Calculus is the branch of mathematics that deals with rates of change and motion. It was developed because of the need to explain various natural occurrences within in the universe, such as the orbits of planets, and the effects of gravity. Today, calculus is the basic segment of science and engineering. Calculus allows physical laws to be expressed in mathematical terms. In science it is valuable in the further analysis of physical laws in predicting the behavior of physical laws, and in discovering new laws.
Calculus breaks into two categories one of those categories is Integral calculus. Integral is a vital form of mathematics. It is used everyday to advance and improve our everyday lives. Besides mathematicians, the use of integral calculus is used in many other disciplines. These disciplines include engineers, statisticians, physicists, and many others. In physics its uses of integral calculus include motion, electricity, heat, light, harmonics, acoustics, astronomy, and dynamics. Integral calculus is used in advanced physics concepts like electromagnetism and Einstein 's theory of relativity. Both which require the use of vast amounts of integral calculus. In chemistry, chemists use integral calculus to predict functions such as reaction rates and radioactive decay. Integral calculus is even used in biology, to formulate rates such as birth and death rates. Pythagoras was the first person to really influence the founding of Calculus. He was an Ionian greek philosopher, mathematician, and has been credited as the founder of the movement called Pythagoreanism. Keep in mind he was born in 570 BC and died in 495 BC, so yeah, he’s kind of old. Most of the information about Pythagoras was written down centuries after he lived, so very little reliable information is known about him. He was born on the island of Samos, and traveled the world, visiting Egypt and Greece, and possibly India, and in 520 BC he returned Samos. Around 530 BC, he moves to Croton, in Magna Graecia, and there he established some kind of school or guild.
I think it is safe to say math has always been a passion of mine. I remember learning to count to 1000 in first grade. When I was finally able to do it without any help, it was like swimming for the first time, eating the ripe tomatoes I grew myself, or putting together a new song on the guitar. The feeling of accomplishment cannot be recreated. As we get older, this feeling becomes more difficult to achieve. This only increases my motivation and determination to learn something new. AP calculus has been a roller coaster of learning. Despite the struggle and rigor, I learned valuable skills that will help me in my future aspirations. Mathematics is a logical and precise subject. Without precision in math everything is imprecise. A modest inaccuracy can produce a catastrophe. For example, if a doctor fails to calculate the correct amount of medicine to give a patient, it could result in a serious complication, such as death. A further example is the logic and precision it takes to construct a building. If there is one minor miscalculation the whole building could collapse, causing mass destruction.

That is, of course, until you hit calculus, when everything becomes instantaneous. In calculus, you derive equations to find how things are changing in the now; no need to focus on anything that came before or after. A tendency toward instantaneous moments occurred multiple times junior year.
I have been placed into Accelerated Intro to Calc, but after looking at the course catalog, I would feel much more comfortable taking Honors Intro to Calc this year. This is because I have never taken a formal Precalculus class (although I did learn it casually by myself), and the course description of the Accelerated course included topics that I have never heard before.

I won’t accept failure. 2% was how close I was from failing AP Calculus. Calculus class was the only class where I squandered time because I stopped caring. I was willing to accept a D because that was the easiest option. In the end I did not want to accept that because I had something to prove for myself. If I start giving up for a class then that could have an effect on other things that I deem “difficult.”

In 2011-2012, I began teaching AP Calculus AB; a course offered since 1995. In that time, enrollment has increased by 33% in spite of three additional AP mathematics classes being added to the curriculum. This year for the first time in school history, there are two AP Calculus AB classes with a total of 41 students. Also, the number of qualifying exam scores increased by 1300%. In 2012, my first year of teaching AP Calculus, I only had five students take the exam with only one student making a qualifying score. In 2014, for the first time in school history, a student scored a 5 on the AP Calculus exam; three students achieved this. In 2016, I increased the number of students taking the exam to twenty-one with fourteen students making a qualifying score.
