According to Buddhist cosmology, “there are multiple possible states of existence, including hell beings, hungry ghosts, animals, humans, and gods” (Fisher, 2014, p. 148). However, these reincarnations are temporary and flawed because they are trapped in a cycle of samsara (Fisher, 2014, p. 149). Buddhist also teaches that “the creation of the universe isn’t known. Instead, they teach that when a universe is destroyed, then another will form and take the place of the previous one (Buddhist Belief of the Beginning, n.d.). Buddhist believes “the pattern of death and rebirth is eternal, and so it is pointless to single out any one beginning” (Buddhist Belief of the Beginning, n.d.).

Buddhism is a nontheistic (does not believe in god or gods) religion (Fisher, 2014). They believe that there is no particular God who had created the world (Fisher, 2014). Buddha himself is not worshipped as well. “Buddhism is not centered around the concept of God or an universal supreme being, who is responsible for the creation and dissolution of the world and the existence of sentinel beings” (V, J., 2016). A belief system is something that answers unexplained questions about life and the universe. The belief system Buddhism is a philosophy, meaning it’s faith in group of ideas instead of gods or goddesses. It was founded in India by a prince named Siddhartha Gautama who found enlightenment by meditating. A Buddhist’s goal of life is to reach nirvana and be one with the universe. One of the oldest belief systems of the world, Buddhism, has affected the lives of its followers in many ways.
Every Religion believes in either a God(s), a leader, or supernatural forces. Unlike Christians who believe in Jesus Christ, is the divine savior of God, who died upon the cross to save others from their sins, Buddhists believe in an enlightened man referred to as Buddha. Buddha is believed to have lived between circa 563 to 483 BCE and believed to have taught in northeastern India. Buddha’s teachings are based upon his life, and provide guidance and support to his followers.
Buddhism has no creator god to explain the creation of life and the universe. Buddhism teaches that everything depends on everything else. In other words, present events are caused by past events and become the cause of future events. Buddhists believe that an old world system had been destroyed and its inhabitants are reborn in a new system. In the beginning, they are spirits floating above the earth happily with luminescence and without form, name or sex. At first, the world is without light and land, but is made of water. Eventually the earth appears and the spirits come to taste and enjoy it. Their greed causes their ethereal bodies to become solid, causing separation of the sexes and their bodies to appear beautiful or ugly. When they lose their luminescence, the sun and moon come into being. As the beings fall further into their wicked habits, which causes themselves and the earth to become even more unpleasant. Buddhists believe that everything we do is what molds our lives and the earth into what it is now (The Buddhist universe, 2009).
Buddhism is an extremely unique religion that has many different philosophies and practices that you can not find in any other world religions. Buddhism explains the purpose of life. It is also a way to find peace within oneself. It helps find the happiness and contentment that people in our world today desperately seek. These variety of traditions, beliefs, and spiritual practices are largely based on teachings attributed to Gautama Buddha, commonly known as the Buddha, “the enlightened one”. Followers of Buddhism generally tend to stay away from conflict and live peacefully, working towards the ultimate goal of pure and lasting happiness. The religion is growing around the world and most recently in the west. It is a religion that can easily attract people from their fast pace world by giving them solutions and practices to relieve their stress and worries. Buddhism has answers to many of the problems in modern materialistic society. It is an ancient religion that millions of people around the world still follow today. (“A Five Minute Introduction.”)
Buddhists believe the world and life have no beginning or end. They do not believe in God or a creator.
Although Buddhism evolved from Hinduism it differs from Hinduism in god beliefs. According to Buddhists there is no God, but they reverence the Buddha and his teachings as though he were one.
