Abstract
In this brief response to the business ethics case study, I will highlight findings that question the integrity of Next Step Herbal Health Company according to Ramona Alexander’s research on the company and her observations of the CEO’s engagement and the recruiter’s response to her raised concerns. There were three major issues I found that were questionable in making a final decision of accepting any offers from Next Step. I will elaborate on the following points:
Leadership integrity in both the recruiter and CEO.
Biblical perspective on integrity
Questionable business practices, such as

From a biblical perspective we see in 1 Samuel 12:1-4 Israel’s high regard for Samuel. He was a man who exuded integrity. Samuel said to all of Israel, “I have listened to everything you said to me and have set a king over you. Now you have a king as your leader. As for me, I am old and gray, and my sons are here with you. I have been your leader from my youth until this day. Here I stand. Testify against me in the presence of the Lord and his anointed. Whose ox have I taken? Whose donkey have I taken? Whom have I cheated? Whom have I oppressed? From whose hand have I accepted a bribe to make me shut my eyes? If I have done any of these, I will make it right.” “You have not cheated or oppressed us,” they replied. “You have not taken anything from anyone’s hand.”
We see in this verse that Samuel promises to repay anything he had unjustly taken from anyone. This promise demonstrates Samuel’s heart and the caring of his people, it shows great integrity and we see the confirmation on the people’s response when not one person rose up to make a claim against Samuel (Boa 2005). Samuel shows two characteristics according to Boa that permeated every area of his live this was honesty and personal integrity. These two characteristics showed in how he regarded his possessions, his business dealings and his treatment of those who were weaker than himself. Samuel
Although 1 Samuel narrates the transition from theocracy, the judge, Samuel to a monarchial nation of Israel, the narrator reminds that Yahweh was already their mighty king and who had also proven himself trustworthy and also quite capable of calling out charismatic judges to lead the people in times of emergency after all he is the God. The Israel nation was God’s chosen people and under God’s care and divine kingship. In Samuel 7 we see obedience of Israel to God’s appointed judge, Samuel, that favored God’s deliverance of Israel from the hands of Philistines. There is no doubt Israel had not seen and experienced ultimate power of deliverance.
During the time of the judges, the land was full of corruption and sin. There was no king or legal authority in Israel and the people acted on what they thought was right and wrong. “In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes” (Judges 21:25). Samuel was Israel’s spiritual leader (priest), a prophet, and the last and most effective of the judges. God used Samuel to assist in the change of Israel’s government from a system of judges to kings.
Even as Samuel wrestled with God, God told him & the nation what a king would demand, and take from them. However, they shouted out they still wanted a king and to be like other nations. They didn’t care they would accept and deal with the cost associated with their request. They wanted what they wanted and it didn’t matter. We are the same today we want what we want it and don’t consider the cost, but as is often said, the devil is in the details or the cost as we see here.
In this section historical information concerning the lives of Saul and Samuel have been discussed. Such information will enlighten ones cultural and contextual study of 1 Samuel 8–15. Moreover, the reader will have more insight into the referential world of the author, thereby allowing one to discern their intended meaning.
In the beginning of 1 Samuel 25, we find that Samuel is dead and Israel is in mourning. Even though the Israelites did not see Samuel as the most successful ruler they still gave him honor by burying him in his home in Ramah. With the fall of Samuel came the rising of David. David set out to Paran and came across an important figure named Nabal. Nabal was a rich figure and owned property in Carmel. Nabal was very mean and evil, but his wife on the other hand was beautiful in appearance her name was Abigail. David wanted to reach out to Nabal and thus ordered his men to go out and find him in Carmel. When the men reached out to Nabal, he did not believe them. Nabal didn’t know whom David and could quite, frankly could care less what he had to offer to him. David thought he was offering a good
One of his main respobilties was to bring victory over the philistines who have taken the Arch from the Israel. As you read this verse (1 Samuel 14:18.) Samuel says bring the Ark of God. The king is showing the action of trying to get back the Holy Ark back for his people. That symbolizes his royalty to the people of his country.
