California is facing a severe crisis that is affecting the entire state. This situation affects businesses, farmers, and many households across the state of California. The crisis we are talking about is the drought that is taking a toll on the state. This drought started in 2011 and has not stopped since. This can be observed as the second worse drought in recorded history thus far. The present drought is alarming to residents in California especially those in the agriculture sphere of the world’s seventh largest economy. At the current state, the water system has been overwhelmed throughout the state by the change in climate, increased industrial agriculture and water-rich consumption that has had nearly no restrictions until recently. Throughout this period of the drought we can see plenty of examples of how it is affecting the entire state. One example of this was the alarming amount of snow that the Sierra Mountains got in the beginning of 2014. An article from NBC Los Angeles states that the Department of Water Resources in the Sierra reported that the amount of the snowpack was only at twelve percent of the yearly average for the surrounding area. The state of California depends on a huge amount of snow to fall because when the snow melts it goes into rivers and reservoirs.
