In the film Soul Surfer, the storytellers shows the archetypes of the sea, best friend, and mentor and how these reveal we as humans have hope because without it we will give up on the dreams we want to achieve. Suffering from a shark attack and losing 70% of her blood Bethany not only taught others how to surf, but surfed herself and regained hope about how she can still achieve her goal of winning the national title. From the beginning of the film and throughout the film, Soul Surfer, Sarah Hill shows a best friend because of how she never let’s Bethany give up her dream based on how bad her given situation is. As Bethany cries into Sarah’s arms about how her dream is all over Sarah tells Bethany how god will make this situation good again.

Tina Robbins has always said she would like another child. She wants a child with down syndrome. The reason is because down syndrome kids are usually very nice and their brain tells them to be nice. Tina has worked at head start for 8 years. While she worked there she was an assistant teacher, who dealt with the kids who had down syndrome. It has given her a special bond. She says, “If any of my kids have a child with down syndrome, the minute they have it at the hospital I will take it. The only time they can see it is if they visit, because I have always wanted a child with down syndrome of my own.” This is information found about down syndrome. When going through life, everyone needs a person that will be there with them every step of the way. A person to lean on to overcome the hard times and someone to rejoice with when life is at its highest moments. Thankfully for me, that particular person came to be a minute before I came into this world. My twin sister Kayla Skye Horton is truly my other half in life for an endless amount of reasons. However, due to the fact of time being a determinant in every aspect of life, there are qualities that my Kayla possesses that outshine the others.

Bethany Hamilton was a world class surfer who won many surfing awards. She started surfing at age five, and was already in the most elite competitions by age 13. But, as she ran towards the ocean and shoved off from her board on Halloween 2003, her life would change forever. A tiger shark could ahold of her arm, and tugged with all his might. She had not felt any pain, but pressure. “With a strange calmness, Bethany stared at the stump on her shoulder where her arm used to be.” (Shark Attack Survivor).

Bethany Hamilton is a brave surfer who survived a shark attack and faced her fears to continue doing what she loves. She was born in Kauai in 1990 and started surfing when she was 4 years old. At the age of 8, she got a gold medal in her first competition and since then she would have the first place in every championship she took part of. She was so talented that she could do amazing tricks that surfers her age couldn’t. Therefore, she had Rip Curl as a sponsor. However, in 2003 she was laying on her surfboard with her left arm underwater and a tiger shark bit it. Luckily, she was accompanied by her friends, so they helped her to get to the beach. Although she had a tremendous fear, Bethany didn’t hesitate in returning to the waves

Bethany Hamilton was one of Hawaii’s young surfers. She first stared surfing at five years old. She also won many major surf contests. She had the talent to be a great surfer and surf any wave. After the terrifying shark attack, Bethany Hamilton demonstrated resilience by overcoming the tragedy to achieve her surfing dream.
