Final Product: Reflection Paper The practicum project conducted for CONR 643P_B included an internship for 7 Cups of Tea (7COT), an online support service for individuals in need of social, mental and emotional support. Services were provided through the process of active and reflective listening in an anonymous computer-mediated setting. On the 7 Cups of Tea website, active listening provides a podium for providing support, fashioning a community and instituting a network of constituents dedicated to destigmatizing mental health and providing unbiased support to anyone in need. Community Observations The 7 Cups Community of listeners is comprised of over 70,000 individuals from all over the globe. While the majority of listeners hail from
Many changes were implemented after WWII as well as agencies created, such as the United States Air Force. However, even though the Air Force was created after WWII it has not stayed the same, and has grown and evolved with the world. Executive Orders have not updated the DoD regulation with the earliest rendition dated 18 September 1969 which is an Army regulation and not DoD. The most recent update, renumbering and name change is reflected as Army Regulation 380-67, Personnel Security Program dated 7 October 1988.
In this critique, I will examine the mental health multidimensional intake form for clients beginning services at Fairview Counseling Centers in Minneapolis, MN. According to their website, this center encourages clients to have the intake forms completed before their initial intake appointment (2016). There are different forms depending on the client’s age and needs. For this report, I will critique the adult intake form, which is nine pages long.
The purpose of this paper is for me to present a summary of a personal interview had with Heather Smith, a clinical mental health counselor. It will further explore a day to day basis on how working as a clinical mental health counselor, may be. Lastly, it will also reflect my personal reflections about my future as a counselor based on information learned in this course.
Mental health services conducted on the Internet have been described as e-therapy, online counseling, e -mail therapy, Internet-based therapy, and similar terminology. Online therapy services may be provided as an adjunct to more traditional forms of mental health treatment, or may be initiated without any offline contact between the therapist and client. Currently, there are a variety of websites providing links and information regarding online therapy. As I was reading about benefits and risks in using internet as a source for

Not everyone was sorry the class was removed from the curriculum. One student came home and told her mother that Mr. Lopez hated Republicans, that all Republicans are white, and they hate Mexicans. The student’s mother, though a Latina, is a conservative Republican. As a result of the strident nature of the class, it was cancelled.
I thought a lot about this assignment. It was important, to me, that I gathered information that would be applicable for the clients I will serve as a social worker. Here in Flagstaff Arizona, we are fortunate to live in a community which celebrates cultural diversity. Flagstaff is home to a large Latino, Diné and Hopi population. I wanted to critique a mental health assessment that I felt would be culturally sensitive, appropriate and address the needs of these populations. Having said that, I analyzed this intake form in terms of its usability for a variety of different cultures and populations. I also aimed to assess the intake form in relation to sexual orientation and issues around gender identity. The hope being that
Wellness is a vital aspect to the counseling profession. Lawson and Myers (2011) indicate that counselors are more susceptible to mental and emotional disorders than others within the population. Therefore, it is imperative for counselors to understand wellness and build strategies for resilience. Furthermore, wellness is the healthy balance of a person’s mind, body, and spirit. For counselors to be effective within the profession it is important for them to understand the need for wellness (Wolf, Thompson, Thompson, & Smith-Adcock, 2014). An inability to manage both personal and work life can cause burnout and affect the counselor’s wellbeing and the clients they serve (Lee, Cho, Kissinger, & Ogle, 2010). Research depicts that well counselors are more likely to promote wellness, while impaired counselors are likely to harm their clients (Lawson & Myers, 2011). Counselor educators and students are learning the importance of self-care to help maintain mental, physical, and spiritual health. Self-care is the strategy that an individual uses for relief, which include extracurricular activities that are relaxing and fun to that individual. Self-care includes healthy activities that can include sewing, gardening, exercising, and many other
“Life experience is richer than discourse. Narrative structures organize and give meaning to experience, but there are always feelings and lived experience not fully encompassed by the dominant story” (White & Epston, 1990, p. 20). Effective therapy is seen as an enjoyable experience presenting options for dialogue, rather than monologues, about the problem.
Interview paper with a Counselor (Rebecca Alexander), and a Social Worker (Mina McVeigh). This interview is for Mrs. Scott’s online class.
As I was speaking with one of their staff, I disclosed myself to be doing a paper on my visit. The lady gave me a history and the mission of their program. She talked about the fact that their counseling is open to almost everyone; but, mostly women come to their facility. The misconception that their services are only for women is common and since their clients are mostly women, they have facilitated their workshops towards satisfying the needs of their clients. At first, they provided care primarily to women and now they have expanded their service towards men.

Today many people seek professional therapy or counseling for a limited amount of time in order to deal with different life crises. Others seek professional help for the majority of their lives in order to deal with a psychological disorder. After reading this chapter on Therapy, I learned that this was not always the case, and that the way our society views therapy, and the meaning of therapy, has changed dramatically of the years. This chapter not only explains the evolution of therapy, it explores the different therapeutic approaches.
Since at least 1982, the internet has provided a new venue for support group (John Schappi, 2012). Discussing online self-help support groups as the precursor to e-therapy, Martha Ainsworth notes that "the enduring success of these groups has firmly established the potential of computer-mediated communication to enable discussion of sensitive personal issues. For example Email, Usenet and internet bulletin boards have become popular methods of communication for peer-to-peer self-help groups and facilitated support groups. Support groups have long offered companionship and information for people coping with diseases or disabilities, and online situational oriented groups have expanded to offer support for people facing various life circumstances, especially those involving personal and cultural relationships (Van Brunt, 2008).
