However, the inbounds found senior James Sapp, who fed junior Travion Kirkendoll, who hit the wide open three in front of the Maroon and White bench as time expired to give Centenary (5-5) the thrilling 67-66 win against Rust (1-12) Monday afternoon, December 19. Down 12-8 early, 10 unanswered gave Centenary the lead for the rest of the first half. On back-to-back possessions, Sapp made a layup and freshman Cedric Harris hit a three to quickly give the Gents the lead. Harris added the fastbreak triple and a jumper by Sapp gave the home team an 18-12 lead with 6:46 left in the first half. Centenary used a 19-2 edge in fastbreak points for the win. The Gents led by nine in heading into the second period, but a 12-3 run by Rust in the first six minutes of the final period tied the game. After neither team scored in more than 1:30, Dominique Brown made two free throws and Antono Jones made a layup. Kirkendoll took a defensive rebound coast-to-coast, but a layup by Jones and two free throws by Allen Potts cut the lead to three. A Jones layup cut the Centenary lead to one. Tied at two after an inning in game one, the Ladies scored two in the second and two in the third to open up a 6-2 lead. With two outs and no one on in the second, infield singles by junior Payton LeBlanc and sophomore Haley Campbell put two on for senior Anna Dunn. Dunn doubled to left center to clear the bases and put Centenary up for good.
In game two, Centenary fell behind 3-0 before scoring two in the fourth because of a key error and one more in the fifth. With two down in the fourth, senior Lizzie Moran hit a groundball to first that was misplayed to allow her to beat the throw. Moran stole second and scored on sophomore Wendy Gillet’s RBI hit. While trying to gun down Moran at the plate, Gillet moved to second and scored on freshman Ashley Albright’s hit.

With Centenary leading game two 10-8 in the top of the seventh, sophomore Kylie Bradley blasted the first pitch she saw over the leftfield fence. However, Grambling State answered with three runs of its own to tie the game. With one out, McKenzie Johnson homered and Kenyshae Beasley singled. She stole second and scored on Mercedes Williams double. Tia Coleman followed with the game-tying single, but did not advance past first after sophomore Mackenzie Stewart struck out the final two hitters.
The Gents played a closer game then they are used to in the series finale, but the Maroon and White never trailed in the series as Centenary (16-3, 3-0 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) swept a doubleheader with a 12-0 win (seven innings) in game one and 9-6 in game two.

Despite being ranked #16 Perfect Game, the Gents are not yet in the top-25 in the D3Baseball.com poll. However, Centenary received 28 points in the poll to be the top “Also Receiving Votes” team in the SCAC. Trinity received 26 votes, while Texas Lutheran garnered three votes.
