‘When hard work is all you know, then success becomes inevitable.’
Studying As levels and BTEC level 3 has definitely helped me gain a deep understanding of the mental , physical and the theories behind sports and science. This helped expand my vision into the career choices I can pursue within the region of my interest. Since the age of 11 I started watching documentaries on how the body physically and mentally works; from then on my mind became stimulated with ideas and interests of learning and understanding sports and the science behind it. The skills and understanding I gained in my spare time helped in advancing my level of knowledge. Being able to apply my interest into a career is definitely motivating. The anatomy and physiology side

What I found interesting about this was how the other students saw me as a role model and was able to come to me for help asking me about sports and how to improve their fitness, whether it was basketball, football or just training in the gym. I learnt how to inspire, because of what I was able to achieve just by helping and mentoring others. Science and sports has always kept me engaged in my educational life as well as my social life; playing basketball at a local community centre and taking part in event such as football tournaments indoor and outdoor. The skills gained from these experience has helped me in my own life such as taking charge, decision making, being organised and being able to adapt to change in situations. Attending different sports tournaments helped me improve in different areas of sports as well as dealing with different type of competitions and challenges. During my secondary school education I formed a team and competed in an indoor football tournament against other team within Birmingham. It was challenging but I kept the team together and we managed to come second in the tournament, which then lead to us competing with other team across the country. Many skills and experiences were gained during this time and also my attitude and behaviour towards my goals changed; I became stronger, more positive and more determined so that I wouldn’t give up in my future goals. I
When a student is in school, the options for what the student can do in their free time can impact them for the rest of their life. The choices to partake in an extracurricular activity, such as a sport could benefit one in many ways. They can create core values inside a person which then impacts other aspects of their life as well. Sports are able to give one a standard for the way their life should be spent. The ways a sport could influence a person are seen in The Other Wes Moore, giving both sides of the spectrum.
One of the activities that I took part in that I feel has shaped me as a person, was basketball. I joined the Sea Point High basketball team in the tenth grade, in South Africa. Now basketball was not very popular in South African high schools, as such we lost our coach in my junior year. The choices that were given to the team was to either end the program or to continue without a coach. As team captain I rallied my teammates and we persevered through without a coach; we showed up for intensive training and competed against other schools. At the end of my senior year I was presented with the basketball player of the year; however I feel that award did not necessarily celebrate my skill in the sport, but it acknowledged the determination and
Sport is incredible in how it can increase confidence, self-esteem, and overall health while teaching children a new ability of working with others as a team, taking direction, and doing things they never thought possible. I want to be able to show what sports is capable of teaching and the rewards that come along with it. The concept of team reveals what is achievable through solidarity that would be impossible in solitary.
Ever since I was a small girl, I’ve been told that I’m “Mature beyond my years,” or that I “Don’t act my age.” Upon hearing such comments I was confused. However, as I grew older and became more self-aware, I realized how utterly true they were. In retrospect, I credit much of my maturity to being raised by two grandparents who have been senior citizens the entirety of the time I’ve known them. I’ve always harbored a passion for learning and have an innate ability to quickly grasp concepts. I admire any person or teacher who can challenge me because I know it contributes to personal growth. I also know that participating in The College of St. Scholastisca’s PSEO Program is perfect for me because I would be challenged to grow academically, mentally, and even spiritually. I thoroughly believe that I’d be hard-pressed to find another college that
Participation in sport alone has not been enough for me. A degree in Sport and Exercise Science is the obvious option to satisfy my fascination with how the human body functions, a deep-rooted passion which has only been amplified by my own exploits as an athlete.
The reason why I want to have a seat in the University of Minnesota Post secondary Education Option Program is because it will be great for me obviously and it will help me become familiar with a college environment. The type of environment a college has is a mature one with mature way of interacting, than a high school has to offer, and I personally believe that the way students interact is important to how well they do in their study. And college is much more different than a high scool because there is a wide variety of indivituallies with different relgons, cultures, and languages and these situations are cool to experince first hand.My high school is a really small communitiy and it does not offer really good class unlike the University of Minnesota, which is why when I heard about this option I realized it was exactly what I want. In the PSEO program I will be able to acquire these skills, and make my experience at a college a one to remember.
