One reason that the caste system may exist, is how Hindu religion has influenced Indian culture and life. Religion may influence how the Indian society functions with the caste system being based off the Hindu religion. In modern Indian cities, caste is generally not as important as it is to those in rural villages. Possibly, caste may be much more important to villages than cities due to the purpose caste serves villages.

Since the caste system is thousands of years old, it seems it was possibly developed out of necessity in the past. Everyone, no matter their caste, has a role to fulfill in order for everyone in their village to survive, and function. In America, the rank of social classes from top to bottom would be the upper class, the middle class, the working class, and the lower class. While in America, people have different social classes, people of different classes usually will interact and not consider social class that important. Just like the upper class, the middle class can be broken into the upper middle class, and the lower middle class. People in the upper middle category are professional people with high incomes(less than upper), doctors, and lawyers. People in the lower middle class usually have made investments, or own business which gives them their income. Much focus is on the middle class in American news, and politics. It is hard for Americans to stay in the middle class, and harder for those wanting to move into it. Increasingly, large sums of Americans are not able to afford basic needs.
