On the 15th of April 2013, two brothers Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev planted two bombs 190m apart on the side of the road, one of them by the finish line of the Boston Marathon. The bombers Tamerlan and Dzhokhar set the first bomb off at approximately 2.49pm and the second bomb 12 seconds later. The homemade pressure cooker bombs were filled with nails, ball bearings and black powder and were triggered by a remote device. A 1.25V 3000mAh Sub-C battery was used in the explosives. These batteries were used for remote control cars. The perpetrator Dzhokhar told authorities that he learned to make the bombs from an article in Inspire magazine. At 6.10pm on the night of the bombings President Barack Obama did a press conference speaking to reporters about the events that had just unfolded hours earlier. His words “We will find out who did this. We’ll find out why they did this. Any responsible individuals, any responsible groups, will feel the full weight of justice” would have helped many Americans feel safe and protected after the bombings. The next day April 16th, 2013 President Obama announces that the bombings were an act of terrorism and only two bombs were found, despite previous reports that there were other unexploded devices. Two days later April 18th, 2013 the Tsarnaev brothers shoot Sean Collier, a Massachusetts Institute of Technology police officer dead on campus. Later reports found that the brothers were trying to steal Sean’s gun from him but could not figure out the triple lock holster. After the shooting the brothers carjacked a driver in Cambridge and 30 minutes late drove to a Shell petrol station where the driver was released from the car. This is when the police locate them and start a chase. The brothers drove into Watertown, Massachusetts and threw explosives out the windows, then a gunfire with police officers
