The main characters in the story are Katniss, Peeta, Haymitch, President Snow, Gale, Katniss's mom and sister. Katniss is the girl who was volunteered to take her sisters place in the Hunger Games 12 months ago and. Peeta is the guy who was reaped to participate in the Hunger Games with Her. Haymitch is a crazy, drunk guy, who was chosen to be there supervisor and mentor for the Games. President Snow is the President of all the Districts and takes a big part in hosting the Games. Gale works in the mines and used to go hunting with Katniss on a regular basis. Katniss's mom and sister are the ones that live with her and take care of her, even when she returns from the

Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins published in 2008 stars Katniss Everdeen, Peeta Mellark, Haymitch, Effie Trinket, and lastly the cold President Snow is a book that takes place in the future in Panem(North America). The basic plot is that 12 districts are kept in famine and total distress by the Capitol’s leader President Snow. Every year they are forced to send 2 tributes from each district one boy and one girl in a winner takes all death match to keep the districts feel inferior to the capital.

I chose to the modern mythology known as The Hunger Games a novel written by Suzanne Collins and later adapted into a feature film. The novel was actually part of a trilogy The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay. The story begins by introducing you to our main character Katniss Everdeen who lives in a world run by the Capitol where President Snow resides and has enforced a form of martial law on all 13 districts. Every year the Capitol hosts their annual Hunger Games which is a form of entertainment for the Capitol. Out of every district two tributes, one boy and one girl will be picked to participate in the Hunger Games which is a battle to the death. Whichever tribute manages to survive till the end will be rewarded by getting to stay in the capitol and their district will be given more food and supplies. The reason Katniss becomes a part of the games is because her little sister prim is chosen during the reaping to be the tribute so Katniss hearing her sisters name volunteers as tribute to save her sisters life but she tries to win the games for her district and to provide for them. The only problem is she finds it hard to murder the other tributes because they are all so young and she doesn’t see why she must kill them for the Capitols entertainment.

This make Katniss extremely confused, causing her to be uncertain of whether or not she will be able to kill Peeta since he is her supposed star-crossed lover. She also debates with herself because she cannot decide if she is in love with Gale or Peeta. During the Hunger Games, Katniss becomes friends with Rue through the mocking jay pin. Rue is killed, but Katniss remembers her by using the wisdom that she learned from Rue.

The reason I choose this book for my book report is because Katniss is not your typical 16 year old girl. Not only is she her family’s provider but she’s also skillful, strong, rebellious, and unsentimental heroine. These are characteristics that society would mostly link to a 16 year old boy rather than a girl.

Instead of fighting to the death, Peta and Katniss decide to fake a romantic relationship between each other to manipulate the game and Capitol politicians to become joint winner of THE HUNGER GAMES.

Katniss and District 12’s boy tribute, Peeta, are shipped off to train for the games for a few weeks in order to learn more about how the game is played and how the Capitol actually has a huge hand on who wins depending on their likeability. People who live in the Capitol actually send survival gifts in the games, which is the key to winning.
