The Carolina Panthers had to come out of the locker room after the first half needing to get something going if they were going to come back and beat the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 50. The first half was dominated by the defense. Whose defense would be able to hold out for the rest of the game would determine who would win the Super Bowl.
Denver Broncos defense king in Super Bowl 50
The first play was a run, which again, like in the first half, Denver shut down. However, the next play Cam Newton hit Ted Ginn for 45 yards. Ginn began to be Newton’s go to player. However, While the pass started to work for Carolina, it was not enough to get them a touchdown and the Panthers attempted a 44 yard field goal. However Graham Gano, the Panthers’

On a first down pass, a penalty on the Panthers gave Denver an additional 15 yards. However, Manning’s arm was hit on the next play as he attempted a pass and Carolina recovered the ball on the 50 yard line. The Panther offense could not capitalize on the turnover and were forced to settle for a 39 yard field goal by Gano. This time it was good, and it inched the Panthers closer to Denver, but they still trailed the Broncos 16-10.
As time ticked away in the fourth quarter, the Denver Broncos started working on running the clock down. They ran the ball as much as they could then would punt the ball down the field and count on the Broncos defense to keep Cam Newton from getting the Panther offense going. And it worked. Von Miller, who was so big for Denver’s defense in the first half, caused Newton to fumble and the Broncos recovered the ball on the four yard line.
After a defensive hold call against Carolina, Denver’s C.J. Anderson fought his way into the end zone for Denver’s first offensive touchdown of the game. This gave Denver a 24-10 lead after a successful two-point conversion. That made things tough for Carolina, with just over three minutes left and trailing by 14 points, Cam Newton had a big, almost impossible task in front of
To begin the game, the Eagles received the ball first and it was a perfect opening drive for Wentz and the offense. On the first drive, Wentz went 4-for-5, finding tight end Zach Ertz for a ridiculous one-handed 14-yard catch on first down and ending it with a 19-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jordan Matthews.
During the annual Ely Tigers v. Dilard Panthers football game, the game was decided at the end of the 4th quarter during a touchdown scoring catch. The wide receiver, Donnell Wilson, caught the ball in the end zone to score. It was a clean catch in the right place at the right time that resulted in the game-winning touchdown.
On second-and-goal, Patriots safety Patrick Chung was flagged for holding Demaryius Thomas on a play where Osweiler was sacked for a huge loss. If that flag wasn't thrown, the Broncos were looking at 3rd and goal from the 19-yard line. Just like that the game could have been over. Instead, due to the penalty it was first-and-goal on the 4-yard line.
On second and goal, they tried hitting their running back in the flats on the right side of the field. Closing in with great pursuit, Dawson made an excellent open field tackle and forced a loss of one yard.
In Carolina’s two games this postseason, the Panthers have jumped out to huge leads. Leading 31-0 against the Seattle Seahawks in the Divisional Round and 24-7 against the Arizona Cardinals in the NFC Championship Game at halftime of both games, the Panthers have become accustomed to front-running. Carolina has been a front-running team all year, scoring early and often en route to a league-high 15 wins. If the Panthers can get out to a big early lead against the Broncos, Denver’s offense doesn’t seem equipped to make a big comeback. Carolina quarterback Cam Newton, who was named NFL MVP Saturday night, was the runaway front-runner to win the award after a stellar regular season.
“I wouldn't be surprised if [the Panthers] ran away with it,” Smith said. “But the Denver Broncos do have a solid defense and it's going to be interesting to see what kind of game plan and how effective they will
The Carolina Panthers were overwhelmed by the Denver Broncos during the Super Bowl 50 game, the ending score being 24-10. And while this super bowl was supposedly Peyton Manning’s last game of his career, the biggest topic of discussion seemed to be focused on Panther’s quarterback, Cam Newton.
The Eagles offense was back to work with 1:42 left and a 17-yard run from Greer, moved the chains and brought the big Grove City crowd to their feet. Then it was another Callahan pass to Lutz, that picked up 23-yards, with 1:22 showing on the scoreboard clock. The 6-play 67-yards drive ended with :59 seconds left in the half, when Adams coasted in from 3-yards out. The point after gave us a35-0 Grove City lead.
During the first quarter of the game, things went by relatively slow. Both teams remained scoreless, while Tom Brady (Patriots quarterback), and Peyton Manning (Broncos quarterback) struggled to find their way into the end zone. Of course, as the game progressed, both quarterbacks were able to warm up, and Peyton Manning was finally able to find Owen Daniels (Broncos wide receiver) for a 21- yard reception to score the first
The biggest play of the night for the Texans was a late, fourth-quarter touchdown which tied the game, 23-23.
But this time they failed to score because Washington safety Alvin Walton sacked Elway for an 18-yard loss on third down, pushing the Broncos out of field goal range. This play would turn out to be the turning point in the
Three minutes later, Brady again led his team down the field scoring a touchdown and then converting the 2-point conversion, 28-20 Falcons. The Falcons responded with a great drive thanks to Julio Jones making what could be the catch of the year. However they were forced to punt due to a sack and penalties. The Patriots converted one first down until the play of the game took place. On 1st and 10 Tom Brady throws a ball in the middle of the field that gets tip by a defender. Julian Edelman sees the ball in the air, surrounded by three defenders, he extends his body and just gets his hands under the ball. The Patriots then went on to score and convert the 2-point conversion tying the game, 28-28. Then go into overtime, win the coin toss, drive
Still, the Eagles were in prime position to steal one in MetLife Stadium, but they failed to execute on their final drive of the game. Wentz’s accuracy was a big factor on the final drive, starting with an attempted screen pass to veteran Darren Sproles on 3rd and 10 from the Giants’ 17-yard line, which resulted in a tipped ball and incompletion.
Dallas managed to cut the margin in half in the 2nd quarter, sending the Mavericks into the locker room down a proverbial NFL touchdown. The teams would trade baskets most of the 3rd period in what was a remarkably intense defensive quarter of basketball. Dallas won the quarter by a single point to leave the teams separated by 3 field goals to begin the final stanza.
With that being said, Carolina have not came up against a proper immoveable object that truly compares to that of the Denver defense. The best comparisons may exist in the defensive stands of the Houston Texans and the Seattle Seahawks when – although Carolina still won - Cam was unable to get his offense moving at full
