The Pigman, by Paul Zindel, is a recount of preceding circumstances narrated by John Conlan and Lorraine Jensen, who are two sophomores at Franklin High School. Recently, their unanticipated friend Mr. Pignati has died, and they are attempting to tell the story of how they met him, and what happened after. When Lorraine and John first met they were on the bus, and they had become friends by default. John and Lorraine were both outcasts, and did not tend to fit in with a certain group of people. Lorraine had lots of anxiety about everything she did. Part of this anxiety may have stemmed from her mother, as her mother had an extreme distrust in men. John however, seemed to not care what anyone felt about him. His parents seem to not trust him,
“Description begins in the writer’s imagination but should end in the reader’s.” “Writing good dialogue is art as well as craft.” Descriptive adjectives really help the readers see what it’s like to be in the story and imagine what the characters look like and feel like at that moment. Dialogue helps the reader see the story from their point of view and shows us what they think of something else. In the story The Pigman by Paul Zindel, the author uses descriptive adjectives and dialogue to develop the story.
In the book the Republic Socrates creates a city called the City of Pigs. Socrates refers to it as the true city, the healthy ones. His companions do not like the idea of this city. They all come up with a city that they all agree with called the City of Luxury. They believe this city is good and unbiased. I agree with them, I think the City of Luxury is a better city and is overall more unbiased than the City of Pigs.
"Duties Done", a piece from The Pig that Wants to Be Eaten, explores the difference between a fulfilled promise and an unfulfilled one. "Duties Done" is a short story about four characters, Hew, Drew, Lou, and Sue. The family all promised their mother that they would regularly write letting her know how everything was going during their expedition around the world. It is here where the question arises of whether the children actually kept their promise. Even though they promised frequent written updates on their travels, none of them actually arrived and their mother never received any updates. Though each child did write to their mom, Lou and Sue were the only children whom actually made a sincere effort to fulfill the promise to their mother.

Christmas break was finally over, so it was time to return to the stressful world known as school. I wanted to check on my guinea pig, Sparky, when I first woke up at six o’clock a.m. to see how he was doing. I had tried picking him up to put him in his small carrier, but he was very stiff and heavy, so I decided to leave him until my parents had found out.
