“Buck lived at a big house in the sun-kissed Santa Clara Valley” (Pg.3 ) Buck lives a very pampered life with Judge Miller, his wife, and two sons. One night Manuel, one of the gardener’s helpers who loved to play the Chinese lottery, dognapped Buck, for what he thought was a stroll, to the train station. Where Manuel tied a rope around Buck’s neck and told the man he was talking to , “Twist it, an’ you’ll choke m’ plentee.” (Pg.6) Buck was not fed or given anything to drink for two nights and two days. During that time Buck had gone from being put on a train, fairey, and then another train to Seattle.
After the train ride, Buck was taken to the man in the red sweater. Once Buck was let out of the kennel, he ran and started trying

“One day was very like the others. At a certain time each morning the cooks turned fires, fires were built, and breakfast was eaten. Then, while some broke camp, others harnessed the dogs…” (Pg.48-49) Sometimes when Buck laid by the fire, Buck would see a man from the stone age. Sometimes Buck would see himself with the man. Thirty days after they left dawson they arrived at Skagway. Three days passed when two men bought them. Their names were Charles and Hal. Charles also had a wife whose name was Mercedes, who was also Hal’s sister. Charles and Hal were very incompetent. They had to get rid of most of their supplies on the sled. Charles and Hal then went out to buy six more dogs to make the sled team become made of a dozen dogs. Because of how many dogs there were the food portions had to get smaller. Dub was the first to go, then Billee, then Koona, and more. With all the dogs dropping like flies, they went to John Thornton. Thornton warned them about the thin, rotting ice ahead, but Charles wasn't having it. when it was time to leave, Buck wouldn't get up, so Hal repeatedly beat Buck. John thornton shoved Hal saying “If you strike that dog again, I'll kill you,” (Pg.71) After that Thornton tok Buck, and everyone else left to later fall in the thin ice Thornton warned them …show more content…
Buck made a great leader, he disciplined when needed but not too harshly, and he kept everyone in their place. With buck being leader the sled team achieved an average of 40 miles for 14 days. The team arrived at Skagway, where “Francois called buck over to him, threw his arms around him, wept over him. And that was the last of Francois and Perrault.” (Pg.48) After that a Scotch half-breed took charge of them.
Only after a few days of rest the dogs, the Scotch half-breed, his companions, and about a dozen other sled dogs were back on the trail to Dawson. He was warned, repeatedly, be the old-timer at Sulphur Creek that they trip was too dangerous and that travelling alone would certainly lead to death. However, the man ignored the old-timer’s advice and travelled with a dog instead of a trail-mate.This story by Jack London reads, “If he had only had a trail-mate he would have been in no danger now. The trail-mate could have built the fire” (London 9). That fire could have saved his life. A trail-mate would have also been able to help guide the man and prevent him from falling into a freezing creek in the first place. He believed that a trail-mate was unnecessary because the man was confident that the trip would be easy. He thought his wilderness skills exceeded a normal man and would allow him to travel alone with zero issues. This arrogance resulted in the death of the man in To Build a
Buck then kills multiple Yeehats out of anger. He is then left with the decision to live by himself in the wild.
Buck had heard the “call” faintly in his times as the Judge’s dog, roaming the nearby areas either alone or with the Judge’s daughters. It was only once he was subjected to the cruelty of the dog trade that his ferocity showed itself fully and the “call” began gaining strength. It did not help that he was sold as a sled dog, living in the
Bucks loyalty to his master is proven through his saviors provided to John. When a drunk miner attack Master Thornton Buck attacks and kills the man. Another case when his master was caught in rapids buck swam to him with a tow line and saved his life again. He also completed a bet that his master made that said Buck was strong enough to pull a sled with 1000 pounds on it, and also moved it for a total of 100 yards which won his master 600
Buck is better off being a sled dog. Buck is a sled dog because buck likes to play in the snow with the temperature being 0 degrees below freezing. Buck and Spitz goes out to play in the cold winter. Buck and Spitz goes to play the men gets the sled and let them ride down the cold Icey hill. Buck and Spitz goes to play. Buck was the lead dog then buck and spitz starts to fight. The dogs fight over who are going to be the lead dog over the stage. Buck fights with spitz then buck is now the lead dog. While buck is the lead dog spitz is still wondering how to get back at buck. Now you understand that Buck is now the lead dog of the other
Buck had to persevere through many changes in his dog sledding career. He had to start this life and happened to know nothing of it. Buck did not know what snow was so he started as a laughable dog. He had to learn the laws of claw and fang.