Buddhists do not believe in transcendent or any other type of god or gods, the need for a personal savior, the power of prayer, eternal life in heaven or hell after death as many of the western religions do. They do believe in reincarnation: the concept that one must go through many cycles of birth, living and death. After many of these cycles, if a person releases their attachment to desire and the self they can then attain Nirvana. The teachings of Buddhism effectively deal with the question of human beings very existence and pursue the surest way toward establishing a secure basis for living. It is a practical system, which provides a means to realize a state of self-perfection. (Field)
Buddhists believe that there is no god. They worship and follow the teachings of the Buddha because they believe that he was the first person to be spiritually enlightened. Buddhists aspire to reach Nirvana, a place of perfect peace and happiness. Buddhists believe that to be enlightened you must know the four noble truths and to reach Nirvana you must follow the eightfold path and end suffering in your life.
Buddhism is a very unique religion and it differs from all other religion out there. They do not believe in a God. Tak stated, “We don't believe in a god because we believe in man. We believe that each human being is precious and important, that all have the potential to develop into a
The Buddhist religion does not actually have a god, Buddha was just enlightened. They have a philosophy of self-denial and meditation. They also live by, “In order to gain anything, first you must lose everything; Our pain is because of our attachment to things.”
Buddhism is a religion that is based on teachings it does not have a single God or many gods that are typical found in most religions such as Christianity or Hinduism. Buddhism is a different religion because “All Buddhist practices are ways of developing virtues that entails the non-harming of other beings and a generosity of heart; The purpose of all these practices of virtue, kindness, non-harming, generosity, concentration, steadiness of mind, and the understanding and wisdom that arises, is to bring us to freedom.” This shows that Buddhism is not about violence, merit, good deeds or bad deeds rather Buddhism is about yourself and how you can become better by helping others and also making the world a better place as well. Buddha preached more about self-realization because he knew that is why people suffer their thoughts are more of desires rather then looking within them
Buddhism stands as a philosophy and a religion founding itself on the theory of a possible eternal soul. Until awakening is achieved, this eternal soul is locked in the vicious cycle of rebirth (Samsara). According to the Four Noble Truths preached by the Buddha, life is a perpetual suffering caused by desire and attachment, and freedom from suffering is only possible by practicing the Eightfold Path. The World is suffering in a succession of temptations and negative experiences from birth to death. Therefore Buddhism advises on searching to go beyond suffering, and only aspire to rest, nothingness, and liberation, into a final state called Nirvana. Happiness or Nirvana can eventually be achieved in a hereafter, another life, if man abandons any desire or perspective of action within his present life, in order to go past suffering.
Buddhism was founded by Siddhartha Gautama. Buddhists worship him,but refer to him as the Buddha. He is a teacher instead of a god. The teachings of Buddhism teaches people how to reach the state of nivara by recognizing the four noble truths and following the laws of the eight fold path. Their sacred text is the Tripitaka.
The intention in the Buddhist conception there is a different meaning than the one that we are accustomed to use. When we talk about the intention of something, we are usually referring to a connection between our thoughts and the realization of an action based on these thoughts. However, from a Buddhist perspective, all the actions, symbols, all the thoughts and the responses of the mind to them, contains elements of intention. So, the intention is the force that plans and organizes the movements of the mind. In the end, it’s what determines the stages experienced by the mind. Karma is often referred to action and its consequences. Phrases such as “do good and good will come to you” and “good actions bring good results, bad actions bring bad
One of the ideas I was wrong about Buddhism is that I thought that they worshipped a deity which was Buddha and that Buddhists pray to him just like Catholics pray to God. In the lectures, I learned that Buddhism didn’t have a god which was weird for me to learn because all the religions that we’ve learned before had a type of God. I found it interesting that Buddha was seen as a teacher and was never turned into a God like in Christianity, he was seen as a revered teacher and great influence to look up to for Buddhists. The lectures also taught me that Buddha himself didn’t believe in a higher power but believed that a person could reach nirvana for themselves and not because a higher power was telling them too because that’s why he did it. He did it for himself when he meditated under the tree so that he could learn about himself and how the world works and its secrets. Learning that Buddhism had no God to obey, I felt like
