Burnt by the Sun depicts a time period in Russia’s history when the old and new ways of life collide during Stalin’s reign of terror, just as they did during the Socialist Revolution. Through the course of the Revolution and the Civil War, Kotov becomes a war hero and decorated army officer, while Mitya, a member of the old Intelligentsia class, is persecuted by the Revolution. As the film begins, the new and the old once again collide as Kotov’s “romantic” ideals of the Revolution are replaced by Stalin’s police state. Stalin desires to centralize his power and eliminate any threats to his dictatorship by removing all prominent and influential members from Soviet Russia, including Kotov. This is when Mitya enters the picture, as an affiliate of the secret police who wants to avenge Kotov for his actions during the Revolution and for marrying his love, Marusia. The “artificial” conflict between the old and new ways of life is over and the Revolution continues to exist. Just like the “planned fireball” in the article from the beginning of the film, the conflict between the old and the new is evidently planned by the Revolution for the demise of Kotov and Mitya. Their complex relationship with the Revolution and with each other is used to portray their victimhood through their eventual deaths, regardless of their collaboration with the Revolution. This film is dedicated to “all who were burnt by the sun of the Revolution,” as everybody is a victim and only the regime survives. Survival is the only goal of the Revolution, which is only possible under the debris caused by the destruction of its victims like Kotov and

Barn Burning “Barn Burning” by William Faulkner was written in the ebb of the 1930’s in a decade of social, economic, and cultural decline. The Snopes’s family was in the social class of the poor, white tenant farmers. The father, Abner Snopes, had to struggle to provide for his family.

Barn Burning "You’re getting to be a man. You got to learn. You got to learn to stick to your own blood or you ain’t going to have any blood to stick to you." This quote from William Faulkner’s "Barn Burning" does reveal a central issue in the story, as Jane Hiles suggests in her interpretation. The story is about blood ties, but more specifically, how these ties affect Sarty (the central character of the story). The story examines the internal conflict and dilemma that Sarty faces. When the story begins, Sarty and his family are in a courtroom. Sarty, known in a proper setting as Colonel Sartoris, which in itself gives an insight into the families mentality. Sarty’s father, Abner Snopes is being

The novel, Darkness at Noon, clearly referenced Stalin’s purges that occurred during the late 1930s. The story follows an old Bolshevik—Rubashov—as he experienced the Great Purge and subsequent show trial. In Ernest Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises, Jake Barnes is a lost man who wastes his life on drinking. Towards the beginning of the book Robert Cohn asks Jake, “Don’t you ever get the feeling that all your life is going by and you’re not taking advantage of it? Do you realize that you’ve lived nearly half the time you have to live already?” Jake weakly answers, “Yes, every once in a while.” The book focuses on the dissolution of the post-war generation and how they cannot find their place in life. Jake is an example of a person who had the freedom to choose his place but chose poorly.
The officers are shown to be dimwitted, as they fiddle with their mustaches, while the sailors are enraged at the meat they are being fed. This is contrast because the sailors represented the people that were directly affected by the revolution and the sailors constructed the people as strong and ready to fight. On the other hand, the officers made the government look responsible, since they were blamed for social and political anarchy in 1905, during the revolution. The officers were shown as being weak and not fazed by the problems that were being faced by the Soviet people. The sailors fought back and a deluge of montage is used make viewers feel on edge. The dark and light images manufacture feelings of discomfort, since the viewer is completely familiar with the turmoil that broke loose on the steps of Odessa by the use of contrast and montage, which is another example of socialist realism as the scene on the steps resembles the characteristics of socialist realism.
A time when I was deeply inspired was at my mom's work event. My mom is a burn therapist so she goes to an event called burn survivor day. My sister and I volunteer at this event and then there was a speaker. He had burns from a suicidal attempt and he told his story. He told us about how he had given up before and how you should never give up on yourself no matter how hard times get and ever since that day I have been deeply inspired and grateful for my
As with many Death/Doom bands of the early 2000's, many accredit their influence to such acts as My Dying Bride and Paradise Lost. This is the case for band Swallow the Sun, who in 2000 and 2003 became a catalyst in the Doom/Death Field with their unabridged adaptations of Death, Black, and Funeral Doom Metal and welcomed a dark and menacing approach. With their ep in 2003 titled "Out of this Gloomy Light," Swallow the Sun was already a band that was hard to categorize, and the fans loved it.
In That Evening Sun, William Faulkner approaches the story through an anecdotal style that gives meaning to the story. The narrator uses the anecdote that happened to him to convey the story’s underlying meaning that people are restricted by social class and race, not realizing this meaning himself at the time. The era of racism pertains to the meaning of the story, discussing the aversion of southern white people to help those different from them, focusing on the restrictions that society has placed on social class and race separation and the desire to maintain the division.
The sun is the largest object in the solar system. It is a middle-sized star and there are many other stars out in the universe just like it. Even though it is only a middle-sized star it is large enough to hold over 1 million Earth’s inside if it were hollow. The temperature on the sun is far too much for any living thing to bear. On the surface it is 10,000 degrees Fahrenheit and the core is a stunning 27,000,000 degrees Fahrenheit. But don’t worry we are over 90,000 million miles away, the sun could never reach us, at least not yet. The sun is a still a middle aged star and later in its life it will become a Red Giant. In this stage it will get bigger, and closer to us causing a temperature increase and most likely the
