Black History Month
Black History Month makes us learn a lot about African American history right? Well, unfortunately you are wrong. Many influential people go unrecognized such as Robert Smalls because we cannot fit him like many others in the short month of February. Myself like many other Americans of all races and ethnicities believe that Black history month is an ineffective way to learn about all of the accomplishments of African Americans. We give the children and future of our country only a month to learn about all of these accomplishments. What is even worse is we do not even tell the whole story. What is taught is a very compressed version of the whole true story. What simply makes no

Also, Smalls was a politician where he helped South Carolina get the first free and state law required public school system in America. I guarantee many people will have never even heard of him, though , because we spend all of our time learning and about people such as Martin Luther King Jr. Now do not misunderstand me, Martin was easily one of the most influential if not the most influential African American of all time. However, I do not find it fair to someone such as Mr. Smalls who did very important and courageous tasks to go unnoticed.
Also, people who oppose Black history month may be on the side where they believe that Black history month does not help end racial discrimination but rather further supports racial discrimination. People such as Morgan Freeman call the month "ridiculous" (Goffe), Morgan being an African American himself also stated other phrases like ," You are going to regulate my history into a month," "Which month is white history month," and "I don 't want a black history month. Black history is American history" (Goffe). However, Morgan is not the only one who feels this way. Many other Americans , and also African Americans agree with Freeman. If you give white history eleven months of the year to go through and learn about; how can you only give black history one month. Black history month is a month that makes it seem blacks are almost lesser because of their skin color once again. If people
His strong opinions are many of the reasons African Americans are well respected today. Because of his efforts, segregation among the United States has decreased. Schools educate both black and white children, and the black folk has many political, economic, and social leaders across the country that are well respected.
It is very vital to have Black historians, because history is told from the White perspective, to be completely honest. Take, African American historian, Asa Hillard for example. He created 12 Master Keys regarding Kemet and Ancient African history. When Black historians research Black history, they find that our history was stolen from us! Being that the Kemetic people were so advanced, it was hard to believe that people of color had such an impact on the world. Reason why, the Greek take all the credit for all of African history. We are taught throughout school of the amazing accomplishments made by the White man, but when discussing Black people in history, all we are known for is being
Ethnic and Racial Minorities have played a huge role if not the biggest role in developing America and making our nation what it is today. Almost 50% of the United States population is made of these minorities. Within that minority group there is over 10 different racial differences. We fought wars over these differences and the government had to pass laws because of the racial and ethnic minorities. From the civil war, to the Civil Rights Movement, to us having our first African American President ever currently in office. We have come along way since the beginning. African Americans, not only them but many other groups as well know their self worth and know how much their life is worth and are not willing to give up. The Civil Rights Act was passed in 1964 which made discrimination against someone based on their sex, religion, or race illegal. The end of slavery in 1863 which changed the lives of millions. Native Americans being accepted and actually helping during WWII with secret coding. Many groups may not seem important but are just as important to the United States as every other race. They have shaped America into the nation it is today.
No, black history month should be practice in every middle/high school just as U.S. history. It does not make since for black history month to be racist. Black history month being racist is far beyond the point.
As an African American I have so many holidays I celebrate such as black history month, Martin Luther King jr. Day, and more. Every part of our African American history is very special to me and I celebrate these holidays with so much pride. Even though I have not experienced the things Rosa Parks or Martin Luther King jr. have experienced I still feel like it's meant to have an impact on me. I believe African American history is all about believing in yourself no matter your skin color, gender, or even age. I've met so many children and adults who does not know that they can do anything if they put their mind to it. They tend to say "I can't because I'm not the right come or I am only a female," but I believe those things that are said are only in their head. That is why I would love create an organization to help children and adults believe they can do anything they just need a positive mind to do.
