Effects of Human Trafficking
Wanting to start her own sewing business to support her family, Molina was then offered a job in the United States if she left her family to come over. She was forced into working 18 hour days. The other workers were allowed to leave after their shifts. Molina was told not to talk to anyone. She said she was always hungry. Her trafficker used manipulation to keep her as his victim. The U.S State Department says there are 600,000 to 800,000 victims who are trafficked over international borders per year. Human trafficking is a huge problem worldwide. It happens everywhere. Most people don’t realize how easily it happens, and how common it actually is. Human trafficking is a growing problem all over the world, it is a form of modern day slavery, victims are getting targeted, and the victims are affected tremendously.
Modern Day Slavery On Slavery Today they state, “There are an estimated 20.9 Million people trapped in some form of slavery today.” Human trafficking is known as modern day slavery. There are many different types of slavery that people are pulled into. Forced labor, child labor, forced marriage, and sex trafficking are just a few of the more common types of slavery today. Most people have a certain picture in their head of what slavery is. Forced labor is usually what people think of when they think of slavery. Labor trafficking is forced. The victim has no choice in whether or not they want to do the labor. It happens in many
Human trafficking is the exploitation of humans to make money. There are more slaves today than ever in history. Most times victims are trafficked by people they know, trust and love like friends and family.
Human trafficking was once called slavery. “Slavery began in Ancient Greece when they captured prisoners of war. They traded these slaves with other people to be used as laborers, including domestic work to build the pyramids. Slavery continued to grow all throughout Asian civilizations and into the birth of America.” (Gale) The slave trading began when the Europeans began establishing colonies with the Americans. Experts say that three hundred thousand slaves were sold to plantation owners in the 1400s and the 1500s. American colonies traded molasses and weapons for these slaves. Our textbooks tell us that slavery existed but it doesn’t always go into depth of what really happens. Everybody knows that slavery is bad. The word slavery itself, seems very unnatural and provokes mixed feelings depending on a person’s heart. Nobody really
Human Trafficking and Slavery universally happens in the world when individuals are placed or maintained in and exploitive situation for economic gain. Women, men and children are trafficked for a range of different purposes; forced and exploitative labour in factories, farms and private households, sexual exploitation, and forced marriage. Trafficking can happen to all people if the circumstances are right.
Although many people think slavery is just being forced to work physically, there are a wide variety of slavery. One type of slavery is human trafficking, a term with slaves that are smuggled across the borders from country to country to
Hook: There is modern day slavery in the United States, which is known as Human Trafficking. The most common form of human trafficking is prostitution. Mostly young girls and women. Then there are the agricultural workers, domestic workers, childcare providers, construction workers, day laborers and restaurant workers that have been transported to our country or are already living in the United States. Many of these people that have passports or any other type of identity have them taken away from them so they cannot prove their identity to authorities.
Imagine being taken from the comfort of your house and family. Then envision that you are forced to either inject or ingest as drugs to give sexual pleasure to one person while the other reaps financial benefits. You are experiencing such atrocity at the same moment in which your loved ones are mourn your loss. Eventually, you are unrecognizable and affected by traumatizing experiences. The effects that you frequently feel are numb and now you are suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder. This is the reality that many endure on daily basis. It is caused by the constant practice of human trafficking.
Back in the 1600’s slavery was brought to the United States to help aid in the production of crops. We have come a long ways since then through our government system to help provide a more riotous and free system, the land of the free. Slavery ended and racism has declined but today there still exists a different type of slavery and this is known as human trafficking. Many call sex or human trafficking the modern day type of slavery because people are forced to work for another person mostly by selling their body. According to the United Nations and their protocol signed by more then 80 countries sex/ human trafficking is the “recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring or receipt of persons, by means of the threat or use
Regardless of “the growing recognition that human trafficking is an important national and global issue, little empirical research containing primary data has been published.” However, there are many that are passionate about this horrific matter and are determined to make a difference. For instance, the Fraser Health Authority is establishing a way that will help health workers identify signs of human trafficking. Their new program is called ‘Help, Don’t Hinder’ and helps workers identify signs of abuse in victims, specific injuries, certain living situations, “long work hours, and a lack of money, documents or permanent homes.” Many times the victim is unable to ask for help. A victim may look like an average everyday worker, customer, or person passing by on the street. This is why the most beneficial thing that one can do to help is to recognize the signs of human trafficking and know how to help. Not only this, but have the bravery to reach out to someone and give them the aid and support that they need. This program is expected to raise awareness over the next three years and increase research as well as legislative responses. All social workers throughout America should follow this example to help raise their awareness so they know when they see this issue happening around them, and help raise awareness in
Human trafficking is classified as modern slavery because of the method in which people are recruited (coerced, kidnapped, sold, etc.) and transported to work in deplorable conditions where their basic human rights are violated (Gould, 2012). “Human trafficking involves the recruitment, transportation, harbouring and/ or exercising control, direction or influence over the movements of a person in order to exploit that person, typically through sexual exploitation or forced labour” (Department of Justice, 2015). Human trafficking
Human trafficking can take many forms, as well as many victims. One form of trafficking is slavery. Slavery is having a worker who is unpaid and who works by force using coercion, fraud or threat of bodily harm. “According to the United Nations, there are between 27 and 30 million modern-day slaves in the world (Jesionka, “Human Trafficking: The Myths and the Realities”).” “By 1860, the nation’s black population had jumped from 400,000 to 4.4 million, of which 3.9 million were slaves.(Henry Louis Gates).” That means there are nearly ten times more slaves today than there were in the late 1800’s.
Labor trafficking is modern day slavery. Unfortunately, we don’t hear about it often because it’s hard to explain and prosecute since there are so many forms.
The effect human trafficking has on world today. Human trafficking is victims have been the most disrespect and terrified people in the world. They are sold to slavery either for sex or labor services. The sad part about human trafficking happens right under our noises. I think in some cases of the Unite States some of larger companies that are outsourcing human trafficking in order to keep their business standards by keeping customers happy. Most underage girls from ages 12-18 are used for human trafficking. Some of those girls are runways, or drug addictive and kidnapping from their parent. Human trafficking is the most profitable slavery around the world. Most of majority of human trafficking victims are very vulnerable such as, selling of small children, young underage women and sometimes elderly adults. I really think if someone who condemns this kind of brutal act toward anyone should be sent straight to electric chamber to die. Human trafficking victims has been caught and sold to higher bid for sex or slavery. Human trafficking most target the poor, and disaster area was people lives.in June of 2014, there a new law called JCMST in which it were stated bring down the danger of human trafficking of any kind .also, human trafficking has become a way for child mobilization , and teenage marriage is forced through

These victims are used for a number of different purposing including, but not limited to prostitution, pornography,
A lack of strong labor protections is just some of the vulnerabilities that can lead to labor trafficking. In addition, victims of labor trafficking are affected by this due to different reasons like perhaps being promised a higher paying job or new and exciting opportunities. Labor trafficking includes but are not limited to: people forced to working in homes as domestic servants, farmworkers coerced through violence as they harvest crops, or factory workers held in inhumane conditions. Additionally, in construction work, health and beauty services, door-to-door sales crew, and carnivals. Although the current information being presented is discussing only about what occurs in America, globally there are 14.2 million people trapped in forced labor in industries including agriculture, construction, domestic work, and manufacturing, according to the International Labor