Since Buck is not used to this much cold he is freezing and the humans are barely feeding him. He starts to adapt to the cold and he gets stronger. Buck is getting closer and more connected with his primitive instincts. Spitz starts picking fights with buck and stealing his warm spots to sleep and buck couldn't take it anymore and they were going to start to fight when a group of starving huskies come and badly injures all the dogs. After that the dogs were force by the humans to pass on top of thin ice and buck helps the dogs pass the frozen river.
This was a rude awakening to Buck. He know longer had the love from the judge and the luxurious lifestyle. He was pitted against harsh weather and men with clubs. The weather was hard on Bucks feet and he had to learn to dig holes in the snow to sleep and keep warm. The sled drivers would beat the dogs to make them listen and to keep driving the
As he walked up to the green field that was planted with clover and soy bean, along with some other thrown in ingredients; corn, mustard, and collards. Buck thought “It is December 24, middle of the rut, he had better show his butt up.” Buck walked over to a humongous tree and set down and positioning himself to shoot where he thought the buck would walk. If buck is still enough he just might get a shot of a lifetime to kill Bullwinkle. “ Now to settle my mind, so that I can concentrate and time will fly, but oh my lord it is getting cold.” he thought to himself. Two hours had passed by, 2 does had walked onto the field and good sized ones to. “I know I can take a shot at either of them, and it would be a lot of meat but I need to wait”. Buck sat there patiently, awaiting the arrival of Bullwinkle. Another hour has passed and it is 6:40, about twenty minutes of daylight left, Buck was starting to get discouraged knowing that not much time was left as well of his chance of killing the monster buck was
A Newfoundland, named Curly, on Buck’s sled team was killed by a pack of wolves which taught Buck that the Klondike is is not like living on a ranch in Santa Clara Valley. A dog named Spitz on the sled team was a threat to the sled team. Spitz would bully every dog on the sled team. He would steal food from the other, and he would bite the dogs if they fought back. He bullied Buck the most. Buck did hated Spitz as much as Buck hated him. One day when a five score of dogs were chasing after a with snowshoe rabbit. Buck caught up the to the snowshoe and killed the rabbit in one bite. Spitz wanted the kill, and when got it Spitz ran right over to Buck and stole the rabbit form Buck. Buck fought Spitz to the death. All the dogs circled around them and enclosed the circled so nobody could leave the fight Buck killed Buck he became the leader of the of the dog sled
Today, we are going to skip all of the other events and go right into the steer riding. Down behind the bucking chutes, a young ten-year-old boy roughly loosened his neatly braided, steer riding rope. The young boy whose name was Dustin Burn speedily jumped into his bull riding pants, quickly buckled up his gear, and strode over to the chutes. Soon, his fat steer came waddling down to him. Dustin slowly brushed the little dust particles off the steer’s wide back.

The conflict at the beginning of the book was Buck and Spitz both wanted to be lead dog of the sled team. After that problem was solved the new conflict was that Buck had been through so much and was becoming weaker as his journey through Alaska went on. One of his masters named Hal became angry at Buck when he would not get up and pull the sled. But before Hal could kill Buck, John Thornton jumped in front of Hal’s club and threatened to kill him if he hit Buck again. After that, Hal backed away and John took buck from him. Later on after Buck was healthy again they saw Hal’s sled in the water and thought that he had died with the
The dogs are exhausted, poorly fed, and beaten regularly. Some of the dogs die when the food runs out. Eventually they wake it to a John Thornton's camp. He warns the travelers about the ice and how it is thin. They do not heed the warning and try to force the dogs onward, but Buck will not move. Buck is beaten and is nearly killed by one of his masters unil Thornton saves him and cuts him free. They force the remaining dog’s onward until the ice breaks less than a quarter mile from Thornton’s camp, and they all fall in. Thornton becomes Buck’s new master and he follows him loyally. Buck saves his life multiple times. Even winning a bet for his master when he pulled a heavy sled.
As I pulled the release, the sled jerked forward and I yelled the command. As soon as I told them to go, there was silence. All I could hear was the wind flying by my face. I was standing on my drag, clipping along at a fast pace up the hill. No matter how big the hill was, we were still going really fast up it. The dogs were excited and trying really hard to pull me and my sled up the hill. Then that was when i got to a difficult corner.
