I chose to interview the SPCA of Wake County (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Wake County). The SPCA was founded in 1971, to take animals from high kill shelters. But they did not run as an effective shelter during this time. In 2003 they opened their adoption center, which is known for having a much better quality of care than most shelters, and the animals are housed very uniquely, with open rooms instead of cages for the cats and dogs. The mission of the SPCA is “To protect, shelter and promote the adoption of homeless animals; to provide education about responsible pet ownership and to reduce pet overpopulation through spay/neuter programs.” The SPCA offers adoption programs, volunteering, affordable food, vet care;

Our group interviewed Dr. Aissa Nicole Villarreal, Pharm.D., R.Ph, a pharmacist employed at Sam’s Club in McAllen, Texas. Although the pharmacy that she is employed at does not offer Point-of-Care Testing, we were able to gather insight as to what the service would offer and why it should be implemented in Sam’s Club pharmacies within the South Texas area. Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) is a medical diagnostic test that is conducted outside of a traditional lab. It is designed to provide more convenient diagnostic results for the patient in terms of location and time. It can be used to test for multiple conditions such as strep throat and influenza. Different methods of administering the tests include throat and nasal swab.

Overall, this interview was an excellent experience for me. I was appreciative of the time that the counselor gave me, especially after what she called a long day. I believe that she provided me with excellent information on group counseling in general, not just as a substance abuse counselor. I believe that this can also translate to school counseling, as I am more informed of what being an effective counselor to groups entails. I also have more information on how to counsel those who are dealing with substance abuse issues, whether it is within their family or friends, or if the students are dealing with it themselves. As found out when we spoke about her experiences, she has been in the role of both individual and group substance abuse counseling for a while now, so the information she provided me comes with years of experience of growing as an effective counselor. The information she provided me regarding how she still enjoys her role despite the challenges that arise gives me even more assurance that I will enjoy making a positive impact on others while embracing the challenges that come inevitably come up. I am now more convinced that eventually joining organizations such as the ASCA will help me stay effective as a counselor, so I will eventually join the organization.
This case study of an interview of an adult over the age of 65 was done for an assignment for FSHD 413. The interview took place on March 31 at 11:00 am and lasted until around 11:45 am. The interview took place on the couch at the interviewee’s house. This location was chosen to ensure that the interviewee was comfortable and in a familiar environment. The interviewee was given the questions ahead of time so he was able to read them over and ahead of time and make notes, as well as read along as the questions were being asked. The responses were recorded through an audio recording as well as detailed notes taken by the interviewer. The interviewee was very comfortable answering the questions that he was asked, and it helped him to be able to read along as the questions were being asked.
The entrepreneur that I interviewed was Lydia Patterson. In 1989, Lydia and her husband, Lou, decided to start planning to open up a new Italian restaurant in Virginia. The restaurant industry, especially in the Washington DC area is very competitive. It is highly competitive with respect to price, value and promotions, service, location, and food quality. There are a substantial number of restaurant operations that compete for customer traffic, some of which have significantly greater resources to aggressively market to consumers, which could result in losing market share. Consumers are highly focused on value and if other restaurants are able to promote and deliver a higher degree of value, guest traffic levels