Isolating black history to just a month is actually rasict. It’s showing that America doesn’t think black history is important, because it shows America’s flaws. If it wasn’t for the antiquity of African Americans, America wouldn’t be the way it is now. The regular American History shows that white people are strong and it makes it seem
Wallace asked Freeman Wallace asked “Black history month you find…” Morgan freeman replied” Ridiculous which mouth is white history mouth? Black history is American history” How are we going to get rid of racism”? Quickly Freeman responded “Stop talking about it! I'm going to stop calling you a white man, and I'm going to ask you to stop calling me a black man. Black history is American history” as has been mentioned, Morgan freeman said black history month is American history if it's not then what is it? Speaking about black history Are blacks American? If so how come its black history month consequently, this is where separation begins if there's a good there is evil same with color if there's a black there is a white and everything in between If what they say is true, “Black lives matter”, but not to mention there's a 90% chance of being killed by another black person? The black community can name the last 5 black men that got shot and killed by police but cannot name the last victim of a black on black crime under those circumstances, black victims are only important if they are killed by police . The BLM became a hate group when they went against any one that do not agree with them and only supported one race “blacks” that is exactly what the KKK or Ku Klux Klan used to do. There is one conclusion instead of Black lives matter , White lives matter or even Spanish lives matter there is
At the beginning of the Civil War the reasoning was nothing but clear. It can’t be ignored that the Civil War was in fact about slavery and that slavery was an issue “resolved” by the Civil War. Yes the war was initially about race and how the country “needed” to free slaves, David W. Blight states it, “The emancipationist vision, embodied in African Americans’ complex remembrance of their own freedom, their politics of radical Reconstruction, and in conceptions of the war as the reinvention of the republic and the liberation of blacks to citizenship and Constitutional equality” (Blight, 2). The writer of this book, Race and Reunion, saw that the war
Well I find it ironic that I have chosen the topic of Civil Rights, and the fact that Black History month started today. The topic of civil rights hits very close to home, and I mean that literally. Growing up in the suburbs of Atlanta Georgia, I became especially acquainted with the topic of civil rights and equality. It was taught it frequently when I was in elementary school, and it carried on that way, until my graduation from high school. This being my topic, I wanted to write on a few important civil rights activist (Rosa Parks, Dr. Martin Luther King),and the role they still play in society.
Discrimination has been a major conflict throughout history and have impacted our society nowadays. People do discriminate against each other, whether by actions, hurtful words, and many ways, and so we needed someone to stand up for our rights. Countless African Americans have changed our society for the best but here is one that I really admired, and his name is Medgar Evers.
First, we have famous people in our history. If James Meredith had not enrolled in the college Ole Miss, we as African Americans probably wouldn’t have the opportunity to gain knowledge and learn. Think that if it was not for Governor Ross Barrette; James Meredith probably wouldn’t have had a chance to enroll in Ole Miss College. Without Martin Luther King Jr. who else would
I notice how everyone feels as if they deserve some type of apology for how their people are or were being treated. As I am writing this, the first thing that emanates is slavery, in school I tend to sigh or groan when “black history month” rolls around because the whole time I’m thinking, “so, what, because black people were slaves they deserve a month dedicated to them?” or “what about the Native Americans whose lands were stolen from them, whose people were killed and discriminated against? did they not suffer enough to deserve a month as well?” One would think this is just a form of gratitude to pay respect to certain African- Americans, but speaking for myself, I find it so unnecessary and vacuous. Slavery happened and is still happening! Big whoop, it’s not like this holiday is going to bring anyone back from the dead. And taking 28-29 days out of the student curriculum to watch silly videos about how blacks were treated is a waste of time to me. Racism is becoming a social stigma, from little kids I hear “that’s racist”, it’s disappointing to see our future generation confuse acknowledgement of someone’s race/ethnicity/nationality with discrimination. Surely this will continue because we’re so caught up in teaching kids to be respectful of one another and to keep hands and feet to themselves that we’re continuously walking in a circle in search for an object that’s
instead of having black history one month, why can't every month have black history in it?
For this reason, Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, and Malcolm X all stood up for what they believed in for the hope that there would be equality one day. Although relentless and sinister hate groups tried to stop them, their restless efforts made an immeasurable impact on the conflict of inequality. Without dedication, determination, courage, and patience, they would not have made the difference they wanted in the world. While their movements caused Americans to rethink the phrase “equal”, various diabolical Americans continued to ignore the problem. Two of these courageous role models ended up assassinated since they stood up for what they believed in and their impact was not significant at first, but now we dedicate a month of recognition to them. Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, and Malcolm X have eternally earned remembrance for all they did to force a colossal difference of equality in
