CONTRIBUTION OF BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERS FOR MAN
According to Kenneth R. Foster (2012),"Biomedical engineering is presently undergoing explosive growth. The field began when engineers partnered with physicians to develop solutions to medical problems. At the same time, biomedical engineers are still making important contributions for country.” However, there are still Malaysians who have no idea about biomedical engineering which is an essential field unlike other countries such as USA, Japan and Singapore. This is because our country has not focused and progressed in this field. Thus, government has to put effort on the field of biomedical engineering as biomedical engineering can to improve the quality of lives of the handicapped, change the

What is meant by health care system? Health care system consists of all organizations, people and actions where the main aim is to restore, maintain and promote good health. According to Abraham Lee (2011), “Biomedical engineering combines engineering expertise with medical needs for the enhancement of health care. It is a branch of engineering in which knowledge and skills are developed and applied to define and solve problems in biology and medicine.” There are some aspects of health care system are altering. Firstly, biomedical engineers act as consultants in the selection and use of medical equipment because they have the knowledge on the principles and the functions of equipment. Secondly, they also supervise its performance testing and maintenance. Therefore, medical devices can be operated optimally with their guidance. Thirdly, they build customized devices for special health care or research. For instance, insulin pump is used to maintain the blood glucose level in the normal range for patients with diabetes mellitus. In addition, biomedical engineers also combine an understanding of advanced technology with direct patient care and clinical research for invention which are for maintaining the health, diagnosis of disease and treatment. Medical devices such as laser therapy devices are powerful tool for cancer treatment. Biomedical engineers have dedicated their contribution in the health care
In today’s generation technology is the key point in all of our lives. With all those new technological inventions a huge percent of those inventions refer to the medical field.
The healthcare field gives you job stability as well as security. The world is becoming very dependent upon technology especially in the healthcare field. Technology gives health care professional the chance to take care of patients more quickly and
One of the only medical professions that can lend you a hand, seriously, in a Biomedical Engineering career, I will be able to lend you a hand. There are several job opportunities in Biomedical Engineering, which tie together to provide needed care for patients. The typical job duties for biomedical engineers are to design products, such as artificial limbs for people who need them, artificial internal organs, and machines for diagnosing medical problems. They also install equipment, maintain, and repair the equipment as needed. (www.truity.com) These assets provided are the designing portion of this career. There is also research that has to be done, and that is where biomedical engineers work with different scientist, and chemists to research and understand the engineering details of the biological systems of the human body. A biomedical engineers job may also be spread between many professional fields.
This is highly important because having a strong understanding about it enable leaders to fix problems in the system and favor the population. Similarly, a very changing and complex healthcare system requires constant learning about it to increase the quality of the service given to the patients. New regulations or changes in favor of the patients can help to prevent and increase the incidence of serious or chronic diseases in the population, this cannot be possible if the people in charge and related to the functioning of the healthcare system does not understand
Worldwide, there has always been a plethora of issues concerning whether animals should or should not be used for biomedical research. There are some advocating for the best and most-advanced medicine for the people; with disregard for the animal’s health. They believe people’s needs should be the first concern. However, others put the animal’s health first. If the animal is not in safe conditions, then it does not matter what medicine advances might be discovered. Biomedical research is defined as “The application of the natural sciences, especially the biological and physiological sciences, to clinical medicine” (“Biomedicine.” Dictionary.com, Dictionary.com, www.dictionary.com/browse/biomedical.). Without biomedical research on animals, modern medicine would not exist. Animal testing has enabled the findings of treatments for cancer, antibiotics for infections, and preventatives for illnesses. For these reasons, animal testing should be used in the process of developing biomedical research.
Hi Whitney! I have to agree with you that health system come together to improve health. Its goal is to deliver the safest and effective health intervetions to the people's need. Health workforce need to work in harmony and delivers information need to health status and system, by providing safe medical products, vaccines, and technologies and fund health program and protect the population from financial harm. Of course, through proper governance of the health
A healthcare system is any type organization of institutions, people and resources that are there to provide a healthcare to the population. In any country healthcare system is very important because the quality of life, productivity of the country and life expectancy is determined by the country's healthcare system. Each country has a different healthcare system that is suitable for population. Most of the country has a Universal healthcare system while some of them have a single payer healthcare system. Different governments run different types of healthcare system. Every healthcare system has own strength and weakness. Among the country that
An estimated 25 million or more animals are used yearly in the U.S. These animals are commonly used in biomedical research as “models” for human disease, they are also used in basic biomedical research which is research for general understanding. Not only are animals used in biomedical research but, behavioral research as well, such as psychology and addiction studies, military, space, and agricultural research, product development and drug testing, as well as science education. Animals shouldn’t be used for such testing, these tests are unethical, inhumane and completely unnecessary. Thousands of animals suffer and die every day in laboratories around the world. In most states, abuse or cruelty towards animals is illegal. A person can face up to 7 years in prison and a fine of maximum $235,600. If it is illegal for cruelty to be conducted on animals why does it make it okay in the name of science?