I have been appointed a school prefect this year and will be sports captain for my house this year. I hope these roles will improve my leadership and communication skills, something that is crucial for a career in teaching sport. I hope that study coaching science or physical education will improve my understanding of coaching and sports theory, improve my delivery as a coach and evaluation of my own performance, both as a coach and as a
Along with NHS, being actively involved in varsity sports throughout high school has made me gain a “work hard” attitude. This attitude of constantly working above and beyond will carry over to my future education and career to help me succeed. As a two-year captain of both volleyball and cheerleading, I have learned to be a team leader while also being a team player. High school sports have instilled lifelong lessons in me such as working hard, being responsible, and being a leader, that I know will aid me in by success in academics and a
I have been accepted and decided to attend Lindenwood University- Belleville, beginning in the Fall of 2017. The college I have chosen is very close to home and has an excellent Nursing program. I intend to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree as my first step to eventually become a Certified Nurse Practitioner, specializing in Pediatric Psychiatry. I have been fascinated by all areas of medicine from a very young age and the interest has only grown over the years. I took my first psychology class this year and I love learning about the mind and why humans think the way they do.
Throughout high school, I’ve been involved in multiple activities. As I began high school sports, I looked up to the upperclassmen and tried to be like them. As I grow older, I try to be a positive role model for the underclassmen, just as the students before me had done. I believe that being a positive influence on the ones that look up to you is a splendid aspect to have. As my senior year approached, I participated in volleyball for my fourth year. Throughout practice, I was sure to reach

Athletics has played an instrumental role promoting success in all branches of life impacting my performance in school, work and other life facets. Involvement in athletics taught me the value of commitment allowing me to play in Division 1 Women’s Soccer while attending the University of Washington. As a former student athlete, I have been winning and losing my entire life developing my own resilience and tremendous work ethic to work with others toward a common goal. My drive spills over into my professional interactions and career aspirations allowing me to connect
I desire to earn a PhD with a focus in the area of Christian Leadership from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary because of the school’s unwavering focus on the Gospel, fulfilling the Great Commission, and diversity. All of the previous mentioned biblical values are firmly displayed at every level in the academic programing and by the professors at SEBTS that I have the pleasure of getting to know. A passion for the Gospel, fulfilling the Great Commission, and seeing diversity within the local church fuel my calling to equip God’s people to advance His Kingdom wherever they are sent. A PhD in Christian Leadership will provide the theological knowledge, experience, and confidence needed to become a leader for my family and the body of
The purpose of the ‘transition day’ at The Huddle was to equip Year 5/6 students with social and emotional self-awareness to assist in their transition into secondary education. The learning of social and emotional skills was introduced to students in small groups led by pre-service teachers, focussing on playing games that required attention to teamwork, individual effort, and competitive spirit. Following these games, discussions were held with the students, reflecting on the process in which they engaged emotionally and/or socially with aspects of successfully completing a game. Student would then write their reflections in response to structured questions into a booklet, allowing them to reflect again as they continue to move towards the end of their primary education and the beginning of their secondary education. Student’s reflections would include the identification of social or emotional skills required to successfully complete a task, and an evaluation of why particular skills are important as they transition. Ang and Penney (2013) conducted researched on the implementation of social and emotional earning within a sports education unit, identifying three key phases, all of which were evident in the Transition Day. Phase One involves outlining the activity, defining outcomes, and setting goals. Phase Two involves engaging in the activity around teamwork and team-building skills. Phase Three
Apart from teaching them about the game of football, I served as a good role model toward their work ethic. I made sure to always give my best during practices and workouts because I knew the younger kids would see me trying my best and it would push them to do their best. In track, I was the only upperclassman long distance runner during my junior year. While the track coaches were busy with the short distance runners and field events, they trusted me to watch over and teach the JV runners. I made sure that all of the kids would do the complete running workout. I made sure to be a good example for hard work in track also. I would push myself as hard as I could every day in order to instill a good work ethic into the kids. By improving my running times every week, the kids learned that the only way to succeed is through pushing themselves as hard as they can. I feel a great sense of pride and enjoyment when I watch the kids improve in the sports I helped them with. My goal when leading was not only to help the kids be the best they can be in their sport but more importantly teach them life lessons that will help them throughout their life. Mentoring these kids showed me that leading by example is the best way to be a good leader.
