Throughout the bible, there are many people in scripture that God placed in leadership roles. Jesus, David, Moses, Paul, Peter, Abraham and many others are some of those leaders. There are core attributes discussed in the lecture that personally reflect my opinion of what an effective leader of Christ needs such as, a shared vision, model of the way, empowerment of others, challenge of the process, and encouragement of the heart.

The prompt of this assignment is to discuss, in detail, a person we consider to be a leader and explain how and why he or she is. The leader that I chose is Reverend Dr. Johnnie Mae Cooper. She is the leader of quite of few things. For example, she is the leader of several organizations, which consist of being the founder and overseer of her own church (St. Esther Temple Bible Church), various religious and spiritual conferences, workshops, bible study courses, as well as metaphysical classes. She’s the type of woman who will tell you exactly what the spirit of God says. I know because I have been witness to it and seen her work. She is the type of person who does not have much patience for those that are un-attentive; however, she pays close attention and dedicates herself to helping those who desire to help themselves.

Understanding a person’s life and struggles helps explain his or her character and leadership qualities. Smallwood E. Williams was born on October 17, 1907 in Virginia. He moved to Columbus, Ohio with his mother and stepfather when he was only eleven years old. Williams lost his father when he was an infant (Taylor 50). Upon moving to Columbus in 1918, his mother joined Bishop Robert Lawson’s Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith (COOLJC) and began taking Williams there every Sunday. A few years later, at age fourteen, Williams started preaching at the church while attending school. In fact, people started calling him “Boy-Wonder Preacher” mainly after his travel to New York City to preach at Lawson’s Refuge Church of Christ

Our world is filled with many successful leaders. The gift of being a leader can be learned; however some individuals have a natural born talent to be a leader. Each leader has his or her own unique leadership style. The gift of being a leader can be learned. Certain individuals are born with a charismatic style and can easily be a leader. A successful leader is one who can inspire and motivate people towards a goal. Martin Luther King Jr. was an individual with a born gift to lead people. While the world is full of Christians, few actually take this commissioning seriously. It is regarded as impractical or even impossible.
