There has been about 4,400 deaths a year do to suicide. Suicide can be caused by many things. A person can be pushed to suicide, if they are bullied and/or deeply depressed.
Bullying and suicides have a strong link between them. Bullying can include cyber bullying, verbal bullying, physical bullying and many more. Many people will try to get help when they are bullied. Even a teacher may tell them that they need to fight back. When someone cries out for help and no one helps them, they will most likely be pushed to suicide because they see it as the only way out. About 7-9% of bullied victims are more likely to consider suicide. That is 7-9% more than it should be. Suicide needs to be taken seriously. Nationally we have many websites and hotlines you can call. While I researched the topic of teen suicide, I came acrossed the website for The American Association of Suicidology. On this website they have training tools to help teacher, friends, and family view warning signs of teens that are at risk of suicide. This is a great website for the for statistically higher at risk groups such as, bullied youth, youth and foster care, LGBT. The suicide national hotline is 1-800-SUICIDE(784-2433). The hotline is toll free, 24 hours ,and confidential . It helps connect teens, at risk for suicide or have suicidal thoughts, to a trained counselor at the nearest crisis center to you. Not only are there national resources available we also have, here in Iowa, a prevention action plan for 2015-2018. This program is funded by a federal grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). With his prevention plan it has its staff conduct training and provide tools for our community and school professionals to help us prevent the percentage of suicide and and percentage of teen at risk for suicides.
