I chose this activity for a multiple of reasons. I chose to watch a movie as one of the activities listed because seeing a film like “Black Hawk Down”, really helps me learn more and helps me comprehend the concept rather than reading about it for say. It helps me to make more connections as well rather than reading about it. When deciding what movie I should pick I looked to see what each movie was about and “Black Hawk Down” appealed to me the most. I really enjoy movies that have to do with war. Also, I could tell by the area the war was happening in it would make it even more appealing.

It is easy to say that the culture is much different but the movie really shows the differences in tactics and military skill and how the personalities of both sides of the soldiers is really different. I saw a huge difference in the way both armies handled themselves and how they approached the situation.Seeing some of the things that went on during the movie showed how serious and dangerous war really is between two
In addition, most of the new inexperienced soldiers died during combat since they were too foolish to know how to fight a war. In addition, the film did not contradict anything we have learned in class, as well as, notes and knowledge because of how historically accurate it
The film has many characters that actually made a difference in history. Four major characters were Colonel Robert Gould Shaw, Pvt. Trip, Sgt. Maj. John Rawlins and Cpl. Thomas Searles. Colonel Shaw served as the Commander of the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. He also serves as great leader to his troops. Pvt. Trip was a soldier of the 54th Regiment. Seen to other soldiers as a smart mouth trouble maker because of his background. Sgt. Maj. John Rawlins started as a grave digger for wars then moved up to a non-commissioned officer. After volunteering for the 54th regiment he was promoted by Major Cabot Forbes. He had to
The film showed me a lot about the horrors of the war. It was a very hard and long war.
I have since heard the book and its message described as fascistic, provocative, irresponsible, unpalatable. This it may well be. Yet I found reading his book to be an amazingly sobering and dispiriting affair. One can really drink up the spirit of a man in reading his prose, and I fear Heinlein to be not someone with whom I want to share a beer or be friends. I read later that he was a career military officer who developed tuberculosis and was invalided out of the fleet to a literary career. There hangs about this book a severe and cynical air of wounded world-weariness, as if life is a dreary and dangerous affair requiring toughness and discipline to survive. He nearly models Sparta in his apotheosis of rigorous military training as
This film depicts on how a group of young men, lead by Jed Eckert along with his brother matt Eckert and two young women; they find themselves fighting against the Russians, Cubans and Nicaraguan paratroopers that have taken over their small town of Calumet, Colorado. The film basically covers the backdrop of world war III in a smaller scale, where a group known as the wolverines, named after their high school football team, stands low for a few months in the mountains where they are forced to live as outsiders and depend on wild animals to survive. Without any means of communication with the outside population they are unaware of the rules and regulations that have been placed by the invaders; they have raided many of the homes
In this move, the Chinese community expects women to get married for procreation purposes. For instance, Wai Tung is being by his mother to get so that he can give her a granddaughter against his will. At the long last he gets married to satisfy his nagging parents to a female tenant. The movie creates a notion that a woman needs a man to achieve something in life because Wei Wei gets married to a gay landlord because she needs a green card. In this case, the marriage between Tung and Wei becomes a marriage of convenience. This scene portrays an aspect of China traditions that women are tools of sex in that part where Mr. Gao insists on throwing a wedding banquet for the couple. After the party and all the drinking, Wai Tung and Wei Wei are put to bed, and things get out of hand. Also, the movie reveals another purpose of female in traditional Chinese culture, which is human production. Tung’s father doesn’t care if his son is homosexual or not as long as he gets a grandchild. Tung’s parents only want Wei to give their family the next generation.
In the way it is visually astounding is only a bonus, it is perfectly executed and displayed. I feel as if this is a masterpiece because of the way it tackles discrimination, not only from the ‘white side’ view but from the how the Native populace feels toward the invaders. It exposes the tender side of two worlds colliding, such as trying to make peace and attempting to learn both sides of culture. The contrast between the two worlds is shown by Jake Sully constantly moving between both worlds, the audience is eventually more exposed to the Na’vi side just as Jake Sully is. He says “It feels like out there is the real world, and in here is the dream..” James Cameron does beautifully in showing a ‘cliché’ event in a new
I read the section about the battles that took place during WWII. It brought to my minds that in real life. There are more important things during a war than finding a private Ryan. War is a huge event and the little things like finding a person to keep the family name going is too small to include in war history. This is what separates the movies from the real life. Another difference is they don't show the actual planning it takes to start an attack or the inelegance that is needed to set up the perfect defense barrier to prevent the advancement of the enemy soldiers. A real battle can last days, weeks, months, or years, compared to movie war that lasts not even a day and has one guy or one platoon take on the entire other side. The casualties of real war is tremendous, rather than movies where you see almost the same characters in the whole movie accomplishing some of the most intense tasks with only one or two dying. Also, in movie war you don't see the other side's horror. You think all the opponents are bad horrible people that deserve to die, when they are just soldiers doing their job and the only reason we are fighting them is because of a bad leader or government. So in the movies every enemy deserves to die and should be shown no mercy, but the actual thing about that is that the enemy is just like any other soldier. And furthermore when the good guys lose a battle in a
While watching this film you may find yourself experiencing some of the same emotions as the characters in the film this allows you to be in the movie letting you be a part of an important event in our history. This is what makes the film so unique. Its full of different scenarios that keep you wondering what is going to happen next. I think that this film is a very close representation of what WWII was really like.
Compared to our own class textbook, I feel as if the movie covered the change of East Germany well with emotional family love and a touch of comedy.
Saving Private Ryan is a theatrical masterpiece that incorporates many universal themes that almost all people can relate to. The movie follows a squad of U.S. soldiers as they battle through the trenches of World War II. Directed by the great Stephen Spielberg, the movie is claimed by many to be the most accurate presentation of war in any movie to date. The movie includes several themes that helps captivate the audience and truly help people understand just how horrible war is. The idea of losing loved ones frightens even the toughest of us, and being lost in a foreign land scares many others. Both of these themes are thoroughly explored and propelled onto the audience to experience. The extremely accurate depiction of war, the universal themes that everyone can relate to, and the film being a theatrical masterpiece are all reasons why everyone should watch Saving Private Ryan.
In the movie, “The Empire Strikes Back,” the good side is superior to the dark side. During the movie, many examples show how this holds true. The good side shows just how much good there is, and can be recognized all throughout the movie. On the other hand, the dark side does have some examples, but they are not as strong as the ones on the good side. Also, Luke Skywalker stayed on the good side, rather than going to the dark side with Darth Vader.
This movie has examples of more A-Symmetrical style fighting like we talked about in class. There is a scene in the desert where a fight between two military groups happens. Mostly far away shooting and strategic efforts have to be used to take down opponents. Adjustments have to be made on the field in order to be successful.
The main themes of the movies are about the wars and situation in wars. The movies suggested about the actions of the person at war times. These movies are different from the other war movies because these movies are not more related with the entertaining actions but it focuses more about the survival in tough situation, the point of view of the person fighting in war situations, these factors are the major reasons of their fame. The movie The Hurt Locker started with a statement that “War is a drug”.
I will be critiquing the movie Hacksaw Ridge which was directed by Mel Gibson. This movie is a biography about one of the bravest war heroes during world war II. The actor playing the part for Desmond T. Doss is Andrew Garfield. I will be be breaking down the film on acting and special effects, this will be mostly a positive view on the movies because I thought this was a great movie. This movies is more than just fighting in war this movie is about your beliefs and never letting anybody change them.
