to meet with Gorbachev. While in the meeting they laid the basis for completing
Now people are free to think what they want and to learn whatever they like. Our new society is totally reliant on the books we read and not the technology we possess like before. We have been given a second chance to start a new society that will prosper for ages to come.
In “Why 2017 Was the Best Year in Human History,” Nicholas Kristof explains why 2017 was on of the best years in history. More specifically, Kristof argues that each year is getting better and less people are dying. He writes, “A smaller share of the world’s people were hungry, impoverished or illiterate than at any time before.” Additionally, Kristof adds, “...the lives of more than 100 million children have been saved by vaccinations, diarrhea treatment, breast-feeding promotion and other simple steps.” Although there are these positives there are also negatives that we have faced in 2017. For example, Kristof says, “So, sure, the world is a dangerous mess; I worry in particular about the risk of a war with North
Birth and Death Rates: During this period, there are high birth rates compared to death rates following the end of the world wars. Peace is slowly coming in the country thus encouraging women to bear children once more.
Whom will you choose to be your and the world's greatest president? I have chosen one whom can change the world for everyone. He will help with everything that makes this country struggle. My president will be friendly to all, protect with superior defense, and help with citizens. Here are accomplishments that a president must have to make their country the best of all is to help it improve. That means he or she should not put us in any wars. If they do they should be smart about it.
Nevertheless the author does put some negative, harmful events that counteract his statement that “Why 2017 Was the Best Year in Human History” for example, he uses “ rising risk of nuclear war with North Korea, the paralysis in Congress”;”So, sure, the world is a dangerous mess; I worry in particular about the risk of a war with North Korea.”, But he did add in his article all the good that 2017 did bring but the inadequate overpowered the
The last generation of people born in 1995 are known as Omegas. They are arrogant and proud to be the youngest people on Earth. They will soon reach their thirties and they will no longer be kids. The rest of the population are old and will eventually die. All the toys, except for dolls (used for desperate women) and babies clothes were burnt. There is crime and discrimination. Schools are closed. Adult education is the only form of formal education at the time. Nobody cares about politics. It is not the main concern since there will be no government in fifty years from that moment.