Technology permeates every domain of critical care and has contributed to rising survival rates. The technological innovation grew out of boundaries, changing all industries involved. In health care, the advancement in science and technology play an important role in almost all process from patient registration to data monitoring, from lab tests to self-care.
Health care systems are organizations that are formed to meet the overall health needs of the population. Health care is regarded as one of the leading cause in promoting not only physical and mental health but the well-being of the population. Legislation is implemented requiring government to offer services to all members of its society. The role of health services and the organizations that provide aid is to focus on the health of an individual and to uphold their human rights. According to WHO (2013), a “well-functioning health care system requires a robust financing mechanism, a well-trained and adequately-paid workforce, reliable information on which to base decisions and policies, and well maintained facilities and logistics to deliver quality medicines and technologies (World Health Organization; 2013).
What if we could eliminate the ever growing transplant list in America? What if we could cure diabetes and eradicate the increasing issue of heart disease? Biomedical engineering holds the possibilities of solutions that were unfathomable before this type of research opened its doors. Imagine giving a person with Trencher-Collins syndrome a new ear - giving them the life they rightfully deserves. Imagine creating new organs with no possibility of rejection, giving a new prospect for life for those who have suffered.
The biomedical model focuses on the physical or biological aspects of disease and illness. It is more common in western countries of how health care professionals diagnosis and treat patients. The bio-medical use scientific and technological advances to make a cure for many diseases. The issue with the biomedical model is the lack of emphasis on the social, cultural, and other factors that can influence health. There is research supporting the idea that poverty, ethnicity, age, gender, and disability can impact healthcare treatments.However. since the biomedical model ignores this, it causes many people not to have a health care intervention that is relevant to them. The biomedical model use of controlled trials and biomedical evidence give u the best information on the cause of illness or disease. For a medical professional this can be very helpful when working with people with different diseases. Having a better understanding how a disease progress, and how it can affect someone can be useful when coming up with prevention treatments. The information from these controlled trials will be implied to make the best plan of care for a patient. Without the bio-medical model, the advancement in medical treatment will be very slow. The bio-medical model helps to support the professionals with the tools, and information they need to give better treatment to their patient, leading to a better health. However, the biomedical model may not always be beneficial for the patient. This
Systems engineering focuses on coordination, synchronization, and integration of complex systems of personnel, information, materials, and financial resources. This is achieved through the application of mathematical modeling and analysis techniques.. Although drawing direct parallels between other economic sectors and health care delivery is problematic, many functions common to both have been significantly improved in other sectors through engineering analysis. These include inventory control and logistics, scheduling, operations management, project planning, facilities design, process flow analysis, resource synchronization, engineering economic analysis, and many others. It is beleived that these engineering approaches, properly modified and applied, can provide similar high-level impacts in health care delivery.
Take a second, and imagine your life as a teenager, fresh out of college with, aspiring to get a degree in whatever your heart desires. You’ve got lots of ambition and potential. The world is at your fingertips; you can do anything you set your mind to. But one day, tragedy strikes and the unthinkable happens: you lose a limb. Why is not important, but what the future entails is. Let’s say this limb is your right arm, the one you have used all your life to write, eat, type and play the guitar. Now let’s change the scenario a little bit. Instead you’ve lost your legs in a horrific car accident where both were crushed under the weight of the dashboard as your car collided with the 4x4 in front of you. You wake up the next day in the hospital groggy, barely remembering what happened. Shock is the only thing running through your mind the moment you look down to see your legs missing. Your brain thinks they’re still there because yesterday you were just getting out of bed for your morning jog. All that remains are the stubs where your legs used to be and the unbearable thought of being confined to a motorized chair for the rest of your life.
The world is round and climate change is real. Present Obama was born in the United States and the September 11th Terrorist attacks were not an inside job. We actually did on the land on the Moon, the government is not trying to control us through chemical trails, and social psychology is vital for a patient’s health and wellness. The human mind and psyche are a powerful force of nature with robust and unwavering effects. Beyond controlling every aspect of our behaviour, our psychology and unique psychological experiences distinctly affects every medical or health-related issue we will experience in our lives.