The LORD assured him that it was an insult to his power rather than Samuel and encouraged Samuel to give the people what they want. He first had Samuel warn the Israelites of the costs that came with appointing a king. Samuel delivered the LORDS message, “the governance of the king who will rule you will be as follows: He will take your sons and assign them to his chariots and horses, and they will run before his chariot… He will take your male and female slaves, as well as your best oxen and donkeys, and use them to do his work.
To imagine the difficult trials he faced starting at a very young age of living life in separation of his earthy parents. Lead me to think of how God blessed and protected him through those times of hardship. The scriptures of Samuel present such great examples of what an authentic follower of Christ looks like. His story has taught me that God is listening and present in our lives, even in times of uncertainty. Hannah Samuel’s mother even got to experience the blessings of God’s great work, when He blessed her with a miracle baby. I believe that the passage of Samuel is to give us direction on how to structure our own lives and equip the lives of others in the form of obedience and faithfulness. Even though God’s gifts of commission to Samuel were in great measurements, he prevailed to be an honest individual, faithful prophet and devoted
New York State’s also increased competitive regulation of the gun dealing industry by implementing new laws. The General Business Law Article 39-DDD states “all private sales of firearms, rifles or shotguns be conducted through a licensed importer, manufacturer or dealer. Before any private sales may be made, a NICS check must be conducted by a dealer on the purchaser. While a dealer is not required to facilitate a private sale, if a dealer chooses to do so, he or she must create and maintain records relating to private sales to prove that the background checks were conducted. These records may be inspected by a police officer and are not subject to public disclosure under the FOIL provisions. The Safe Act provides that a dealer may charge
While Saul and David were the only Kings in 1 & 2 Samuel, Samuel was most certainly a leader as well. From a young age, Samuel was a “prospect leader”. He was never a king but was the one who God told to anoint the kings. Samuel was a crucial person for the development of Israel. Samuel was the middle man for God and Israel.
As shown, the Bible is an invaluable ethical guide that details the values important to God and necessary for a civilized society. One need only look at Proverbs 11:3 to understand that honesty, integrity, and trustworthiness are prominent characteristics of an ethical business leader. However, this is not the last reference regarding proper ethical behavior. As Scripture further reveals in Leviticus 19:11and 2 Timothy 3:16, an ethical leader is not only one who is fair and just in all dealings, but one who abides by laws, rules and regulations relating to their business activities. Conversely, in the manner that Romans 14:12 commands us to give an account of ourselves to God, so must leaders acknowledges and accept personal accountability for their decisions and mistakes to themselves, their colleagues, their organization, and society. When business leaders commit themselves to the pursuit of excellence, they exalt the Word of God. Most importantly, they validate God’s power to transform not only their own lives, but also those of their staff, clients, and communities in which they
Part 1: Question #1 – Is there something new that I’ve learned in my study of this part of 1 Samuel?
While looking at the political side of Samuel, one can see that there were two kings put in place to reign over the Israelites, Saul and David. Samuel was getting up in age, so he placed his two sons in the role of judges. Samuels two boys were total opposite of Samuel the political side of this story is that someone may hold power and begin take advantage of it, and begin to authority over anyone that see fit to. Since Joel and Abijah, Samuel’s son was not the best of judges two elders from Israel told Samuel the people of Israel wanted a king. Just to sneak in a cultural situation in this political view of the book of Samuel, is that as a child of God, Samuel went to God asking him for assistance on rather or not Israel can take on a king,
Leadership styles play an important role in the effectiveness of an organization with meeting their goals. The path to becoming an effective leader requires the observation of others within the role. For this task an interview was complete with Scott Light of Transportation Insurance Advisors out of Sanford Florida. The questions provided through the interview gave perspective on the personality traits, business standards and how ethics is utilized within the organization that he runs.
In The Bible there are multiple ideal societies which are presented, each denoted by the God's approval of that society and its leader. One of these societies is that portrayed in the story of Saul. In this story Samuel, a prophet of God, is given the task of revealing Saul, the ruler who is specified
